Also forgot to mention that I got stuck on that Peyto Lake Dumpster last summer (was in there with a 32' TT)... It's in an awful spot right at the apex of the turn lol we got lucky with a vehicle pulling out and got those inches we needed
Yeah... it's a traffic jam waiting to happen! And if someone parks over that line on that last spot or sticks their nose out a little extra...you're stuck! -J
I'm glad you guys are too! Love the videos, keep them coming! If I don't convince my husband to go RVing, I can at least have a list of where I want to go. Canada is so beautiful and I think that is one place he hasn't been. I am so looking forward to Alaska.
Trinity just wants to be best friends with Cody but doesn't understand that her head is as big as his body and tongue is the size of his face... 😂 Thanks for the compliment. Being real while also entertaining is our number 1 goal. -J
I have spent 2 days going back to watch your “beginning” videos, getting to this one. I admire how you work as a team. Your videos are educational and very entertaining. I wish I had the guts to just take off and hit the road with my RV. But, being a 67 year old widowed female who has no one to travel with I just sit home and live my life through yours.
I'm glad we can give you an escape! But if you have the ability and opportunity to get out and see some adventure for yourself I encourage you to do it! Maybe a bus tour to a national park. (Not forcing you 😁 We're happy to have you live vicariously through the channel as well!) -J
Wow, we did that trip last summer (August) and it was epic!! We hit the road early so we missed all/most of the crowds along Icefields Parkway, and we were in absolute awe of the beauty. I think one of the comments below your video was that the beauty brought them to tears, and I would have to agree. Thanks for sharing your journey and the footage. For those who haven't taken the trip, it's a must. We also were able to "camp" at the base of the glacier for $20 in the parking lot of the Columbia Icefield and that was an experience of a lifetime. We had the parking lot camp spot to ourselves, so we turned our motorhome to take advantage of the view of the glacier, and the stars that night were unbelievable. We are so sad to see how the fires have affected everything and everyone in that area. Keeping them all in our prayers. The trip is a bucket list for sure.
The image of the rainbow over the lake…was amazing. I couldn’t help but notice the end of the lake , just behind and to the right, is shaped like a huge star. So cool.
I never get tired of watching people’s reaction to driving the Ice Fields Parkway. Ive probably driven it 130-200 times. Be sure to stop at Liard Hot Springs on your way to Alaska. I’ll follow your journey. 👍
Thank you. The best part of everything is that we get to do it together. I truly mean that. Kalyn was gone for a couple days a couple years back and I went on a pretty awesome hike.....wasn't nearly as fun. -J
Loved seeing the rainbow over the lake! I’ve always wanted to capture a rainbow over water or waterfalls. Just beautiful! And the bonding between Cody and Trinity was heartwarming ♥️ Thanks guys, for taking us along. Such beautiful scenery and your narration and photography is great!
Thank you! We couldn't believe our luck in seeing that rainbow! Had we gotten their earlier it would have been too foggy to see the view - instead we got there just as everything was breaking apart and it was sooo beautiful! -J
Love hearing from down under! (Curious - do you call it that? If not...do you hate that we do?) We try so hard to make this real and fun each week. Thank you for the compliment!! -J
As the song says... " we come from the land down under "..😊. I'm enjoying seeing your country through you- and your friends traveling together in tandem ❤.
Those aren't ketchup chips, never heard of crispers, try the old dutch. My favorite chocolate bar is coffee crisp (and Mr. Big). Regardless it's cool that you picked up some Canadian snacks. Loved the snuggles between Trinity and Coty. She is such a good girl. 🇨🇦🎉
We had a blowout once and it was really scary. We were able to get off the road and it took an hour for the AAA guy to get to us, but it all worked out. The tire looked good, but it was over 5 years old (maybe closer to 6 years old). Now we automatically get new tires at 5 years. It didn't damage our trailer, for which we were grateful. Safe travels!
