Linda didn't need a meat suit, leotard or whatever singers today parade around in - she was a singer who stepped up to the mic in maybe jeans, shirt, pair of boots and a flower in her hair. Then came that voice from heaven which she could push real hard or throttle down whisperly soft. Truly an American treasure. To just understand how beautifully enchanting she was, check out a Johnny Carson show she guested on in the 80's. Carson had starlettes galore on his show throughout the years no big deal. However that night Johnny got lost in those big brown eyes beaming in on him - left him stammering like a school boy. The poor guy was mesmerized - check it out.
Fun fact: In the 1960's Linda (and members of her band) once pushed their broken-down car down LaBrea Ave. in Hollywood (on their way to Capitol Records). Image seeing this giant talent her pushing her car down the avenue !!!!
Without a doubt, she was one of the greatest female singers of all time.
Linda Ronstadt was really authentic as she still today and, yes, she was a free spirit respecting her wishes as much she respected another.
I was soooo in love with her when I was a kid. I'm now an old man, and am grateful for the wonderful memories of her songs and most importantly, her magnificent vocals.

I had the honor of seeing her perform at Lake Tahoe in 1982. Her voice was strong and pure and she sang with incredible passion. It was like being serenaded by an angel. One of the greatest performances I’ve ever seen.

I worked with Linda in 1977. There are many TH-cam videos of her live performances in Atlanta that year. Those recordings were made using my Artisan Mobile remote recording truck. I was only 22 at the time and I confess I was absolutely smitten with her beauty and amazing talent.
Rough?? She polished her singing throughout her career. She studied, practiced, and learned her stuff.
Her voice was unsurpassed.
She is fair dinkum sublime. Easy on the eyes her heart-attack good looks matched with an astonishing voice(🐺whistle) .

You asked if anyone knew of any songs Linda Ronstadt wrote. I don't know if anyone else has mentioned these but I am aware of three that she co-wrote:
- "Lo Siento Mi Vida", co-written with Kenny Edwards and her father, Gilbert Ronstadt. This is on her album "Hasten Down The Wind" (1976).
- "Try Me Again", co-written with Andrew Gold, also on "Hasten Down The Wind".
- "Winter Light", co-written with Eric Kaz and Zbigniew Antoni Preisner - on her albums Winter Light (1993) and Dedicated To The One I Love (1996).
I am nearly 65 years old and, although I was aware of her music from radio play during the 1970s and '80s, I was never into it - wrong genre for me at that time of my life and the ignorance of youth making me fail to appreciate then what is clear to me now. I have recently, courtesy of TH-cam's algorithm I guess, come to appreciate her music and now realise what an incredible talent I missed. Fortunately, although her voice has been taken from her, she has left a wonderful canon of recordings that we can still enjoy.
I have listened to every one of her solo albums (including the Spanish ones that I don't understand) from Hand Sown, Home Grown (1969) to Hummin' To Myself (2004) as well as Adieu False Heart (2006), her exquisite collaboration with Ann Savoy, which I believe was the last album she recorded before she retired. The diversity of musical styles over her career is truly impressive and, although some of the more pop-oriented songs are a bit dated now, there is nothing I wouldn't listen to. That voice was magnificent and, more importantly, authentic. She had power, control, clear enunciation and she sang as if she genuinely felt every emotion expressed in the music and lyrics - that hits me straight in the heart. Maybe I've just become soft as have aged, but I love it! I also think that her voice improved as she grew older, more experienced and perhaps more confident.
I'm about Linda's age. I was crazy about her during the 70s! But weren't we all! Her music, her looks, her hair! She had it all!
My sister knew her. My sister’s boyfriend was a lawyer for some of the music acts. She fixed me up with a blind date with her. I drove all the way from Monterey to Van Nuys. By the time I got there my sister said they had an argument and the date was off.😮😢
For me it's her range ! She can go from the most powerful singing to the lowest whisper imaginable with the greatest of ease ! Then there's the styles and genres which are so natural . I believe Linda Ronstadt is right up there with the very best of them .... EVER !
Summer of 67 was outta sight. The future Eagles backed her in '71 or '72 I followed every appearance she had in my town for several years.
Linda was pure talent. SUCH an incredible voice! Her singing really hits home with me on every song.

