    The pipe in the front storage is for winterizing the water system. You just connect the hose to the fluid and it pumps through out the pipes.

    I appreciate that you don't candy coat everything (ie. the bed). Could you consider including a quick view of the plumbing on your videos. It is such an important part of the trailer build and so many trailers are cheaping out on the plumbing. The lighting does not impress me but getting a trailer that is least likely to leak does! This trailer looks nice though. Great view.

    I want to add actual owners perspective on towing the 2970RL. 1st and foremost, people need to understand that the advertised hitch weight from Grand Design is much lower than what people will be facing. We pack very light and on our 2970 the actual verified hitch weight was 1025 lb. We spent 2 years towing it with a Ford F150 that had a cargo capacity of 1900 lbs. We were withing all safety limits but the driving experience was far from ideal and a very tiring experience. There is absolutely no way someone should be towing this RV with a Toyota Tundra or any vehicle that only has a cargo capacity of 1200 lbs.
    We have upgraded our tow vehicle to a RAM 2500 and when towing the RV, it is like it is not even there. The ride is rock solid and a much more pleasant experience. The tail is no longer wagging the dog!
    All potential buyers of Grand Design should be aware that they do not use the correct plumbing connectors inside their RVs which have and could cause unnecessary leaks. Do your research before spending your hard earned money on any RV to make sure you are getting a quality product.

    Thanks for metrics explanation. So many people have no idea what it takes to pull the different types of travel trailers, fifth wheels etc. they are surprised their “SUV” that is actually a “small crossover “ will not pull perhaps a 7,000 empty TT. Shocked when they find out. This happened to a close family member.

    Warning about the ceiling lights: I have a 2023 GD 2670MK and put dimmers in the extremely bright ceiling lights in both the bed and main rooms. Unfortunately, GD daisy chains the ground wires for the ceiling lights in the main room with the ceiling fan and desk overhead lights, and did the same with the reading lights above the bed. After adding a dimmer in the main room, I could no longer turn the ceiling fan or desk lights on without having the ceiling lights on. Since they did work independently before, I knew the power wires had different sources so it had to be the ground wires they had in common. Sure enough, when I ran a separate ground wire to them, they worked correctly without the ceiling light having to be on. Since they had to run independent power wires to the fan and lights, I had to wonder why GD didn't do the same with the grounds. The 2023 has the little puck lights in the ceiling, but I'll bet the new light strips are wired the same.

    I don't like the puck light color, but I think other lights are very interesting. How would you change them if they stopped working? It would be nice to be able to dim all independently as I first saw them all on. I thought it was nice but too bright for my eyes, even on the video! O the overhead cabinets, they need struts to hold them open and not open, then slam bam. Thank you, mam, on your hand as you try and take something out especially if you need two hands to get it done. All in all a very interesting travel trailer and a great review thanks!

    I have a 2022 version of this trailer and we love it but have two recommendations. First is on the sliding door to go into the master bedroom needs to be locked better. Mine is a 50 Amp version of the trailer with two air conditioners and the second thermostat is right next to the door got destroyed by the door even with the bungee attached so it was not enough to stop it from sliding back and forth. I had to put a lock on the door so it won't move anymore. The second thing is the second awning on the slide needs a light strip like what is under the first awning. When the family is hanging out we didn't have enough lighting so we ended up pulling the lanterns out.

    Love: lights on dimmers
    Skeptical: arc lights - not sure they'll provide as much light, so I'd have to see it in person to evaluate; particularly concerned about enough light over the island/sink in the kitchen
    Hate: cool light. If I need energetic light, I'll, um, go outside or raise the blinds. I'd be super excited about relaxing, warm light. Same for outdoor lightstrips: I'd prefer warm tones or even red (to assist with night vision).

    Hi Myles. I just got a new Nissan titan and I am able to tow fifth wheels with it. I was confused about what I could tow with it and looked at a fifth wheel magazine site. Apparently towing capacity is different than cargo capacity, which I didn't know. I have a towing capacity (which you can tow behind you using a hitch) of 11.040 lbs. I have a cargo capacity of 2,430 lbs ( which is what you use for the hitching up of fifth wheels) . For pulling a fifth wheel the cargo capacity is more important than the towing capacity. When I look at a fifth wheel it will say a towing capacity of say 1300 lbs which is good for my truck but than I have to make sure that the overall gross weight is not surpassing the towing capacity of 11.040 lbs. Ernie.