Yeah! Blowouts are crazy. We had one last year (first one in 4 years of travel at the time) and what was crazy about ours is that it shredded...but remained fully inflated!! Scared the tar out of me twice... first when it happened and second because I didn't want to get close to it to work on it for fear it could blow up at any second because all the tread was gone and just the silver metal wires were staring at me. 😬 -J
I live in a stretch of interstate in Illinois that is only 15 miles maybe without an exit. I stop and help rookie RVer’s all the time with a tire that has blown out, torn up the side of their RV and screwed up all their relaxation plans. change your tires! grease your bearings! if it’s been an uncomfortable amount of time since you’ve done either maintenance item why wait? You bought one tire to replace one that was on the road running knowing that your spare was not that great either you really should’ve bought two so at least go ahead and just buy all five and do not ever buy Chinese trailer tires. The other habit you should get away from is setting your phone on top the outside of your vehicle. You’re obviously younger than me and I’m sure have a better memory, but I never lay my phone on the gas pump on top of the truck on the hood anywhere outside the vehicle. I’m normally in a panic inside the car trying to find my phone. 😳
@@OpenRoading I forgot to say, we replaced both tires on that side, because all the weight of the trailer was on the good tire for a short time, and we didn't know if it might fail soon after.
@shawnmason5290 "You bought one tire to replace one that was on the road running knowing that your spare was not that great either you really should’ve bought two....go ahead and just buy all five." First - my spare has some wear but it's not next to death. 😂 More broadly, I don't know if you know this or not - but we have had to be quite frugal for the past 3+ years. Even now, as we make ends meet while also having a small "nest egg" for this trip we are not able to simply do a lot of things if it costs hundreds or even a thousand dollars. Every purchase we have made we have thought through significantly. We have 640w of solar panels. Would love to get more. Small battery bank. Would be awesome to expand it. Would love to have a professional re-roof the RV as opposed to my DIY seal job. This is not at all a complaint. I'm actually quite content in life. I'm just trying to explain why someone like me may not always do the thing that seems super logical to you. Who knows, we may live to regret not changing all 5 tires all at once... but laying out a grand for tires when the tires I have all have life on them isn't high on my maintenance priority list. As to helping rookie RVers - that's awesome! I'm so glad you offer your assistance in that way! We've been doing this for 5 years now. I've had one tire blowout in those 5 years and that was last fall. It probably won't be my last because if you do this stuff long enough, stuff like blowouts are bound to happen You may not have seen it yet but I greased my bearings literally in the next video and we're going to be replacing all the hubs, bearings, and brakes very shortly. That was supposed to get done before Canada but there were some crossed wires in communication that caused the delay (mostly my fault). If I can go behind the curtain for a second, it's the one part of the comments section I struggle with a little. Each week we get very well meaning people telling us all the expensive things we should buy. In many cases....we'd love to...but it was 9 months ago that we went full on transparent with our "We're Broke! Here's our goal! Work our way out of it and get to Alaska!" video. Somehow...I think people either think we were lying, or that TH-cam is suddenly paying us 10K each month (Which is not happening as of yet but we're workin on it! - we were quite transparent on those numbers as well back in March). There's thousands of dollars worth of work that I'd love to get done on the RV and truck. But for me, that's not something I can just drop and do tomorrow. If something crops up, we'll deal with it. If a tire blows tomorrow, we'll deal with it - all without complaint. Meanwhile, we will slowly and surely get to the place where we can say "Hey...I know those treads still have life left... but let's replace all 5 of those tires at once because we're going on a big trip." So there's a quick peek behind Joe at Open Roading. I assure you that your comment did not make me mad, but I did want to hopefully give you a little understanding as to why I make some of the decisions that I do. -J
Take it from someone who lived in Banff National Park for a long time...the best time of year to visit is late September. Great weather, no crowds and the trails are snow free! May and June have some of the most volatile weather. The thing to remember is that much like the US national parks, Canada's national parks were also designed well before the age of large RV's.
I’m so enjoying your trip through Canada. My wife and I leave South Carolina July 9th next month to take a 14 week trip to Alaska with our Jeep Gladiator and 135 Retro tiny camper. I’m marking all your info to use some of the places you all are staying at. Thanks for the great info and videos.
