Years of high processed carbs, sugar, cookies, candy, donuts, soda and eating all the time got me into this mess, so it makes sense that cutting refined carbs, sugar, time restricted eating will get me out of it.

Good work Dr. Gerber. Your like two steps ahead of everyone else. Most doctors aren't even testing A1C or even doing a fingerstick when people come in because they are so preoccupied with stupid cholesterol.

Dr. Great talk. I am going to be presenting at Adapt in Long Beach mar 7 2020. I was a triathlete who had a heart attack after a race. I determined eating lots of fruit was a main contributor and have fully recovered with a Keto diet.

In this day and age, with all that we now seem to know, why is insulin levels or even HbA1c monitoring not standard in health care? How can we change this? We could intervene so much sooner and significantly better people’s lives.

My young Doctor did a HBA1C & said that I was NOT a T2 Diabetic because my blood sugar was within range,... I asked for a fasting blood Insulin test & she aske why when she knew that I wasn't diabetic.
I asked her, "what if my body makes high amounts of Insulin to produce that normal sugar level" ;)
She agreed to the test which showed my blood insulin level was 4 time what it should be,... I ordered Dr. Kraft's book & sent it to my Doctor :)

There are a lot of Peters commenting here for some reason :) I found this to very informative - thank you. I wonder why there isn't more of an uproar to get the health insurance companies to pay for the heart calcium test. I suspect that is one of the main reasons that doctors do not order them. The Framingham factors remind me of the outdated food pyramid which is based on bad science.

Good talk. I recently heard someone say that because there is no drug that lowers insulin, the medical establishment isn't to interested in measuring hyperinsulinemia because there's no money to be made in its treatment anyhow. As you say treatment would be diet based.

Hi Peter ... yes, the chemical industry is driven by "Patentable Formulas", nutrition is not patentable ... and hence PhD's in Medicine are not trained in nutrition, just how the Chemical drugs work. Highly influenced by Doctors of Science ... unfortunately much of those Dr.'s use the science to ignore metabolic processes ... simply they have no training in nutrition either.
This started 100 years ago with Rockefeller .... when he got control of the chemical industry ... got doctors licensed to prescribe drugs ... closed Health Sanatoriums ... and so on ... google this or youtube it ... interesting history lesson.

nsulin resistance is the main cause of coronary heart disease. Why aren't the drug companies developing a drug which will block amylase or sucrase, the enzymes which break down polysaccharides and sugar, respectively. If you block these two enzymes you will drastically reduce the absorption of glucose and fructose and people can continue enjoying sweet drinks and pastries.

A bit unusual, my CAC 956, very fit, thin, all blood work very good, remnant Cholesterol 11, 73yo, no family history, calcium buildup is in media and outer wall and along the artery, not globular. One cardiologist says "on statins for life, you have heart disease", another says ''very unusual (1/300 patients) but no problem, no statins." Thoughts?

Diets rich in carbohydrates and polyunsaturated fats are linked atherogenic plaque accumulation. Low Carb healthy fat diets have been used to try and help stabilize and in some cases reverse CAC scores. Don't take my word for it though, look into the research.

Is there anything else that I can do? Can you lower a score? If I can get this score to stabilize it that good enough?

Cholesterol is in your entire circulatory system. Why is there clogging of the ARTERIES close to the heart and not in the veins or capillaries in your nose, ear or knee?
This is because the pumping of the heart can cause hairline cracks. Blood pressure is highest in this area. These hairline cracks are repaired by a sticky substance LP(a), to prevent from getting worse.
Why don't animals have cardiovascular disease?
Almost all animals produce large amounts of vitamin C in their liver.
On average 35 mg/kg body weight. So we have to take at least about 3000 mg of vitamin C ourselves because humans cannot make vitamin C. You get strong collagen tissue, strong connective tissue, strong arteries. Hairline cracks no longer form and arterial plaque is removed and burned in the liver.
Repair with cholesterol is therefore a consequence of a deficiency of vitamin C.
So do not take statins, but vitamin C in a high dose: at least 3 grams, better: 6 to 10 grams

