    SofaBaton U2 Smart Remote Setup & Adding Devices Demo
    This is my absolute favorite Universal Remote Control. It's nearly perfect. It has all the keys you would expect any remote control to have. The Layout is great for all the keys you use the most. This upgraded U2 version has a strong IR Blaster to easily reach and control your devices from across the room. You can program it using the app which gives you easy access to thousands of devices using the brand and model #. You can customize the keys to your liking and create macros that do multiple things. It's super simple to switch between devices, but you can also control multiple devices from a single remote through customization. The remote is light weight and sits nice in the hands. You don't need to charge it as it runs on batteries which last a long time. It really is an excellent universal remote control and the one I use and love the most. The U2 is an upgraded version from the U1 that has stronger IR blaster, thicker buttons, improved battery compartment and slightly more ergonomic design. This video is an unboxing just to take a close look at the features and the remote.

    Your video was a lifesaver! I was having trouble using the learning feature until I watched your video. The instructions that came with the remote said to press the button you want to program. I thought it meant press the button on the Sofabaton remote! It was not working, of course. You would not believe how much time I spent pressing the Power button on the Sofabaton remote, then aiming my Pioneer remote at the Sofabaton remote and holding the Pioneer Power button down for 15 seconds or more, and then wondering why the app was not saying “Success” or “Failure.” Your video made it clear to press the button on the diagram in the app! I went back to see what the intruction manual actually said, and it does say to press the ICON of the key to be programmed, but I thought they meant the icon displayed on the button on the actual Sofabaton remote. I think it would have been clearer if the instruction manual had said “Press the icon in the diagram on the app that corresponds to the button on the remote you want to program.”
    Question for you-I am using the Sofabaton to replace remotes for Pioneer HDD DVD DVRs which have a large number of custom buttons-far more than the total number of buttons on the Sofabaton remote. (I could not find the models in the code database, so I am using the lesrning feature.) Remotes were discontinued for these DVRs a long time ago and are hard even to find on eBay. I have two original remotes left that work, but I have Pioneer DVRs in four rooms of the house and am having to carry each remote between two rooms, so I wanted to see if the Sofabaton remotes can replace the two Pioneer remotes that stopped working. There are buttons on the Pioneer remote for inserting punctuation in DVD titles, a Clear button which erases recordings on the HDD or DVD but also acts as a delete character button when editing titles on a DVD, Preview/Next buttons which move between chapters and change case when titling DVDs, Step/Slow buttons which move the position in a recording backward or forward one 60th of a second (for precise editing), manual Record and Stop Record buttons, a button which when pressed while watching a recording says to use the image at that point as the thumbnail image for that recording in the menu that displays all the recordings on the HDD or DVD, a button that switches between the HDD and DVD, etc. This is all in addition to all the buttons on the Pioneer remote that have a corresponding button on the Sofabaton remote. The Sofabaton remote only has four extra buttons (the four colored buttons above the number buttons) which is not enough to handle all the extra Pioneer remote buttons.
    The only solution I can think of is to have two Sofabaton remotes for each Pioneer DVR, with many of the second remote’s buttons mapped to the remaining Pioneer buttons that could not be mapped to the colored buttons on the first Sofabaton remote. Fortunately the Sofabaton remote is not very expensive, but I wanted to run this problem past you to see if you have any other ideas, especially since I was not smart enough to understand that I was supposed to be pressing the button to be programmed in the app instead of on the actual Sofabaton remote. Thanks!

      Actually it just occurred to me that instead of having a second Sofabaton remote for each Pioneer DVR, I could just create a second device on one Sofabaton remote that has most of its buttons remapped to handle the excess Pioneer remote buttons that won’t fit on the first device. For the Pioneer DVR in room 1, I could have two devices on the Sofabaton remote titled Pioneer DVR 1A and Pioneer DVR 1B. I only have a few devices in each room that I need to control, so I won’t get anywhere near the maximum of 15 devices on any one Sofabaton remote…

      @@robbiegilbert Exactly! That's what I was going to say... First, that if you don't need the number buttons as numbers you can program # buttons to do different things which gives you 12 extra buttons. But, yeah, you can also just have two different "remotes" programmed into the SofaBaton - name them Pioneer 1, Pioneer 2 and then program all those lesser used secondary commands into the Pioneer 2 remote!

    Can this remote be programmed to operate multiple devices of the same type (not at the same time)? For example have 2 AVRs in the home theatre, be great to use this remote for both of them to switch between the audio setups.

    • @hollywoodfrodo
      @hollywoodfrodo  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can definitely program two or three or four different AVR's into this. The only issue you'd have is if they are the same brand. For example, if you have two SONY AVRs, then good chance they use the same IR Codes so regardless of which one you select, your remote would likely send signals they both interpret. But if they are different brands with unique IR codes, then it should work just fine.

    I just purchased the Sofabaton U2 remote. My question is how do you assign the key for the Home Button from Apple TV? The button powers on and off the unit and also allows you to toggle between apps on the tv and press up to close them (a.e. a swipe up to close the app entirely). This button I cannot seem to program in the remote. On the apple tv remote, the one in all black, it is the top right button that looks like a tv icon. Let me know when you have a chance to review.