She contributed so much to country music in her songs and promotion of the genre. On her own merit they need to induct her into the Country Music Hall of Fame THIS year. Do it so she can enjoy the honor while she is still with us. Members Dolly and Emmylou have been in since 1999 & 2000 respectively. Induct her and reunite the Trio in permanent honor. (Can we petition?).

Pure unadorned pipes. A rare combination of power and tenderness. Much more than her considerable hits - a songwriter's champion and a mesmerizing Live vocalist surrounded by devoted talent. In a dirty rotten business she remains beloved.
I’ve been listening to Linda Ronstadt and loving each, and everyone of her albums that I collected over the last 50 years. I followed her journey through so many different genres, and was so impressed that she would take all of them on and do an excellent job. I got to see her perform once live at the Hollywood bowl; I thought she was rather shy on stage actually. She didn’t do a lot of “patter” as the main performer often does with their audience. But she was a generous bandmember, and one of the most un-diva like of the women who have had soaring careers in music. That’s because she saw herself as part of the band, one of the boys. Although she got popular doing rock ‘n’ roll, I always thought her strength was country western and of course the songs that hit you in the gut where those sad, sad, bluesy songs of someone desperate for love, or addiction, or loneliness. She sang the songs with such empathy, I think my favorite album is “hasten down the wind,” although I love the Trio album, and her albums with Nelson Riddle covering the American songbook. My mother sang on the radio when she was a child, and she sang those songs, and when I sing them, I always think of my mother. I learned how to sing from Linda Ronstadt, Karen Carpenter, Barbra Streisand, and other amazing, female vocalists. By the way, JD Souther said that, although she is not known for being a creator of songs, he actually felt that she was his partner in the songs that he wrote for her as much as any one could be. She was great at picking songs that would really feature her voice, and once she picked them, she never phoned in her performance. Dolly Parton said that she was most exacting of high standards working with her on trio. Finally, Linda Ronstadt was very generous to other musicians, both in terms of promoting the guys have became the Eagles, and also inviting Emmylou Harris to live with her after Emmylou’s lover died of an overdose. She also really talked up Emmylou and got her back working. And one of the documentaries recently about Linda Ronstadt Emmylou is literally brought to tears talking about how sad she feels that Linda can no longer saying. She’s had strong, long-standing relationships with her fellow singers and musicians, and only Bernie Leadon has talk shit about her lol.
She was 19 or 20 when I was born but in 1979 she was everywhere in my world. I still have my teenage poster of her. She is a dear soul who gave me hope and comfort through the bad years of abuse by stepparents. Her voice carries me away, still.

As a kid in the 70’s I was absolutely in love with Linda… but then again so was every other male in the world! She was such a gorgeous and talented woman.
Her album with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra was exceptional. She could sing any genre.

Her music, and by extension the whole late 60's - mid 70's "country rock" scene brings me back to when I was a kid. My parents really loved music and they were into CR as it was on the radio a lot also. Linda has a beautiful voice, and what a beautiful woman. Wish her well.
I like this video alot and it looks like there is recent activity on it... so a follow up...the last Ronstadt full "Rock Concert" I could find with a "Rock" song set was 05 July 91 however she did do numerous scaled back smaller venues...everything after that she sang mostly country, light opera or Mexican...all the 2000's stuff was very low vocal stuff...Now it has been said she was done with Rock and belting out Heat Wave, Your No Good, Tumbling Dice ect ect ect in the early 90s which explains the albums Winter light, Feels Like Home and Ran in the mid 90s...
What is considered her LAST pure Rock Album is " Get Closer" in Sept 82 then she drastically changed her Genre for almost 8 yrs until "Cry like the Rain" which was a pop/duets album...I have said in other videos I think she was having issues with her voice before 2000 and was trying not to push it...after her voice broke in 2000 she changed the way she was singing all together to prolong and hopefully fix her voice...
Personally, I think she was having issues in "Ran" you can hear it on a couple of songs in the high range but that could also be because of age as she was over 50 at the time and had been singing "Full Throttle" ie: belting them out, for well over 30 yrs...She has a nasty disease which was misdiagnosed at first but was never really seriously addressed in the early 2000s when her voice first broke until it was too late...Well I may post more later but it is a very sad situation all around.
btw I am by no means a Linda Ronstadt expert so some of this info maybe wrong but there is NUMEROUS articles video and just GREAT stuff on her out there probably more than anybody I have ever even heard of...she will be greatly missed when she is gone...THX for reading

She only co-wrote three songs herself. Lo siento mi vida, Try Me Again and Winter Light. I have all of her albums and was a huge fan and still am.
I have her album of Mexican standards. Can't understand a word she is singing but it doesn't matter. Absolutely phenomenal album. Her Padre must be so proud of her.

