I think that’s the true difference between the two. The key factor is that Chet has always had a cushion to fall back on no matter how hard he fucks around, the twins truly keep it real because that’s literally the only thing they’ve had going for them this far. His father was a meme and famous, he didn't have much of a social life at all, he had little free money as a kid, etc. He grew up in such a starkly different way that it is unfair to try and psychoanalyze him when none of us have been in his shoes. It's like a white, natural-born American trying to psychoanalyze a Brazilian immigrant. We can't expect to fairly diagnose them because in their culture what we see as abnormal is actually normal.

      It is a bit funny to read all the comments here about how "genuine" Chet comes across in these interviews. Yeah, he's not as much the douchebag rich white boy we thought, but he is still someone who grew up privileged and is trying to escape his identity and be someone else. The Hoff Twins are insane but they're not pretending to be that way (like Grimes for example). It's a bit sad but I think a lot of people are trying to escape who they are and wear some type of mask or throw themselves into an opposing subculture that they wish to be a part of.

    The part when dude said "I'm tryna watch Forest Gump wit cho Pops," I felt for Chet right there. He said in his piece that he's frustrated about having to deal with, literally, that entire sentence his entire life. Mans comes here, thinking these dudes are probably not going to bring it up and BAM!
    Also, I thought it was interesting watching Chet react to them speak on growing up broke and money bringing happiness. I felt like he wanted to chime in, but maybe didn't because he KNEW his message would be lost in the sauce.
    I believe that thinks Chet he would love to have the "respect" that the Hoff Twins have and the Hoff Twins want the rich and fame Chet has. Both would experience life on the other side and regret every second.

    Chet obviously has a lot he wanted to say. And he knows with Andrew it’s probably his best shot of getting his voice out without the Hollywood media tempering. He and his life are very complex the fact that he grew up with so much wealth and attention that no one could imagine easily, extremely privileged yet it doesn’t necessarily mean happiness. As someone looking from the outside, you could tell he knows exactly what he’s doing and he has incredible amount of love for his family yet he still couldn’t say too much because even the tiniest thing is up for all kinds of interpretation. Just imagine you need to live up a standard of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. He’s so much more than he appears to be. It’s not all good or bad, but it definitely makes him incredibly fascinating. The only thing people really need to know is that he means no harm that’s all and has kindness at heart. Let him live his life.

    • @ajack1312
      @ajack1312 2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      Well yeah, so far they're hoping the "fame" (more like viral meme notoriety at this point) is going to be their meal ticket/lead to more opportunity for them. They haven't had shit but a hard life in Golden Gate Village, an old dilapidated WW2 era housing project that is literally falling apart and is crime ridden. Surrounded by some of the richest neighborhoods in America on all sides, Marin City itself is hella well off except for those old projects they live in that have been there forever and have rent control.
      Their "home" and community as they know it may be gone soon because they're gonna have to demolish those old ass projects buildings because revitalizing em was not financially viable. The site sits on some of the most expensive real estate in America, hills overlooking the Bay Area. Residents are already scared they're gonna just build new million dollar+ condos there.
      Chet Hanks meanwhile never EVER has had to worry about making something out of nothing. He is Tom Hanks son, Tom Hanks got famous by being an actor who's very talented, his meal ticket was actually acting. Chet's meal AND fame ticket is "daddy", no one would know who he is or care about what he's doing at all if he wasn't Tom Hanks son.
      Chet's done nothing notable except make a meme song. He will still inherit a literal fortune one day unless he does something really bad/crazy and gets fully disowned. Plus if he ever gets tired of doing what he's doing and wants to do something else like get a nice college education or become more respectable through starting a legitimate business of some kind he has his family's fortune and deep network of personal connections as a Hollywood power family.
      He has a point about chasing fame, but it's not applicable at all to people in the Twin's position. They'll take the fame in a second because they can possibly LEVERAGE that fame into a financially secure, comfortable life. Something they've never had and have a slim chance statistically of ever achieving otherwise.

    I think this video feels so wholesome because it shows that we all have wealth in some areas of life and deficiencies in others. We need to start recognising that so many of the things that society says are far more important just aren't.
    There are a lot of proverbs that come to mind, but I think "The grass is always greener..." fits pretty nicely. I've been seeing a lot of interviews with celebrities who talk about how their pursuit and attainment of fame just results in them feeling empty and disconnected.
    We're all different, we all have our skills and faults, but we need to start seeing more of these things as just as valuable as cash and clout.