😂 IT WASN'T JUST ME! lol That parking lot was a wee bit tight. When we were there the first time there were 3 cars and zero rvs. Thus my optimism. 😂 -J
Hello Joe and Kaylyn, I enjoyed watching your time in Banff. I would like to suggest that when the two of you are driving in the mountains that this is the safest way to safely make it to the bottom of the mountains without any drama: "Snubbing" is a braking technique that involves firmly applying the brakes for a short time to slow a vehicle down at a gentle rate while driving downhill. It's generally considered a safer method than lightly applying the brakes throughout the descent because it allows the brakes to cool down between applications and helps prevent brake fade. Please do NOT only use the trailer brakes when going down the mountain, that is very unsafe! Also, for such a heavy RV Trailer as you own it might be a good idea to have a diesel 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck that is equipped with an exhaust brake (also called an engine brake or Jake Brake). An additional rule of thumb is to go downhill in the same gear that you went while driving up the mountain. Some will suggest going downhill one gear lower than what you used while going uphill. I hope that you continue to enjoy your time in Canada, and I wish you a safe trip abroad.
Thanks for the tips. We don’t use exclusively the trailer brakes. I apologize if it looked that way. Was just using that as a tiny extra assist. I generally get the truck in 2nd or 3rd gear depending on the grade. We’ve only ever smoked our truck brakes once and that’s because I didn’t realize we were about to be on a long grade and it took me a bit to get down to downshifting speed. I never “ride” the brakes on the truck or trailer. -J
I enjoy your videos. I’ve been watching you save up for Alaska trip you guys stay very positive. I do have to say I can’t believe you didn’t start the trip with all new tires. I know money is tight, but it seems very important. Wishing you safe travels on your journey. Have fun.
We did not. But our tires (minus the one that we replace in the next video) all have a lot of life left! Maybe we’ll be a cautionary tale but I do think we’ll be ok. However it shakes out we will roll with the punches! -J
So glad you stuck around for us. It's been a rollercoaster couple of weeks for us struggling with content and technical issues but this video felt reallly really good. -J
Great video. You guys are getting masterful at the editing. We were on the icefields parkway a few years ago and we did the Bow Glacier Hike too. It was stunning and luckily the falls were fully thawed out. The funny part is we were there at the beginning of July, and lots of trails were still snowed in. I think Banff is best in late summer or very early fall! Looking forward to following your adventures on the Alcan!
I am so lucky that my family traveled from our home in the Chicago area to the Canadian Rockies and the Icefield Parkway way back in 1969 or 1970.!!!! I remember camping north of Jasper near where the Snaring river joins the Athabaska river...BEAUTIFUL.!!!!!
That rainbow is a gorgeous. I’m so glad Trinity and Cody became buds. Trinity really was meant for you guys. JIF tastes more roasted. My husband LOVES Caramilks. I love the Wunderbar (sp?).
We have a dog that barks at anything he thinks is a dog. And he ALWAYS barks at Trinity. In fact as soon as we start playing your videos, he watches for her.
If you haven't been to a Tim Horton's, go! It's like Pantera, Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts had a baby together. The one we went to was amazing! Canadian grocery stores have so so many flavors we don't have in the US.
Oh no... We're heading up to Banff next year, sounds like I need to research some things. I was SO excited to see the Alaska Highway sign!! It's getting real now! I'm thinking that's a 2026 trip, IF all goes well for you and the crew lol Take care, enjoy the FHU and can't wait to see more.
For Banff - You want to book early IMO and then plan your adventures for early morning or after supper if you want to try to avoid crowds. (Hot tip - parking to Lake Louise is free after 7 or 7:30pm.)
I know what Crispers are good for! When in the bush you eat one with each bite of french fry!! No need to worry about running out of ketchup, it won't freeze and you get used to it after awhile.....
Canada is so beautiful!! Your Canadian snack segment was super fun! I don’t think I could eat seasoned anything with PB&J. Or tomato soup chips. Haha! Kudos to y’all!!
Is this a precursor of what’s to come, you ask. Absolutely!!! Icefields Parkway is totally awesome. So excited, and maybe a little bit jealous, for you guys. Enjoy!
