    The WF College Card was my first one as well! After about 2 years, I moved to the AMEX Gold and now working my way through chase. Great video!

      Awesome! Thanks for watching and commenting Noah! Yeah that’s been a pretty common card to start with. Glad to hear you’ve got some Amex and chase cards now!

    My first credit card was also Wells Fargo. I’m kind of naive when it comes to credit cards so I let my partner manage my accounts and I now have 10 credit cards and have an excellent score. Now I’m trying to learn about the benefits and I’m enjoying your videos.

      Thanks man! Haha I feel like I got into credit cards late sometimes even though I'm only 25. I didn't start until I was 20 but I know others that literally start as soon as they turn 18! Always good to start as soon as possible I guess!

    I am so glad I have your videos for credit card tips. I worked and got alot of income in my early 20s and at that time, I didn’t consider having a credit card and just used my bank account savings to buy things because in my country, having a credit card is not recommended because the term “credit” scares them but really, its a struggle in their later lives when wanting to buy a house and need a loan for it and banks knowing that you have no credit to back you up, wont approve you for anything. So, thank you for providing these tips. hoping to build my way into AMEX!!

    Sweet video Daniel! My first card was the Discover it Student Cash Back card. After my first card, I focused heavily on Chase Ultimate Rewards as well but recently I've been broadening my horizons. The Chase Ink Cash was my first business card too! Great video 🙌

      Thanks Ryan! Yeah that Discover It Student is a really popular first card for so many people, I wish I got that one first. Sounds like we had a similar start with our cards. I focused a lot on Chase at first too. And yeah, that Ink Cash card is great! Appreciate it man 👍

    My first credit card was/is the BoA Cash Rewards that I got two years ago as a sophomore in college (not even the student version, the regular lol). I now have the Chase Freedom Flex and I'm eyeing the Sapphire Preferred next. Thanks for the reminder that credit cards are a long-term thing and there's no need to rush into getting a bunch of them, because the more cards and rewards I discover the more I get tempting into getting them lol

    Nice video Daniel! I'm currently a college senior and my first card was a BoA Cash Rewards card that I got during freshmen year. It was pretty nice since I could put my 3% category on dining which was (and still is) where most of my daily spendings are.

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks so much! That's a good card to have for that. I really wish I would have done something similar because I left a ton of cash back on the table by using a debit card for the majority of my college spending in similar categories. Glad to hear you are taking full advantage of credit cards while in school! 👍

    My first (and only) credit card I got just 6 months ago now, the discover it student cash back! So far I’ve improved my fico score from a low 600 to 729! I’m going to wait until I’ve had my discover card for a year before applying to my next card which if things stay as they are now will either be the sofi credit card or the chase freedom unlimited. I want to start with chase over citi or Amex as the chase trifecta looks so appealing for me and the life style I hope to have one day!

    First credit card was the Apple credit card for just the basic 2% back on Apple Pay since almost everywhere accepts that now. I also have an AMEX gold as well, love the dining credits while being in college and other benefits as well. Having to pay that off in full each month also keeps my spending in check. Also great vid!

    1. [2017] Liberty Bank Max Cash Preferred (was a secured card at first, then I upgraded and now it's basically the US Bank Cash Plus)
    2. [2019] JCPenney card (I was a noob)
    3. [January 2020] Amazon Prime Rewards Visa
    4. [April 2021] Chase Freedom Unlimited
    5. [July 2021] Citi Custom Cash
    6. [Today, August 2021] Chase Freedom Flex

    I have 17 cc and mainly just use 3. My first cc was a capital one secured credit card that helped me build up my credit. My favorite is my Amex trifecta Gold, Platinum, and everyday preferred. Haven’t been using my chase cards as much lately at all

    I was just watching a video explaining the history of amex and wanted to know the benefits of the platinum card. Your one video was the first pop up. Now Im about 5 videos in and I love them. I only 20 and have only 2 credit cards. I have an Bank of America Travel rewards card(the same one my dad uses so helped me get one) and a Capital One Bass pro club card(I worked at bass pro and the points+employee discounts was a nice bonus, also I love the outdoors and was spending there anyways). Im loving the vids and hoping when I graduate college Ill be able to use the knowledge gained here to be at least half as financially savvy as you.

    Been following your videos for a bit, just hit the sub button because you always have good info. It is good to watch someone with a similar mindset as my own. I have the United Explorer Chase Card, AMEX Hilton card (both for travel), similarly the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Capital One Venture X, Capital One Quicksilver (for cash back), Citi Costco and the AMEX Platinum. Keep up the great videos, trying to make the decision on the next card and will probably use your advice.

    I just got my freedom flex this month how long do you suggest do you recommend before applying for my next chase car more specifically the freedom unlimited or should I go for reserved/ preferred?

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally waited a few months just so I didn’t rush Chase and risk getting denied. As long as your income is good and credit score is good, then you could go straight for something like the preferred. The reserve may be tougher depending on your credit history. But you should have no problem getting the freedom unlimited if you already got the freedom flex. Hope that helps!

