I was in high school.when this came out. My boyfriend and I played this song over and over and got married in 1965. We fell in love with these guys. They were awesome! My ex-first husband is deceased. Everytime hear the Righteous Brothers my heart aches! ❤❤❤

They are BLUE EYED SOUL. Saw them live in San Diego in 1965 with the love if my life. They were amazing. Came out wearing their tuxedos & had an orchestra. Totally class guys. Bobby Hatfield singing hi and Bill Medley going low.

Some black soldiers heard them and when the two were done the black guys said that it righteous brothers. So after that they sang as blue eyed soul "Righteous Brothers". They got their name from when they were performing for some black marines at El Toro marine base. One of the marines, after their performance said "That was righteous brothers", and they kept it.......it was a good call and aptly stated.

This Song is next to Stairway To Heaven the most played song in the History of Radio. The Folks who wrote it are the Husband/Wife Team of Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil and produced by Phil Spector. Cher made her bones along with sonny singing backup. They got their start singing at Navy Bases in San Francisco, and the Audience who had a large majority of Black Sailors would clap and say "That's Righteous Brothers" thus the name stuck. If you can, listen to Soul & Inspiration. The Show they are on is called Shindig that was parodied as Shinrock on The Flintstones. It was a common practice to do a Rock & Roll Show back in the day. Others were American Bandstand, Where The Action Is (An Outdoor Version Of Bandstand), Hollywood A Go Go, Hullaballoo, Shebang, Shindig, Shivaree & The Lloyd Thaxton Show. The Ladies in The Back are The Dancers on The Show, the fellows on the left are The Wellingtons and the right are the Blossoms.

This was the most played song of the 20th century - really. It was such a hard song to do that there were few cover versions of it done. But one was by the duo Hall and Oats in the 1980's. In 1970 Elvis Presley did this song in his concerts and it is contained on his concert album (and video) "That's the way it is." He sings this being backed up by a trio of black female singers who were called The Sweet Sensations. One of those girls is the mother of Whitney Houston.

The black marines in Harlem heard them play and say these brothers are Righteous. Hence the name. They did a song with The Blossoms all female group. You will definitely get the blue eyed soul vibe with them. 🙌

Definitely check out the 1965 live performance of unchained melody. You will only hear the blonde guy with the higher voice. The guys usually each did 1 or 2 songs where they did it as a solo. Both guys wanted to do unchained melody so they flipped a coin. Bobby Hatfield won. It was a live performance on the Andy Williams show, and beside his singing partner Bill being in the audience, Bobby's Mom was there too. He used to get stage fright and was REALLY nervous that night. But you will see on that Video that he killed it. It has been called the best live pop performance ever. Check that one out. Also unchained melody was used in the score of the movie Ghost, and this song that you just did is the song Tom Cruise was singing in the bar to try to pick up the girl in the movie Top Gun. Have fun with it.

There have been many that have thought these guys looked different than they sounded. There is the phrase "blue-eyed soul" which came into being because of these guys.
