    Good video. At 70 years young I'm stuck with a pipe and snap binders. If you are hauling rubber tired equipment they work ok. Use to be required to have all binders on drivers side. I like your new trailer and binders.
    Thanks for sharing!!!

    I ran speed binders when I was hauling rental equipment for a living and they were awesome. The only reason I have ratchet binders on my personal trailer at home is because they were gonna throw the ones my speed binders replaced away and I'm too cheap to buy speed binders for a trailer I don't use too much.

    Chain anchored 2” ratchet straps are easily tied around stake pockets and for tie down to the load . Paint a different color on the edge of your chain ratchet binder to easily distinguish the pull to tighten direction procedure .

    The first white one is made for Air Force aluminum cargo pallets. With the hook integral to the ratchet it makes them difficult to use in most cases. You can even see the way you use em they don't fully close and latch.

    If you use the snap binders a lot, you know the tricks on how to use them. My favorite use is for securing a small stack of dunnage on the deck. But for now my snap binder days are over... A very bumpy Mississippi road bounced my toolbox door open and now someone else is using all the binders, chains and coil racks I had inside. As for the tail of the chain, I use a bungee to secure them. Running flatbed means having to tarp so you carry 50 bungees at a minimum.

    we still like the original speed binders Dirt Perfect has, however they got bought out and are under a new company and manufacturer, not as impressed. we will keep using the originals but most likely wont go with any new ones. Mainly customer service issues and we have heard some quality control issues from people that have purchased them since the company was sold. that mecalac is a cool machine man. stay safe.

      Well 💩, one of my speed binder has a good wobble, not sure if it’s the new or old version. I did email customer service to see if I could get a new tube and they said “it happens”. Sucks they sold out.

    Without watching first, I like the clamp style binder. I’ve always used a pipe to close it and wrap extra chain around it. The screw type is fine, keep some lube handy and it works more easily.

    I hauled and installed fencing for 15 years, primarily vinyl and chainlink.
    Dealung with material especially in bundles.
    How many times have you seen a bunk of lumber that is missing boards in the center( i have probably 15x personaly)?
    Vinyl will crimp,but will loosen.
    Chainlink tubing on a steel deck trailer is slicker then owl snot.
    When material is on dunnage it gives you the option of 1 wrap at the front or rear,if a multiple wrap front of front...and rear of rear.
    For basic strapping ,DOT have pulled me over for 2 straps on 12 ft material..he wanted straps every 4ft...so have enough to satisfy them + 2-3 extra.
    For straps.... stand on passenger side and hook dummy end +3 ft more than you need, then throw the ratchet across to drivers side.
    The weight of the ratchet keeps tension till you get all thrown,if a strap comes loose you don't want to jump over a bumper pull /under a gooseneck to re-tighten from passenger side.
    After throwing all straps,walk back and tighten.
    For a specific equipment you should have it figured to a science.
    I had 2 hydraulically driven "easy augers" and used 7 trailers.
    Both machines had snap binders attached to both machines,and all 7 trailers had 3 links of chain for the binder at the exact point it was used at.
    Ramps in front,wheelbarrow encapsulating a 14/8 inch auger tied down with extra tail of front strap.
    For hauling a tractor stopped 3 inches from where it needed to be,hooked 2 chains at rear and drove the last 3 to tighten.
    Then ratchet binders going to the front.
    If you do the same thing every day and it takes extra time,you are not an operator...just a flunky.

    I watched a transport driver trying to chain my Telehandler down let the cheater bar slip out of his hand at full tension and it flew about 30 feet high over the trailer across the road.

    Seen those speed binders on your channel when you first did a video on them, went out bought 8 of them to replace what I had an absolutely love them! They have made my life so much easier and faster chaining down equipment! One thing to maybe check out would be some ratchet straps from USA Ratchet. I bought some of those and they are great! With those there is no tails to worry about comes on a reel hard to explain the setup but they are also super nice and give a nice clean look with like I said no tails to worry about doing up after tightening.

    I agree with the binder assessment. One point is the speed binders, If you don't use the binders for 2 years, they will freeze up. I'm going to EZ Binders less work than all the rest.

      Think canada didn't like the hooks outside the rub rail had to be inside the rub rail. Can you turn the speed binders with a normal ratchet or wreach, have a12volt inverter in in the truck anyway. Seen someone siad the cam snap over binders are no allowed they stink anyway wounder where that is

    That was a cool intro! Those speed binders are the way to go but for now I’ve been rolling with the conventional manual ratcheting ones. They work well but after a full day of loading and unloading machinery, they kinda wear you out.

      I have been wondering how tight the speed ones actually pull. Would be cool to see a video with one hooked to a scale and do that VS ratchet one. But it appeared in this video he got the speed one tighter then ratchet

    The real issue with anything outside the rub rail is that a side swipe accident can remove one or all tie downs on that side of the truck bed/trailer in an instant. And, there's no legal exemption for over width.

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not illegal to chain like this. 99.999% of trucks on the road are chaining like this. I was just inspecting by DOT and they didn’t say anything was wrong and had two machines on deck tied down like this. If you get hit hard enough to rip the binder or rail off you have some serious problems and the location of the hooks won’t matter

  • @paultasker9759
    @paultasker9759 ปีที่แล้ว

    I run the regular ratchet binders. Nothing against the speed binders. Just don’t feel the need to upgrade unless I was loading/unloading machines all day. Plus my machine is small so I only use 2 binders total anyway.

    But I don’t chain every day, if I chained everyday I’d be buying the speeders
    I don’t use the straps with chains, think if it was to be used with something u don’t wanna scratch paint and there’s not hook spots

    As far as anything over 102 securement doesn't count as long as it's not part of the load you can have it overhang and as far as straps and everything being on the inside of the rubber that's just like if you side swipe something less chances of it you know breaking your securement and losing the load

    • @scottdm9707
      @scottdm9707 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree that it's not a great idea to have hooks/straps outside the rub rail even if it isn't illegal. Seems like common sense to avoid the risk of having the load become unsecured if the trailer is side swiped.

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems like you have other problems if you’re getting ran into and should pull over asap. Have to pretty much total the trailer to rip the rail off