McIntosh on the list.... Coffee Crisp is not....because both of us hate the taste of coffee so we'd give it a terrible review. (please don't unsubscribe. I know this will probably taint your view of us forever....) 🙂 -J
I just found your family yesterday and I have been binge watching and day dreaming about hopefully ever being able to do this! Kalyn you look so much like Christy Carlson Romano! I had to say something but I'm sure you get that all the time.
You will not be disappointed. I had to do some binge watching last winter. I started when Trinity showed up. It just popped up and I’ve never missed one since.
We spent a week in Jasper and a week in Banff last year. When I saw you get gas in the last video, I was nervous. I knew the exact gas station you were at, and there is not a lot of room in that town. Icefields Parkway is beautiful. My wife recorded so much video I had to upgrade the icloud storage. When you visit in future years look into visiting Mount Robson a couple hours west of Jasper. For the wheel center cap it appears they have some on Amazon, but I would also check a local trailer repair/supply shop. I am excited for your adventure and look forward to future videos.
I don't know why I don't look on amazon for things like this. I'll be sure to look! Local retailers have been striking out for me. We drove through Jasper and really felt so bad that we didn't explore it more. Just means we'll have to come back sometime! -J
Great video- You could see the hand of God creating that beautiful area. Thank you for sharing it. Have a suggestion for Trin. You can find cheap magnetic curtains to hang in your vehicle. For now you could put an old towel across the window - that may help her not focus on next door neighbor. Also - do you have a tire monitor? Stay safe and enjoy!
Thanks for the tip! We do have a TPMS for 3 of our 4 RV tires. (4th cap failed). I want to upgrade because this TPMS system is really quite slow to update. It's on the "To buy" list but that list is long and expensive. 😂 -J
So beautiful! I think you might be right about the motorcycle catching attention because a lot of people are having issues with toy haulers so your setup gives them another option. Poor Craig! LOL at least he was a good sport. I hate round abouts too! Did they not watch the National Lampoon's European Vacation? They are so confusing, I actually saw a car enter one in our town and go left instead of right... lucky for them no one else was in the round about at the time. So glad that you are changing out that tire "HapplilyEverHanks" had one blow out and it cause damage to their RV.
I saw that with the Hanks! We had one delaminate on us last fall. Thankfully only tiny bits of damage (other than the tire of course). I am really happy for one thing with our rig - our tires run at 80psi. So many of the newer rigs run at 120 and I have to imagine that the higher the psi - the bigger the explosion - the more probability of damage. -J
Trin was so adorable tasting the rabbit. You can swap the tire on the rim yourself, it is not hard with a couple spoons (bars). I hope you guys are having fun and the trip is going very well, I wanted to go up to Alaska this summer but will not make it this year. Stay safe and healthy.
Make sure you get your mile zero certificate at the museum next to the sign. We had our dogs name as well as ours printed on it. The woman that filled it out must have had calligraphy training. The writing was very elegant. It was free last year. You can get the completion certificate in Alaska at the Delta Junction Visitor Center. Check their open hours as they close early. There is a nominal charge for that one.
You guys are so cute together. Salt is Sodium Chloride. Half that w/ Potassium chloride is what you find in Morton's Lite Salt or Lo Salt. Or it's the full ingredient in non-sodium salt.
people have suggested etrailer for the center caps - I haven't had a chance to look yet. I agree - sometimes the "Aesthetic parts" cost way more than necessary in my opinion. -J
Freson Bros. Grocery in Hinton, is overnight friendly. They have the best deli for ready to eat food and the selection of products are reasonably priced.
@@TheGirthbomb I will look on our way back through Canada this fall. I think at this point we are contractually obligated to do a Part 2 of the Canadian snacks segment. 😁 -J
Joe, on your tire wear... that usually tells me your axle bushings and alignment plates are wearing out, stretching with the turning and pressures.... The bolt will actually stretch into oblong holes instead of original round holes for securement. Folks will replace tire after tire because the axles are working against each other and literally scrubbing your tread off pulling it down the boulevard.