This lecture is such bad advice. Insulin resistance is the cause of hyperinsulinemia. What causes insulin resistance. Excess fat in our cells, makes the body resistant to insulin, causing the body to generate more insulin. How do we reduce insulin resistance. Lose weight. Eat with a calorie deficit, exercise. Eating Fat may reduce blood insulin, but it does no benefit for reducing the fat in our cells. Eating excess carbohydrates, also results in the body generating more insulin to store the excess carbs as fat. So the real answer to preventing diabetes is to reduce 1. High Glycemic index foods such as ALL Processed foods, including sugar, 2. Eliminate Excess consumption of whole foods based carbs - eat only what you need, or a bit less, than you need, and 3. Reduce Fats, cos Fats consumed = extra fats in our cells.
Clearly while High Fat may seem to circumvent the High Insulin and High Blood Sugar issue, it does nothing to deal with the root cause of Metabolic Syndrome which are things like inflammation, Too much fat in our cells - aka insulin resistance, Obesity - which is a visible symptom of too much fat stored. The only diet that deals with both Diabetes and Heart Disease equally is a Moderate Carb, Low Fat(very low in all kinds of fats from either animal or plant sources), Plant based diet, with lots of vegetables and fruits, Low Protein (ideally mostly from Plant Based sources) which produces the following key results.
    1. Lose weight, cos your are more likely to be calorie deficient and lose weight in a long term sustainable manner, from a plant based diet where fat and oils and animal proteins - the most calorie dense ingredients in our meals, are kept to the minimum.
    2. Lose more of all kinds of stored fats in the body. Reducing insulin resistance, which reduces the amount of insulin the body needs to generate, and preventing/reversing diabetes and pre-diabetes. The only diets proven to reverse diabetes - The only diets that have been shown to do this (reverse diabetes) are plant based, with lots of vegetables, not fats !!!! That alone should tell us something....!!!
    3. A plant based diet rich in fruits and vegetables is the one assured to reduce inflammation, cos its rich in antioxidants. There are no antioxidants in high fat diets. None.
    4. Also reduce cholesterol, in the body, which is generated from either fat consumed, cholesterol consumed, or excess carbs which have been turned into fat, Cholesterol may not be the direct cause of Heart Disease, but is clearly associated with heart disease, and arteriosclerosis, and high blood pressure, and there is no advantage of a High fat diet which clearly always raises cholesterol. Best to err on the side of a low cholesterol.
About time I stopped listening to these biased speeches which conclude with - well more research is needed, I do not need a speech to waste my time for such unresolving conclusions. Reminds me of the documentaries with sensational titles about UFO's and Bigfoot, or the Yeti - speculation, about nothing. Tingling to the ears, but such an anticlimax when the speaker raises far more questions and does not conclusively answer any of them. cos More studies are required - Kinda baseless - anyone could have told me that !!

Your points are all in line with what the medical and nutritional establishment have been preaching for 50 years. Yet obesity and diabetes is worse than ever. We have reduced fat intake and saturated fats, but are getting sicker. We are reducing meat consumption, but getting sicker. This experiment has failed.
Sure, hyper insulinemia can happen first but usually it is a response to high carb consumption. Insulin is produced in higher and higher amounts to compensate. These high amounts cause insulin resistance.
Plants have anti-nutrients and have much lower bioavailability of several critical nutrients.
Finally, if you don’t want to watch these videos, no one is forcing you. But others find them literally life-saving.

    • @maryeverett2266
      @maryeverett2266 ปีที่แล้ว

@@choreomaniac The medical and nutritional establishment have been saying that for 50 years, and it's a shame that no one listened. There was never a time when saturated fat or meat intake was reduced in the general population, but when studying sample sizes of people from the hundreds to the thousands by reducing their saturated fat intake, the results point to clear results in lowering risk of cardiovascular risk. Plants containing anti-nutrients is a good basis to make a theory that they must be harmful, but a theory needs to be tested to be true. When tested, plants were shown to not only not be harmful, but to actually be very beneficial.
