Well i sorta cheated on my '06, my fuel pump was becoming intermittent which i found were the pins on the fuel pump connector were intermittently losing contact, i cut a square hole in the floor board under the back seat over the fuel pump, made it big enough if i ever need to remove the pump, i turned the cutout piece into a hatch, i disconnected the connector on the fuel pump and pushed some "conductive graphite grease" into the pins, pluged it back in,installed my hatch with the carpret cutout over it, its never had a problem again since 2012.
On the two connectors you called alligator clips, I saw a Chrisfix video a while back where he cleaned sugar out of a gas tank and you don't need to slide the clip out of the connector, you just push in on the spine that connects the two parts that slide into the connector and you can pull it off.
It blew my mind. I've broken hundreds of those fuckers using a pocket knife, flat head or some other improper tool trying to get those apart. Thanks for the short and simple video showing how easy it is.
Thank you sooo much awesome video. As a female I believe it's important to have some knowledge due to mechanics low balling us and betraying our trust.
Is there a way to make that float give a more accurate reading? My pump is the original and the gas gauge has never been correct. 50% full is closer to 75% full.
Question: prior to removing any fuel lines or etc, did the vehicle need to be de-pressurized prior to the fuel pump's removal? Or if that only for when you need to remove the fuel rails? Kind of a DIY home mechanic and just trying to gain more knowledge since I'm looking to be doing one on my girls 05' Xterra.
Thanks for your suggestion. Sometimes people don't want to hear the person talking much ... rather they're focused on the visuals to get an idea as to what it'll take to do the repair. But I'll keep you suggestion in mind in future videos ... thanks!
Whats this big hose i have leak on that should the tak be fully empty or i can replace it even with truck is half full 🤔 is it vent hose? I mean can i i replace it with heater hose if i didnt find now
Anyone know avg cost (parts + labor) to replace fuel tank? I broke 3 bolts holding the gasket down on sender-unit on fuel tank... don't want use a bolt extractor above fuel tank.. I bet they'll say I have to replace fuel tank
Then just go under the back seat and cut a hole in the floor. The only down side is less room to get that damn lock ring off and on. And need to be able to fabricate a panel to go back on. However, saved tons of time, even more if it goes out again.
It is identical to the 08 Frontier I'm working on. Im also replacing a relay that's driver side up under the dash on the left. Light blue cap on relay.
Thank you so much for this video brother, I'm about to attempt this on the weekend, what tools are needed for it as far as taking off those hoses? Thanks in advance you definitely got a sub from me!
Great stuff. Would you or anyone here happen to know if the inside of the tank has some kind of tighten screw around the white ring where the gas fill hose meets the tank? My tank is leaking from that white ring area around the tank where the fuse hose meets the tank. Some say it does and others say it does not. If anyone can confirm this, it would be appreciated. Thanks for sharing such an instructional video Brother 🤗👍🏻
No, there's nothing to tighten from the inside. The white tube the filler hose connects to on the fuel tank is not replaceable. You need to replace the entire fuel tank, sorry to say. I got one from a u-pull it for $100. Ours is leaking in the same spot due to the rear tank strap breaking and the tank hanging by the filler hose. It must stress that white tank fitting and cause a leak. I read some people tried to seal it, all unsuccessful. Hopes this helps someone looking for this answer.
@@mikethomason338 I heard you can solder it while the tank is full? You will never have to worry about a leaking tank again in any car, it's a permanent fix to all the problems one might have 😂😂 JK Don't ever try this, this goes for anyone reading it, it's just a joke, very dangerous.
Hi. How did you get to a conclusion that you needed to change the fuel pump? My 2011 xterra is shutting down while driving. Sometimes choking for a second and then comes back. Sometimes the car dies completely and I have to hit the ignition again to restart on the side of the road.
Could be multiple symptoms. Going up an incline or hill under load and the pump can't build or maintain enough pressure to deliver the needed fuel. At a stop light, suddenly acceleration and the engine coughs. Slow, gradually acceleration, there's no problem. You can always get a T connector fitting that can hook up with your fuel line and a fuel pump gauge. Fuel pressure should at least be over 45 psi.
@@hardlymovingpro im so sorry to bug you but do I need nuts with those 17mm bolts? I'm just trying to figure all this out haha I think I found the straps.. But the dealership wants way to much for those 3 bolts
To save money, I think you could just replace the pump inside the assembly. The thing is, there's a lot of assemblies out there for sale that are pretty cheap unless you go for a OEM Denso unit.
How long did this take you? I'm getting ready to have my gas tank replaced and while I'm at it I'm changing my pump and filters. Nothing is wrong with them but.. just wondering about how much labor this should cost. My daughter's boyfriend is going to do it and he's telling me to pay him whatever and I'm clueless to how much to give him any ideas?
Assuming he needs to drop the tank, I'd be generous with the labor time of 4 hours @ $50 per hour for a total of $200 labor time. If he knows what he's doing, shouldn't take him more than 2.5 hours. If he has the model where access is under the rear seat, I'd give him 1.5 hours. Good luck!
They're called Fuel Line Pliers or Fuel Clamp Disconnect Pliers. A link to the tool is provided in the "Show More" description area of this video. Hope this helps.
Hey man, thanks for the video. I was wondering, would this process be similar for a 1998 nissan pathfinder? I believe I have a leak in tank and I have no idea how to replace or even look at the thing.
Thanks for your comment. Yes ... the replacement should be similar if there's no access panel under the rear seat cushion to get to the fuel pump assembly ... typically found in passenger cars but not in trucks.
I think that tool would work to take the back of my watch off so I can change the battery. On second thought now that I took my glasses off I guess I need a smaller tool. 🤓
Minute 7;15.oops I forgot that step guess what happened? Yup, hose popped off and sprayed gas everywhere, had to lower the tank back, disconnect everything and put it back on with clip. 😂.was faster the second time I did it.
it always looks easy until you start trying to do it then you realize it's too hard and you're fucked with a big mess in your driveway and needing a tow truck
Had that happen a few times in my life. The usual cause was I didn't have the right tools. Also, when I'm trying to figure out how to remove something, I'm also thinking about how difficult it would be to put it back together.
One of the best tutorials on how to drop the fuel tank.

Sorry ... wouldn't know.
Yes, my '06 didnt have one, so i made one.
That first hose you removed, can you stick a siphon through that? I just want to siphon my tank
That won't work. It's a output port connected to the fuel pump.
@@hardlymovingpro ok thanks, wasn't sure, so do I have to remove the tank to get the fuel out then?
Yes
I took the hose off the tank and put a hose in on my 08 Frontier. There the same.

I just pull the line off and let any residual fuel pressure leak/spray out. Others remove the fuel pump fuse and run the car till it stalls.
@@hardlymovingpro
Why not just open the gas cap and let pressure out that way while working on it
Yes remove the fuse for the fuel pump then cut car on wait a few seconds then it will cut of by it self

If the car manufacturer provided a service access hole to the fuel tank.
