Those are some of the most blood curdling screams I've heard in a film. It's made worse by the fact that you actually can't even see what they're doing to him.
I’ve heard about that technique in an interview with Brian de Palma. Leaving a horrible moment to the viewer’s imagination is worse than actually seeing and knowing what’s happening.
The Old Man knew what he was talking about when he said "Get Out While You Still Can"...Intellegence warfare with USSR during the Cold War turned the CIA into a monster as depicted in Oliver Stone's magnificent movie "Nixon"...
Just think, this is what they admit. This is what they allow to be televised, to be broadcast in theaters. Imagine what they don’t admit, what they won’t allow on TV, in books and movies. If we knew the half of it, the Day of the Rope wouldn’t be an obscure fictional reference, it would be a recognized holiday.
Those were some intense screams. Ive only heard something slightly similar in actual murder videos. I'm almost wondering if the stock sounds came from a real source......

They weren't ever going to let him "retire". Which is where the line "he knew too much" came from. He had a choice to die on the street, or die in his home. Either way, it ended with his death.
The reason for his murder is stated in a scene where this guy that consoles Edward with a: I'm sorry, he knew too much, gives Edward a booked owned by his father first, and then he tells Edward that the old timer is not being discreet enough when in bed with his partners. He kept saying too much to get someone he wanted. They basically wanted him to cool the fuck down.
Don’t think his first girlfriend Laura would be a good choice of CIA wife due to her ability to read lips. Still would have been a better result than his second choice though!!
He was sodomized with a baton (hence the screaming) for being gay and bringing shame on the British Government. I think they finished it with a throat slit then dumped him in the river. Very graphic scene directed by the great De Niro.
This is a deep state movie. At this part, he is in UK learning the tradecraft from what today be considered MI6 to bring back home and form the OSS, which would eventually become CIA.
First, let me say that the CIA historian hates this movie and has a 45 min. TH-cam talk on what's wrong with it. Also, Matt Damon's character was based loosely on Jesus James Angleton who, as a result of moles in Western intelligence, saw moles everywhere and turned the agency upside with his paranoia.

We're all bootmakers to kings. Chilling
The old timer knew what was coming and took it like a man.
eh, I wouldn't say those screams were of a man looking death in the face and accepting it.
@@ralphintheshadowrealm7002 Spoken like your typical Nursing Home Resident abuser.
@Ralph In the Shadow Realm you can meet death with courage but the act of being killed can still be painful and shocking.
He was brave bc he thought those men were Chippendale dancers taking him to a baby oil nude wrestling competition
That, is true, it's way in cloak and dagger and the old, two step. Mahalo!

They could have gone with a double tap to the head, quick and painless, but no...
Those were wails. That’s why it’s so sad.

Maybe they unfortunately really stabbed

Nixon is pretty damn underrated
The realities of espionage and counter intelligence are frightful to many. But reality is reality
RIP Sir Michael Gambon (1941-2023).
Rest in Peace Michael Gambon.
Really love Lee pace character in this ..waiting in shadows competitive
Прекрасный фильм, смотрела с большим удовольствием. Спасибо создателям!

*Get out of here with that "Day of the Rope" shit.*
Who is "they"?
The CIA did not make this movie. A bunch of people in Hollywood financed by big banks did.
I am walking around this apartment and I am still alive signed
Greatest spy movie ever made.

What did the comment about tying the shoe mean ?
It was a little nod the old man did showing that he knew he was about to be killed. Basically to show he accepted his fate and wasn’t afraid.
He was a loose end that needed to be tied off
He had a choice to retire and live. Why did he choose death??
he knew to many horrible things to live

@@CephlonMayngrum what horrible things
Either choice was death. Quietly in his home (cyanide) or painfully on the street (beaten to death by a mugger).
The OSS is like the Yellowstone Ranch, and this how the OSS takes you to the train station…

Second wife wasn't really a choice.
@@patrickmugalula4210He started seeing her while already seeing the first one lol.
It's one of more terrible scenes in this film

WHO KNOWS HOW THE KILLERS KILL THE TEACHER?
strangled or stabbed
@@CephlonMayngrum he sure done a lot of screaming to be getting strangled.
Stabs
I always thought they shoved his cane up his ass the way he was screaming and how the show them dumping it last into the water.
I always thought they used his stick… in an unconventional way let’s say
Isn’t that a British problem why is the US involved?
they are allies. cia and interpol

Unless presumed to already be giving secrets to the enemy I don't think the British or Americans would kill people. But anyway this is a great movie.
Naive fool! Lol. Think about how many innocent civilians they kill just with drone bombs alone. Whole wedding parties even.
How do you feel about this statement now in 12/2020?
@@tarski3939 is there a news story you're referring to?
Right, they only chemically castrate them