I took a lot of teasing over my love for “country music”. But the truth is, steel guitar had already invaded my brain via CSNY’s De ja vu album! I’m a rock and blues guy, at heart, but old country is still in there - especially the “out law” players and the other regulars at “the Armadillo” in Austin!

Gorgeous unadorned important pipes surrounded by devoted talent. Adored and beloved - rarest of songbirds. Powerful and tender with generous deep musical chops. And they still make stuff up about her. For me Ronstadt is the only female in constant rotation. Rockin' or croonin' ... sigh.
Enjoyed the video! Saw her at the newly operating Grand Ole Opry building at Opryland USA in Nashville Tennessee in 1975.

Streaking was a thing back then and a guy with all his clothes in a bundle ran down the side of the auditorium and up a side staircase on the stage and behind the curtain. The audience started laughing and clapping. She got a puzzled smile on her face not knowing what had just happened. What a concert!

I had read where Linda wrote "Lo Siento Mi Vida" with her father. I played that song at my husbands funeral. We both liked it alot. Still miss him, he was a fan of the Eagles music too.

As a kid growing up in the 1970's I had the biggest crush on Linda Ronstadt, I bet she was the heart throb for many.
A woman ahead of her time! Loved listening to her even today!
I was fortunate enough to attending high school in So CA in the early 70s. Linda and Jackson Browne would play at many of the colleges like UC Santa Barbara and several of the Junior Colleges in Orange County in support of George McGovern’s Presidential run. I was able to see her about 12 times over the next 10 years. Seeing her in some of those small venues was incredible. It was criminal it took so long for her to be inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. Just shows how stupidly political the Hall is. One of the great female voices of all time. Her range was insane.
For many of us we grew up listening to, watching, and admiring Linda Ronstadt. This unparalleled singer and her music became our companions as our lives changed. She was no angel and neither were we. She paid and is paying now for mistakes made. We all do. I believe that when her time comes a special place in heaven will be reserved. God Bless Linda Ronstadt now and forever…
I had the good fortune and honor to be a session player on an album that Linda's lover and manager, John Boylan, produced on CBS/Epic back in the early 80s. He spoke so respectfully and fondly about Linda that it appeared he still carried a torch. Well, who wouldn't; lucky guy to have been able to date her for years, produce and manage her career, and even put together her backup band, that just happened to go on to become The Eagles!
I learned so much in those several months that I worked with John, and consider it to be a real high point in my own musical career, which spanned several decades and many styles of music. I wish I'd had the chance to meet Linda, and even play on some tracks for her, but c'est la vie, you can't always get what you want... :)

Linda was actively involved off stage & among the virtual fraternity of both struggling & up & coming singer-songwriters of the '70s LA music scene... so much so, that she was generous to cover & propel unknown songwriters from obscurity into recognition with her vocal interpretation. One such songwriter was Warren Zevon & her covers of his "Carmelita" & "Mohammed's Radio" are sonic artistry.
Linda will always be an iconic music star, God Bless her always.

