Thule Pulse Cargo Box Review and Installation

- I searched everywhere for the right way to expand storage and there are so many options out there - hitch cargo carriers, roof racks, roof bags, cargo boxes galore. The Thule Pulse has been a good decision.
The Pulse (Large) sits perfectly on top of the 2019 RAV4. The XL would have been too long but the Large is perfect for a smaller SUV. It also has flexibility in how it's mounted - the clamps slide up and down so you aren't locked into just 1 size which I saw was an issue for other boxes.
This box can easily fit several suitcases/bags, golf clubs, sports equipment, coolers, Christmas presents, etc. It's a great solution for anyone who is looking for more cargo room without upgrading their vehicle to something larger.

Of course these help! It’s basically the volume of a large car trunk, so you’re essentially adding a full cars worth of cargo capacity.

Do you have recommendations for any padding or liner to keep my items from sliding around and scratching the inside of the box? And do you just hand tighten the grips? thanks for the video.
It’s really good material so haven’t had issues with scratching. I usually pack it pretty tight (normally a few duffel bags, fishing pole, box, some other random stuff) and it doesn’t move around. It comes with some straps you can use to tie down things also but I haven’t used those.
Yes you hand tighten the grips, easy to tighten but have to stretch over the roof to get to the far side. I stand on the front and back seat to tighten the clamps.
If you are a short person, how do you get up heigh enough to load the cargo bor once it is installed?

I would say yes but with the clamps it will be a bit tough because they stick out. How full are the bags?

Yes but keep in mind the clamps take up some space so you will need to fit things around those
Quick, straight-forward, no-nonsense review! Does water find it's way UP through those clamp slots while driving?!
It poured most of our first drive with this on our car and everything was completely dry. The plastic sits pretty tight on the clamps. Thanks for watching!
How did you install the inside clamps since the box doesn’t open on both sides
I have to step up onto the floor board/seat and reach across to get to them
Is this easy for thieves to take off? Do you normally take your stuff out once you reach the hotel area of your trip?
Not at all! It clamps from the inside and you lock it with the key that comes with it. I’ve left stuff in it overnight.
Anyone know what thule cargo box model is the biggest? Also what inperson stores sell them so I can see it in person? I'm in nys
Im not sure about which one is the biggest and would need to Google it. I looked at a few in-person at REI.

Can you fit baby strollers/wagons in ?
Hi there I just tested this with our foldable stroller and it fit just fine. I would definitely measure and cross reference the dimensions beforehand. I normally load the Thule with duffel bags and suit cases and leave the stroller in the back of our rav4 but it fit in the Thule as well.

Hi there I’m using Toyota RAV4 cross bars that I bought and picked up from the dealership. They were an easy install at home.
Just curious, how tall are you? I want to know the internal dimensions.
Hi there I’m 5’9” and had some room in there. It’s 76” long, 33” wide, and 16.5” high. It’s capacity is 16 cubic feet. The clamps do require some space so the floor isn’t completely flat so you’ll have to keep that in mind when you’re loading it up.

Ah good call- I just stand on the back seat and reach over to clamp them down. I get it positioned and centered first then start with the front left one.
But I guess this can't drive in to the parking garages when u going at beach an hotel
Depends on your vehicle and height for sure. Most should be fine in a parking garage but I’d double check the car height and additional height for rails and box. It’s pretty low profile

@@Shane23Armada gotcha those are nice but definitely bigger than our RAV4. I looked and found parking decks are normally 7’ or so but with the cargo box I don’t think it would fit. Maybe they would have other options for larger vehicles/vans that you could ask. There might be decks with higher clearance too.

Hmmm. I watched this to see if you had any tips to get the clamps on the far side of the box. You didn’t address that. Disappointed in your review.