Appreciate this! We've been working a 3 step plan - least expensive to most expensive. First up was replacing the 20 year old shocks. All tires were wearing pretty poorly prior to the change out - wear has greatly improved. This tire was the worst one left. We just put the tire we had underneath as the spare on in it's place (next video). Next up is 4 new hubs, bearings, and brakes. The original plan was to get those done either just before crossing into Canada or while we were in Dawson. But our wires got crossed with the retailer so unfortunately that got delayed a bit. Quick Q - The bushings would be replaced with this, correct? Or are the bushings something that would not be included with complete hubs and bearings? Lastly - if our issue is persisting we will go in and check if an axle is bent/tweaked. The reason I chose to do it in this order was because the first 2 things needed to be done anyway - and I couldn't justify the expense of doing all 3 all at once. -J
@@OpenRoading On your bushings and plates..... NO they will not be done with bearings and brakes unless you stipulate it... Gotta remember... mechanics are humans.. they do what's on the check list or order. nothing more unless you ask!! Those little bushing plates are probably 20-30$ and are 85% of the cause of tire wear/ other than low air pressure. Good Luck hoss, stay on top of your suspension and axles. They are literally the life of your rig...
@@GregPrince-io1cb 10-4. I'm going to be doing it myself just getting all the hubs, bearings, and brakes coming in. At bare minimum I will make sure to do research on the bushings so I know what I'm looking at when I pull it off. -J
@@MrRoboto2338 Yep! thought you were being genuine! 😁 We've gotten some criticism on this thumbnail which has been a little weird to me but it's part of having a youtube channel! -J
See if you can find a butter tart. They are like mini pecan pies, but without the pecans. My mom loves those things and has my family bring them down any time they come from Canada.
Enjoy watching your channel. Iam Canadian and love peanut butter so do my two pup dogs. 🥰 It is a bit of a joke with my American friends that kraft peanut butter is the best. 😁 I always load up with it before we go to Florida for snowbird season I can’t do jiffy 😲 safe travels can’t wait to see the rest of your trip. We also enjoy Craig and Victoria.
Everything I’ve read and heard is start your trip to Alaska with new tires. We’re going next year. Better safe than sorry when you’re stranded miles from anywhere and damaging your trailer. Safe travels.
There are lots of things we've heard all the way around. One thing I have learned is to don't go too far back in time when doing research. This road has changed a lot in the last few years. That said - we drive this rig year round so there was no way I was going to take tires with 3/4 life off for the trip. We'll see! Maybe I'll become a dire warning story. 😂 in all seriousness though there are 2 things I am observing (we have done 3 days on the alcan so far) 1. Most damage can be avoided by slowing down. So many RVs driving too fast for road conditions. Frost heaves aren't nearly as bad if you don't hit them at 65mph. A blown tire at 65mph is going to do more damage than one at 50mph. 2. One of the things I like about our rig is the tires run at 80psi. A lot of more modern trailer run tire pressures over 100...to me...that's potentially creating more potential for damage in an tire failure. -J
Love SunChips! We've got them in the US! I think we started loving them when they had those terribly loud bags back 10 years ago or so. It's good to hear we aren't alone on the Ketchup chip front although we've had a LOT of feedback that what we were eating weren't technically chips (as if it's going to be a lot different....we shall see). -J
Awesome video... I don't know if anyone mentioned it but Canadian Kit Kats do taste different than US ones... Ours are made by Nestle instead of Hershey... I find the taste less waxy... So yeah lol give a plain Kit Kat a go lol
Wait....Hershey makes the Kit Kats in Canada?? I know Canadian chocolate is different as a whole (they have different regulations on chocolate imports) but I had no idea it switched brands! How weird! -J
We just found you guys through Craig and Victoria and are totally enjoying your videos... you crack us both up! ... okay about the ketchup crispers ... those aren't chips!!! Totally different animal... Lol! You need to buy actual ketchup potato chips and taste test again! 😁😜 .... Oh! ... and have you tried a Wunderbar ... those are amazing!!!
I think we are contractually obligated by the comments section to do a redo on the Ketchup chips at some point... but no I have not tried Wunderbar and it looks delicious! Craig and Victoria are the best! Thanks for checking us out! -J
The way Kayle lead into the lunch segment, I thought for sure you were going to do the peanut butter & Fluffernutter sandwich?!? 😋 After you discovered your worn tire and then said you were going to milk the tire for another 200+ miles,.... I was just waiting to see you changing a tire on the side of the road. 😗 But you made it!! 🙏🙏
Haha! I hear you! It didn’t happen overnight though…that tire had been wearing down for a while so I was pretty confident I still had a couple hundred left in it - especially at lower speeds. -J
You have to try the coffee crisps candy bars, I love them, wish we could get them in the US. I preferred Peyto Lake over Lake Louise! We thought Banff was so much better then Glacier! Traveling the same way as you guys towards Alaska.