Stanley Kaufman was a movie critic who could be very tough on actors and movies he didn't like or couldn't meet his strict standards. He was insulting and cruel. That is not my intent here.. it's just, to be honest, to provide a laugh; a laugh of horror I imagine from those of you who like Linda Ronstadt.
Different Drum, Long, Long Time, Ooo baby Baby, and Someone to Lay Down Beside Me were all good and songs she didn't destroy .. she did a fine job with them despite her limited singing and shouting talents. She wails away with her bossy Aretha Franklinish (she's next at 23 - just kidding!) vocals and clogs up Smokey Robinson's tearful "Tracks of My Tears" though this one is OK. After those songs, I didn't really like almost everything else by her but that's my reward for my quick hands to the radio switch in the car. I was always a very fast puncher in college with fists like steel and it came in handy with the radio turn-offs. So I don't know her songs well. Linda could take a mediocre Warren Zevon song and make it bad. As John Lennon wrote: So the birds in the skies would be sad and lonely, If they knew that I'd soften up my review of her only, They'll be sad, If I'm not bad to her. 'Cause I know my captured audience here on won't leave me 'cause I told them I've no intention of lettin' them go just as long as you let me know I can be bad to her (linda) for this bit.
"Love Is a Rose" is one of Neil Young's worst songs and she plucked that one like a thorn. Nicolette Larson asked Neil if she could do his "Lotta Love" and it was very good and produced better than almost any Ronstadt song for my taste. I can imagine with dread the horrors Linda Ronstadt would've committed if she sang this somewhat tender song but it's not diva enough for her to sing. Blue Bayou is a corny-sounding dud of Roy Orbison so Linda leaped in for a shallow swim. As Paul Westerberg sang in an OK song of his: "On your mark here I am. I`m your spark Runaway wind. And you run your mouth like a shallow noisy stream. I see what she became and try to hide it..) Or to misquote a better Westerberg tune, Achin to Be: "I look right through her Baby doll, check your cheek". She picked the worst song of Buddy Holly and the Crickets and homogenized it like a turkey baster. And it had heart when Buddy sang it at least. Poor poor pitiful Buddy.
Besides song selection, I don't like her clucking singing style. I can't say she doesn't have a good voice. To be honest, I have admitted that I don't think a good voice is a requirement for most songs and would go with a decent voice singing a good song over a great voice singing an OK song any day ("Any Day" was a great song from Chuck Jackson that wouldn't have met Linda's soft, sappy requirements). She often selected songs that weren't particularly good but yes they were accessible to the vacuous music public desperate for mediocrity and country-pop tunes that one could almost imagine in show tunes and musicals. Linda, when asked about her 28 studio albums, said "I don’t like any of them". If she said that, how am I being the least bit harsh?

Sometime around 1980 I was in a Denver area shopping mall and was waiting near a shoe kiosk after just buying a winter coat. A note pinned on the wall caught my eye, and it was a friendly note of thanks written by Linda to the person who sold her some shoes. Apparently she wasn't just the great singer and beauty we all know her to have been.
I grew up in the 70s and 80s Linda ronstadt's music was awsome and the background music of my youth. She was always on the radio.
Linda and her father wrote “Los siento Mi Vida” and she alone wrote “Try Me Again” which was on the “Hasten Down the Wind” album. That’s about it for her songwriting.

I was just about to post those. They're both really good songs. She later said that she just never had much drive or interest in writing, and was all for performing. I especially love Lo Siento Mi Vida.
In 1976, I turned 13 and became interested in music. I also became interested in girls. Farrah was, is the biggest heart throb of my life. Linda was my "One I would take home to mama".
In my teens I was totally in love with her. In love with both her looks and her voice, which was equally as beautiful as her face.

Linda's voice is a huge part of the sound track of my life. So many of her contemporaries were lost to drugs, I'm so glad that she kept her head about her. It's a cruel bit of fate that her own body silenced her. She does have a very pleasant seeking voice and she remains humble. Thanks Linda.

Growing up as a teen in the 70s music was great.Especiaally some female singers.i remember one moring putting the radio on and a song called Faithless Love was playing and i thought wow thats beautify and i said to my mom whos that singing.after that i became a fan of Linda Ronstadt's.another favourite of mine Different drums sang by Linda 👍.sadly shes got parkinsins disease but shes still going strong and and her old pal Willie Nelson and others like Dolly Parton; Kristofferson and others who sang and became good pals with her over the years.she to me is a beautiful person. and her voice with such beautiful meaning and listenable to the ear over the years. when i first heard her singing Faithless love will always be my favourite.why?because her voice blue me away to loving her singing.Love You Linda.✌👍🤞👏💖💙🐦🦋🌻🌟⭐🌞🦋

I graduated high school in the late 70s and every guy I knew had a crush on Linda. She is certainly beautiful but her music was unique and unparalleled. IMO Heart like a wheel is one of the greatest albums of all time.

Both good songs.Makes you wonder why she didn't write more.Although, Try Me Again was so honest, Linda never performed it because she did not want the person who inspired the lyrics to know how he had messed her up.

