i think the reason why this happens is because its an area between patches of the map, and while earthbound does have a full, interconnected map, there are still seams where they have to connect certain parts. at least, i think thats what it is. i dont have anything to confirm this nor have i tested it, thats just my immediate assumption upon watching this for the first time
That's a bit ridiculous if you ask me. If it can't be seen, it shouldn't be blocking the path. And if I hit an enemy, why didn't it do the battle swirl animation?
@@Hovergoat_Guy yea you clearly hit an enemy. The thing as to why you don't see them till after is due to the screen not wrapping properly and not loading enemy sprite data for a number of reasons
@@imcaptainbasch I would think, in that case, it would've given me the battle swirl animation right after then. Now I'm tempted to try to replicate this and see about it.
@@Hovergoat_Guy A good spot to replicate this is near where you learn teleport. An enemy called a mole playin rough always spawns there. As for not encountering the antoid the colision box on those enemies is very small. They also immediately run after clearing the first sanctuary making this fairly easy to replicate though
My next guess would be the way the map loads the next map when getting closer. If you hit that tile, it must call something. The antoid thing is more sense though.
Of all things, a BUTTERFLY crutches a teleport... That is a step above what happened in the video, but at least you got reimbursed for the PP it costed.
It did that because, while teleporting, Entities that aren't on the screen when you started teleporting don't load their sprites, just their collision. It sucks when I run into ants like that.
Don't you hate when you try to teleport to fourside but a attack slug or a black antoid blocks your way without entering the battle and make you burned out

Yeah thats what i thought too
Map is interconnected but I imagine to prevent loading errors/clashing palettes because the player might walk out of bounds
In 0:32 he hit an enemies so that's why he couldn't teleport
Pause at 0:33 and the enemy was in the way. You cannot see enemies when teleporting, so that’s what happened.

To be fair, it HAS been used for speedrunning, though usually only for straight segments, or on TAS runs that can sprint a whole map with one.
you literally ran into Black Antoids, you can see them run when the teleport ends