Try Mexican Chili chips by Old Dutch. I don't know if they are only a Canadian snack but I've only ever seen that flavor in Canada. One of my all time favorites. Also, try ketchup chips by Lays or Old Dutch. Maybe you'll find those more appealing than the crisps. I love ketchup chips but it seems like it's an acquired taste.
"seems like it's an acquired taste" That means I would have to try them multiple times....why....why would one do that. 😂 We are going to try one of the other brands on our way back to the states! -J
Use heavier straps on that cycle or double up the straps. I saw a Harley being dragged behind an RV when one of the straps broke. When you hit a bump or brake hard the pressure on those straps multiplies greatly. I once towed a 20 ft trailer into Banff. I pulled a u-turn and got my rig impounded for awhile. Watch the signs. LOL Going north you can always find a tire shop but not always your tire size. Remember once you are on the Alaska Highway the town get very far apart and often quite small. A common tire size in the US may be odd in the far north. I've made this trip four times since the 80s. If your rig is reliable, tires are the only suggestion I have for people. Going north in the winter is spectacular. It is getting pretty civilized up there these days.
So...I don't mean to be defensive...but.... The straps are rated for 2,000lbs. There are 4 of them - 2 on the front 2 on the back. they are clip style (not an open S) and my bike is 360-400lbs wet. The average Harley's start around 450 and can be closer to 1,000. We've done this setup now for 3 years - I swapped the straps out for new ones late last year even though the old ones showed very little wear. -J
Yes. Our RV's rear-mounted bike rack actually broke at one end and dropped the front wheel of the bike onto the road and drug it that way until someone flagged us down in time to prevent its breaking loose entirely and taking out our Accord... Always reinforce and check frequently.
Agreed! They're awesome! Ok...when you say "Lots" are we talking.... 7-10 flavors? Cause it seemed to me in Canada that there was a whole aisle of kitkat. 😂 I'm going to try to remember to take photos on our way back. My memory is probably exaggerating it just a touch. lol -J
@@FamilyGamersAA I'd be super curious how many you've seen so I'll try to remember to get a photo for comparison maybe they just keep all the seasonal ones in stock all the time 😂 -J
Kalyin you needed to do Old Dutch ketchup chips not ketchup crispers 😉. Always love to see people enjoy our backyard 🙂. Proud Albertans / Canadians. Oh and have you had butter tarts?
Also forgot to mention that I got stuck on that Peyto Lake Dumpster last summer (was in there with a 32' TT)... It's in an awful spot right at the apex of the turn lol we got lucky with a vehicle pulling out and got those inches we needed

Thank goodness I was fortunate to visit Banff and Jasper starting in the early sixties.
What fantastic freedom to experience such awesome Parks.
We'll be sure to try the right brand on our way to the lower 48! -J
@shawnmason5290 "You bought one tire to replace one that was on the road running knowing that your spare was not that great either you really should’ve bought two....go ahead and just buy all five."
First - my spare has some wear but it's not next to death. 😂
More broadly, I don't know if you know this or not - but we have had to be quite frugal for the past 3+ years.
It probably won't be my last because if you do this stuff long enough, stuff like blowouts are bound to happen
You may not have seen it yet but I greased my bearings literally in the next video and we're going to be replacing all the hubs, bearings, and brakes very shortly.
Meanwhile, we will slowly and surely get to the place where we can say "Hey...I know those treads still have life left... but let's replace all 5 of those tires at once because we're going on a big trip."
So there's a quick peek behind Joe at Open Roading. I assure you that your comment did not make me mad, but I did want to hopefully give you a little understanding as to why I make some of the decisions that I do. -J
The icefield parkway is a beautiful drive. The drive from Haines Junctuion to Haines is just as beautiful!.