Linda also co-wrote "Winter Light." She had all the tools to be a wonderful songwriter; I just think she just had too many other songs written by others that she "couldn't not sing," and had to record.
So grateful her earlier drug use did not kill her or destroy her "instrument." If I recall correctly, she states in her musical memoir that when a doctor told her cocaine could damage the inner ear, she knew she had to stop. There really was a physical and psychological cost to that lifestyle of non-stop touring.
I understand Ms. Ronstadt's rebellion due to her early Catholic education; I was a child of the 60's who attended Catholic school. Saw much corporal punishment and expeienced unhealthy authoritarian practices to keep classes of 45-50 children in check. Fortunately, the Holy Spirit helped me to know and receive Christ, the perfect messenger, and not reject Him because of so many imperfect ones. Ironically, the beauty, power, and emotion of Ms. Ronstadr's voice and music has deepened my faith in the Creator. I pray for her well-being and comfort as she is now in the twilight of her life and living with a painful degenerative disease.
Not that she ever really cared about awards and recognition as the intrinsic rewards of singing with family, friends, and other artists, were enough for her, we, her fans, are so pleased for all the accolades and honors she has garnered in recent years-the latest of which comes from the recent airing of an HBO show called "The Last of Us." Its third episode was titled "A Long Long Time," and featured prominently this early hit of Linda's. So good to see her "trending," and new fans being welcomed into the fold.
I loved her style of singing. What a powerful, yet beautiful, style. And so beautiful herself.
When I was young back in the 70s, I was a 2nd alto in our highschool a capella choir. I loved Linda so much and I would try really hard to hit the high notes while singing along with her. After a few years, I just gave up trying and accepted that I'm not Linda no matter how hard I tried and I would just put her on the turntable and listen on headphones to the most amazingly pure vocals that gave me goosebumps every single time. That's for the quick history and thanks to Linda for helping my musical taste develop along with her evolutionanary journey!

I'm a huge fan of Little Feat. Linda covered All That you Dream brilliantly and appeared at the Lowell George tribute. My favorite work she did wrt Feats was on the song Voices in the Wind. It always brings tears to my eyes. So beautiful. And I always thought she was the most attractive Lady in the music industry (and that's saying a lot). I have been following Linda's career since about 1975, "Heart Like A Wheel." I bought most of her albums and cd's as they were released, including her Nelson Riddle and her Spanish albums, even though I speak very little Spanish. I read the translations and Linda's voice, allowing me to fully and thoroughly enjoy each song on the album. I have "Canciones De Mi Padre" on several of my playlists.
I will always be grateful to Linda because it was "The Sweetest Gift" on Linda's "Prisoner In Disguise" album from around 1975, is how I got turned on to Emmylou Harris. I love their harmonizing on that song. It's simply beautiful. It's one of the best songs I ever heard in my life. If it didn't, it should have gotten a Grammy. As should have that album.
On Emmylou's "Elite Hotel" album, "Til I Can Gain Control Again", Linda, Faysoux Starling and Emmylou make some gorgeous hamonies. The last minute or so of that song has to be about the most beautiful minute of harmonizing music ever recorded. It's one of those songs that most people don't know about but needs to be heard.
Linda wrote Lo Siento Mi Vida with Kenny Edwards and her dad Gilbert Ronstadt. It's on the album "Hasten Down the Wind".

I've hung albums up on my wall and taken them down to change the scenery. But the only one that stayed up to this day her greatest hits album.
Nice video. As a child of the early 60's I adored Linda through my teenage years to today. Saw her perform live a couple of times and she put it all out every night. She is one of my true rock heroes. And yes, she is so sexy.

I'll be sixty this year. When I think of the greatest female singers of all time, I think Linda. She has incredible control of her voice. Extremely versatile. She can sing Anything. As I think back through the years, I have my own top 5 list of female singers: Linda, Aretha, Dusty Springfield, Celine Dion and Ann Wilson. Janis would be next. Not only was Linda one of the greatest but man, her poster was up on my wall next to Farah Fawcett, Lynda Carter and Barbie Benton. I may not agree with her politics but damn, that girl can frigging sing her ass off. She is THAT good!

Every guy I knew had a crush on Linda back in the day! Tragic the way her disease robbed her of her singing voice. I'm sure she was crushed. I watched the RnR HOF video a while back. Really a loving tribute to an outstanding talent. Another great one RD! Keep rockin!

@@soaringvulture I saw her in that little uniform when she played at the universal amphitheater back in the day when it was an open amphitheater. So please, I got to see her once live in concert. I think it was still in high school!