      The discover it is going to be your best option as a first card! Whether it’s the student version or a secured version of that card, depending on what you can approved for. Once you have that first card, just get used to it for a while before looking at other cards. Best of luck!

I travel for work a lot so the Amex's and Chase are used a lot, and the BOA card is used for purchases while at home.

    Hey Daniel! I recently found your channel and am really enjoying your videos! I got the discover it student card about a year and a half ago and have a total credit history of about 2 years (I'm an authorized user on my parents' credit card). I have a relatively low utilization and have never missed a payment. I applied for the capital one savor one card in December and got rejected due to my not having a long enough credit history and having too high utilization (found out this was due to my parents' card and they were able to decrease their utilization on that specific card by a lot). I was thinking about reapplying for the same card in April, but it seems like you stick more to Chase and Amex cards. Is there a specific reason for that? The savor one seems really good for dining and groceries, which is what i spend most of my money on as a college student. I don't really spend much on travel either. Should I still reconsider or go for the savor one again in a few months? (I am also looking to get the wells fargo active cash card within the next year or so so I can get 2% on everything not dining/groceries/whatever the discover category is)

      He just likes chase and amex, everyone is different. New cars and benefits come and go, there is no best card. When you're starting out stick to cards that have no fees and give decent cash back/rewards. Try your best to get off your parents account, as their cards are going to drag you down, you build up credit history overtime anyway. I would try a card that gives you perks with no fees, but doesn't require credit history. My first card was a US Bank signature Cash+ card, which I got with zero history or credit score. Might have helped that I banked with US, but helped me skip the annoying secured card that most people have to start with. So try to find a decent card, possibly one from the bank you hold an account in.

    Hello, I got a Deserve EDU card when I didn't have a SSN, but I'm planning to close it now because my other cards are much better than that.
    Current Cards:
    -> BofA Unlimited Cash Rewards(Oct 2021) : $1500
    -> Deserve EDU Card(Jan 2022): $800
    -> Discover IT card(Feb 2022): $500
    -> Chase Freedom Flex Card(March 2022): $800
    -> Chase Sapphire Preferred(June 2022): $5000
    Credit Score is about 710.
    Is it a good idea to close the Deserve EDU card now or should I wait for a few months? Also, CSP is my primary card now, but I'm looking into taking any Amex cards in the near future, maybe after a year. Which amex card would you recommend for me? Please help me with my queries. Thank you!

    My first credit card was actually a Bank of America Cash Rewards card; not even the student version, just the regular one! I somehow had a 700~ credit score which probably let me get approved, and man I maxed that thing out 😂 I now have 6 credit cards and 3 charge cards--Delta Reserve, Delta Platinum, Hilton Aspire, CSP, Prime Rewards, Apple Card, and the Amex Green, Gold, and Platinum. I had a couple of BoA cards but closed both when I moved my business to Chase. Should I do a video? lol let me know!

    First CC on my own (not using one linked to my dad) was the Apple Card at 19 years old. Currently 21 almost 22 and I'm looking to get a more premium card with better points and big welcome bonus. The best welcome bonus im seeing right now is the CSP at 60,000 points. It really frustrates me that it was 100,000 points just a few months ago. Do you think I should wait to see if they increase the points bonus, or should I just go for it and get the 60,000 now?

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good to hear that you're looking for some better cards now with bonuses! The CSP is one of my favorite to have. Its a tough call because its really hard to time those welcome bonuses perfectly and I've definitely left some points on the table because of it. If you are getting the CSP like I have, I would also recommend having the Freedom Flex and Freedom Unlimited as well for those welcome bonuses and the way they earn points. Then those points can be combined with the CSP to get great value. Totally up to you if you want all of those cards, but what I would probably do in your situation is get those 2 no annual fee cards first over the next few months while waiting to see if Chase increases that CSP offer to higher than 60k points. Then after waiting a few months you could go for the CSP. It all depends on where you are with the Chase 5/24 rule too and what you prefer to do, but I hope that helps!

    Awesome lineup Daniel, oh sorry, credit card portfolio. I love the sound of that. Slow and steady, great advice. I am currently in the credit card "garden" as I was a little too aggressive in building my "portfolio". My first card at 18 yrs old was from a local credit union (local to the Air Force Base I was stationed at the time). I had to go in for an interview with the vice president of the credit union before getting it. Sounds crazy now.
    I like cash back with no annual fees.
    What's your next card? Stay safe brother!

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Eric! Lol yeah "credit card portfolio" is just me trying to sound smarter 😂. Wow yeah that's crazy that was the process that you had to go through to get that first card! Cash back with no annual fees is a great way to go for so many people, I'd like to make a video some day about cash back vs points cards and no annual fees vs annual fees. I'm probably going to get the ink business unlimited next as long as I can make the minimum spend work. Its $7,500 to get 75k points on that card as well so that's worth it to me. Then I'm trying to figure out where I want to go from there. I'll be making plenty more update videos of the cards I get! Thanks as always for watching and commenting, hope all is well!