    • @hollywoodfrodo
      @hollywoodfrodo  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So I did play with it a little bit last night. I don't think those things are replicable - the menu button serves somewhat the same function as the home button, but doesn't work for the double tap that allows you to go between apps or swipe up to close one fully. And as you'd guess, there's no way to replicate the swiping function either.

    Have you seen this remote successfully used when there are multiple cable boxes in one room? I tried the pre-programed Verizon Fios set up but it's controlling both boxes at once

    • @hollywoodfrodo
      @hollywoodfrodo  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just gonna depend on the boxes. If those two boxes use the same IR Codes (if it's the same cable company then I'm sure they do), then of course anytime it sends one of those codes both boxes will receive it. Less to do with the remote than the boxes themselves. There's no real way around that regardless of the remote you're using.

    I want to use this remote with a Samsung smart FHD tv, spectrum cable box and bose soundbar using the optical port.
    Will it recognize the bose?
    If it set it to tv, can it change the sound while on the tv or do I have to change to the bose. Also, the Samsung has apps for appletv, Netflix and prime. Can I scroll through those apps using this device? Does it have the same functionality for the streaming apps as the Samsung remote. For example: Things like FF, Rev, go back and scroll through the episodes. Can it memorize the remote used by a spectrum cable box.

    • @hollywoodfrodo
      @hollywoodfrodo  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You should be able to accomplish all of that. Once you program each device into the remote, you can then assign keys on one device to control another device. For example when I am on Apple TV to control that device, I can program the volume keys to control volume on my Denon Receiver. You can remap keys to control any device. You can use the navigation keys on the remote to scroll through apps and things on the Samsung TV. You can also use the 4 color code keys or the number keys and program them to do whatever you want or mimic keys from the native samsung remote.

    Hi, isn’t there a hub for the U2? I have my receiver in the closed rack?

    • @hollywoodfrodo
      @hollywoodfrodo  ปีที่แล้ว

      No. The SofaBaton X1 has a Hub that transmits the IR Signal and the remote connects to it via Bluetooth - perhaps that's what you're thinking of. It has a different layout and slightly different functionality than the U1 or U2, but you do use the same app to program it. Here's my review of that one: th-cam.com/video/5wMjAkT9lzA/w-d-xo.html

    I understand how you have to scroll to each device to turn it on and control it. I have a TV, soundbar and Satellite receiver that I have to turn on and off separately. Is there any way to have all three come on together and go off together in one master button?

    • @hollywoodfrodo
      @hollywoodfrodo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, once you have set up your individual devices you can then program any key under any remote to control any feature on any device and you can also set up macros that are a series of commands from one button press. This video goes into that: th-cam.com/video/StqfuiS3tLA/w-d-xo.html

      @@hollywoodfrodo I went thru the video and set up a macro using the TV button at the top of my U2 to turn on and off the three devices I use everyday. The problem is that it turns on and off the set top box and Samsung soundbar but not the TV. I've tried everything I can think of but it only controls two of the three devices. I can turn on and off the TV by scrolling to TV and hitting the power button but I want it to be controlled by the macro button at the top. HELP!!!

    • @hollywoodfrodo
      @hollywoodfrodo  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ISLANDER1089 My guess is that the command for the TV (in the Macro) is an "on" command rather than a "Power command" - meaning it sends a signal to turn the TV on, rather than a signal to toggle from the current state to the other state. But that's a guess - the other possibility is that the order of the events is keeping the TV from turning off - maybe try switching the order that you are powering the devices. And then lastly if you haven't already, maybe try adding a wait command between them and having a 1-2 second delay between each device. Also keep in mind (and maybe you're doing this already) that you have to continue pointing the remote towards your devices until all commands have been executed since the IR signal is sent from the remote. Those are my suggestions - hopefully those help you sort it out.

    • @ISLANDER1089

      @@hollywoodfrodo Thank you for taking the time to respond to my dilemma. I have tried changing the order of commands but there're no instructions about applying a pause. • @hollywoodfrodo
      @hollywoodfrodo  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ISLANDER1089 so I guess you don’t actually “add” a pause because there is always one built in by default. It’s 1/2 second. If you look between each command you’ll see a tiny clock and .5 - if you tap that you can make it longer, like 1.5 seconds. Or 3 seconds.

    How do you change Directv channels with this remote?

    • @hollywoodfrodo
      @hollywoodfrodo  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Somewhat depends on how you set it up/program it. You can set the numbers to be used to enter specific channel numbers. You can set the up/down arrows to move the the next/previous channel. You could program your favorite channels into the color buttons. I would assume often you'd go through the DirecTV Guide Menu via the Menu button.

    • @hollywoodfrodo
      @hollywoodfrodo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's easy for tech savvy folks, but not as overall simple as some of the older ones. But then the tech you're using it with these days is also way more complex than what we were using 20 years ago so naturally it's going to be more complex. There are still simple universal remotes out there if all you need to do is control a TV and one other device or something.