If that's on our trip I can't wait! -J
ice fields Parkway is right in my home province glad you enjoyed the drive. New class C owner here and following your adventure
Still the most beautiful road we've ever driven! Your province is gorgeous!! -J
You are so brave and enthusiastic in your endeavors. Loving every minute of it.
Glad you're enjoying the ride Mike! We've made it a few miles since Tin Valley!
As someone who has visited Banff twice in mid September, I would concur. Beautiful weather in one of the most beautiful spots on earth.
I guess we'll have to give it a 3rd try sometime. 😂 -J
Very cool! If you run into us please say Hi! We'll still be up here! -J
Great video! Thanks for sharing ur adventures with us. Safe travels!
Thank you! -J
I am in awe of your skill! Amazes me driving your trailer on those areas! Great job.
😂 IT WASN'T JUST ME! lol
That parking lot was a wee bit tight.
Such an amazing trip. Looking forward to following your journey. You got this!
@@OpenRoading Not trying to be too critical just worried about your safety. You gotta do the best with what you got.
@@Markpatrickrich You'll be interested in the video coming on August 23rd. -J
Missed y'all last week, but I tell ya... It was worth the wait! Thank you for sharing y'alls journey! Safe travels!
That's crazy! It looked like the snow would be gone in another week or two this year....that said...I'm no expert in the matter. LOL! -J
@@OpenRoading It was the higher elevation hikes that were all closed still, which was a bummer, because those were the ones we wanted to do the most!
Hope y’all are having a great time. Keep that fuel tank full and enjoy the ride🤗
We haven't run out of fuel....does that count? 👀 😁 -J
Omg wow the water was so beautiful.
Right?!?! Some of the prettiest water we've ever seen! -J
So so beautiful! -J
I hope that you decide to use Highway 37 on the return from Alaska. The route is less travelled but has its own special beauty.
That rainbow is a gorgeous.
I’m so glad Trinity and Cody became buds. Trinity really was meant for you guys.
JIF tastes more roasted.
My husband LOVES Caramilks. I love the Wunderbar (sp?).
Trinity has been such a wonderful addition to our fam! So so much joy! -J
Jealous of your Alaska trip!! So excited to be traveling along with you! Have fun and be safe!❤😊

You should try Nanaimo bars and Coffee Crisp bars two other famous Canadian candies
Nanimo on the list - Coffee Crisp is not....like fish...we don't like coffee. I know...it's a travesty. 😂 -J
If you haven't been to a Tim Horton's, go! It's like Pantera, Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts had a baby together. The one we went to was amazing! Canadian grocery stores have so so many flavors we don't have in the US.
We stopped at one years ago so we'll have to give it another go sometime! -J
😂
And if you miss the texture of ketchup maybe just soak them in water? lol -J
And how about as a crispy addition to a sandwich or hotdog instead of ketchup.
Canada is so beautiful!! Your Canadian snack segment was super fun! I don’t think I could eat seasoned anything with PB&J. Or tomato soup chips. Haha! Kudos to y’all!!
lol! We love chips with our sandwiches - but the Ketchup was just a bit tooooo far. LOL -J
Is this a precursor of what’s to come, you ask. Absolutely!!! Icefields Parkway is totally awesome. So excited, and maybe a little bit jealous, for you guys. Enjoy!
I just hope that we can keep the jealousy and not turn it into "Wow...that was a hot mess...glad we stayed home this summer!" 😂 -J

I concur!
McIntosh on the list.... Coffee Crisp is not....because both of us hate the taste of coffee so we'd give it a terrible review. (please don't unsubscribe. I know this will probably taint your view of us forever....) 🙂 -J
Yay great to see you both back this week 🎉🎉
It was so good to be back. We absolutely hated scrapping last weeks video. -J
I just found your family yesterday and I have been binge watching and day dreaming about hopefully ever being able to do this! Kalyn you look so much like Christy Carlson Romano! I had to say something but I'm sure you get that all the time.
Someone said she looks like Tammy Fay Baker once….we like your comparison much better. 😂 -J

For Canadian snacks you MUST try Hawkins Cheesies!
Where would one find these? -J
@@OpenRoading any grocery store will have them.