    • @mylesrv
      @mylesrv  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It seems the Titan is one of the more capable half ton trucks 👍

    • @ryanryan6207
      @ryanryan6207 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is nowhere near what is needed for a fifth wheel. Dealers will tell you the truck is fine but don't listen to them. The pin weight will be at least 1700 lbs (fully loaded) plus the weight of the hitch which will be at least 200 lbs plus the weight of things in your vehicle (people, supplies). Plus, experts will tell you to stay around 80% of your towing capacity which rules out most fifth wheels. Even this trailer is right at your towing limit.

Hitch wt 950 and down. With the cost of 2/3 and 1 ton trucks family size campers our out of the picture if you guys don't start promoting 1/2 ton 30' trailer combo's 😮😮 next time get a 33' trailer and set up leveler Hitch and pull about 100 miles with gas mileage and tow ease ability... Thanks for helping out 😊

    You should’ve connected the trailer to the truck and see what the trailer would’ve done to the truck when you put the weight on it. The hose is for winterizing the water system. I have a 22’ 2970RL and other than the lighting which pic lighting works well so that change wouldn’t impress me any, I changed my tv to a 43” Samsung, better tv, and the rest the same. There is no way I would tow with a 1/2 ton to dangerous in the long run. I have two A/C’s thank god. Yah the mattress is terrible. And I replaced my toilet with a 320 far better. And yes we do live in it. Ok I don’t have tankless water heater, but not an issue. But don’t get discouraged by what I’ve said, this is a great Travel Trailer, mine was built during the so-called pandemic, so there have been some major issues I’ve repaired at my expense.Hopefully their inspections are better now.

    6:26 Trailer + truck load (you, wife, dog, camp chairs, etc) is going to exceed cargo capacity of that baby truck. Simple trick, a small truck (150/1500 series) stick to single axel trailers. As soon as you go to double axel you need at least 700lb cargo capacity to even come close to being safe….start looking at 3/4t trucks for double axel….

    • @EVDan532
      @EVDan532 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The GD 17MKE is a double axle which can be easily pulled by a half-ton truck. Of course, it's a really small trailer. IMHO single axle trailers are scary. 😵‍💫 This is my favorite GB, but I don't have the truck weight to pull it. Thanks for posting this on TH-cam.

    • @Cloud_Surfer
      @Cloud_Surfer 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EVDan532 a Subaru Outback could pull a double axel GD travel trailer, doesn’t mean it should. It comes down to hitch/pin weights and if the tow vehicle can STOP with the weight behind it. That ability comes with two requirements, larger brakes/rotors/suspension and a heavier vehicle. If towing a single axel is “scary”, maybe don’t tow at all.

      Fully agree. I have a 34’ trailer (6000lbs UVW), towing with Ram 1500 that had around 1200 lbs payload like this Tundra. I weighed it (weight Distribution set up properly) a few different times, and unless I had water in it (tank was at back of trailer), I was over the GVWR of the truck. We got hit sideways by a strong gust of wind that almost blew us off the road (it already wasn’t a comfortable drive)…two weeks later we had a Ram 2500. The hitch weight should be more like 12%, and this trailer would be using most of that Tundra payload. I’ve seen a couple new Tundras towing, and I can’t believe how much squat they have.

    Just to play it safe, your half ton Toyota is not a vehicle I’d use to tow this size of trailer. I myself own a 2023 Grand Design Imagine 2970RL. I use a 3/4 ton to tow, plus the appropriate hitch set up and anti sway bar. My3/4 ton is enough to be the tow vehicle, even when a larger vehicle pass me I get the pull from the larger vehicle into the passing vehicle. My 3/4 ton truck weighs out about 7900 pounds empty. Don’t believe your half ton even comes close to being in that weight of a 3/4 ton truck. The state I live in will not allow any dealer sell you this trailer if you own a half ton pickup. Might want to check your self and don’t believe what the manufacturer states, you could be short changed on the truck. Get the half ton truck weighed at a truck scales. The half ton truck uses lighter axles, springs, and wheel and tire.

    Don’t like the strip lights at all - it’s so Nick Tahoe, looks like a cheesy night club. I don’t like the two-toned cabinets either. I don’t understand why these RV designers don’t look at home design trends or even what people are doing in their RV remodels, there are so many TH-cam videos out there. The goal of most RV remodels is to make them look like a home, not a night club. My husband and I are in the market for our first RV and while we like the reputation of Grand Design, I just don’t like all the Slick-Willy design features. I want a warm and cozy home-away-from-home and they’re giving me a cold and austere doctor’s office. I like the Alliance Delta interiors so much more but I’m torn: reputation vs ascetics???