Omg that lake was absolutely beautiful I don’t even have words
Those were our legit reactions to it. It was soooo much better than we imagined especially after coming and seeing it frozen. -J
Try the Vachon cakes, particularly the Billot Log, the Passion Flakie - Apple Raspberry flavor and the Jos Louis.
Tried a Joe Louis! I think I like it better than an american swiss roll.
Have you watched me do projects? I can turn "Not hard" into an all day project in the snap of a finger! 🤣 -J
Oh no! We didn't do that! However....we're not hitting Delta Junction so we probably wouldn't have been able to get the "completion" part of it. -J
We had a tire that was wearing more than the others. Put a straight edge from hub to hub or so. We did this and we were out of alignment.
Nice! -J
You guys are so cute together. Salt is Sodium Chloride. Half that w/ Potassium chloride is what you find in Morton's Lite Salt or Lo Salt. Or it's the full ingredient in non-sodium salt.
Haha! They should say that then for those of us who see Potassium Chloride and are like "YES! GIVE ME ALL THE CHEMICALS!" 😂 -J
Ice fields rd is a beautiful drive. Am from Alberta and have traveled it many times from Jasper to Banff.
Most beautiful road I've ever driven so far. -J
So fun! Welcome to Alberta! Look for Hawkins cheezies and the Coffee Crisp chocolate bar 😊
Will keep an eye out for it all except for the Coffee Crisp! -J
I had a missing dust cover too and never could find one. I ended up ordering new center caps from etrailer which cost more than a cap should I think.
people have suggested etrailer for the center caps - I haven't had a chance to look yet. I agree - sometimes the "Aesthetic parts" cost way more than necessary in my opinion. -J
Great views. Thanks for sharing.

Look for Hawkins Cheezies.
Yes the most classic 🇨🇦 snack, I bring them back to my friends in the US.
I keep looking every place we stop! i may not be looking in the right places. -J
They're with the chips usually in an orange cellophane package with red and white stripes on top and bottom.

in all seriousness though there are 2 things I am observing (we have done 3 days on the alcan so far)
-J
Hope you are having a blast ❤
So far! -J
Love the Rockies! Most Canadian adults I know hate ketchup chips. Try dark chocolate Kitkat, also try SunChips.

If you can find any, you should try a Nanaimo Bar. Named after a City on Vancouver Island.
I'll keep my eyes out! -J
You have to try the coffee crisps candy bars, I love them, wish we could get them in the US. I preferred Peyto Lake over Lake Louise! We thought Banff was so much better then Glacier! Traveling the same way as you guys towards Alaska.

We'll give it a go sometime! -J
Coffee crisps are my favorite Canadian candy.
We'll save them for you! Neither of us can stand anything with the flavor of coffee. 😭 (Please don't hold it against us!) -J
Smart Balance has a peanut butter they call “Chunky”. It even has flaxseed. Kind of pricey at $6, so we just go with whatever the store brand is.
😁
Try Mexican Chili chips by Old Dutch. I don't know if they are only a Canadian snack but I've only ever seen that flavor in Canada. One of my all time favorites.
Also, try ketchup chips by Lays or Old Dutch. Maybe you'll find those more appealing than the crisps. I love ketchup chips but it seems like it's an acquired taste.
"seems like it's an acquired taste"
That means I would have to try them multiple times....why....why would one do that. 😂
We are going to try one of the other brands on our way back to the states!
LOL
Going north you can always find a tire shop but not always your tire size.
All Dressed chips are delicious!
But Kit Kat shows up in lots of flavors at our local grocery store these days. Usually "seasonal" ones.
Agreed! They're awesome!
Ok...when you say "Lots" are we talking.... 7-10 flavors? Cause it seemed to me in Canada that there was a whole aisle of kitkat. 😂 I'm going to try to remember to take photos on our way back. My memory is probably exaggerating it just a touch. lol -J
@@OpenRoading I usually see 3-5 different flavors at the checkout in the grocery store. So, not "lots" but more than 1-2.
Adding butter tarts to the list for a future part 2 this fall! And I suppose we'll have to try one of the other brands of chips.... -J
