In some ways I like Earthbound's more, in other ways I like Mother's. Rockin' looks cooler than Love, I like that Fire looks more explosive in this one than in Earthbound, the enemy PSI effect is way more appealing in M3. I love that these are easier on the eyes but I definitely like how dramatic some of the effects in Earthbound can be. Honestly, some of my favorites tend to be the ones that aren't actually associated with PSI (the beam attack, the tidal wave, a Shield Killer, the Masked Man's lighting, Mr. Genetor's lightning). I agree with you on the sounds, though, especially for Brainshock, Shield, and Reflect, but there are a couple from mother 3 that I really like the sound of (especially Hypnosis). Overall though, I think the animations I miss most from Earthbound are Thunder Omega and Flash Omega (and, to an extent, Brainshock Omega). They're just so... dramatic, and feel so powerful.
In my opinion, @@GarryDumblowski, the only effect in Mother 3 that I believe isn't as good as Earthbound's is Love. It feels too plain, in a way, compared to Rockin'. ...Well, I suppose it's that and Flash, but at least it doesn't strain my eyes any more. I enjoy all the others, though. The restorative spells, especially Lifeup, feel very soft, in a manor of speaking, and satisfying to boot, the offensive effects feel very punchy, especially Ice, which actually feels _explosive_ for an ice spell, all the buff and debuff effects are fun and interesting and portray what they do to the party member or enemy in a cool way, and the shielding effects _truly_ make you feel _protected,_ like you're setting up an immovable barrier... ...Although I miss Brainshock's trumpets...
Yeah that’s the most positive thing And unlike some people, I really like how those effects are (except for PK Flash screw this thing), especially PK Freeze, which make you understand how the attack deals those massive damage (the way the ice suddenly explode)
In Earthbound, PSI moves have more of a techy, alien, psychic look to them. In Mother 3 it looks more like magic, more mystical, or like sorcery. Both of these fit within the themes of their games.

Counter's sound effect is so good, I just like the "Guh-ging" sorta sound. PK Fire Gamma's effect is by far the best, it's utilizing the shapes and colors in such a effective way while also keeping it simple, PK Fire Omega is also cool but it doesn't have that flare (no pun intended).
I have to be honest, kind of disappointed at the lack of variation in PK Love's effects. PSI Rockin' has very distinct animations for its attacks (Gamma especially, but all of them are exceedingly different), whereas love feels very much like just a simple "it's stronger" attack. This would be fine if it were something like Freeze or Fire, but PK Love is the "special" psionic attack for Mother 3; something *no one* else could have, even if they wanted to. It just feels a bit underwhelming.
At the same time with each stronger form PSI Rockin in EarthBound the animation took longer and longer to show which was very detrimental if one of your party members just took mortal damage, Here in Mother 3 they’re all quick and to the point, but yeah gotta agree with you there about PK Love’s effects looking…meh

I think you forgot when the enemy "expels a sweet fragrance" the effect is similar to the smoke bomb but with a different sound and it is visually pink, I think the enemy "barrel man" used this effect
Those who enjoy old game sounds will most likely enjoy the OG earthbound effects, they're iconic after all But one cannot deny the pure gold that is the sound design behind these effects Offense Down and Defense Down, man Sounds make me feel crushed

I had an enemy cast PK Brainshock α on me at one point during my playthrough, the animation was the same as the player's, except localized on the hud of course, but the sound it played was different, namely it still had the 2 trumpet notes in it from earthbound, a little fainter and more chiptuned, but still there. kinda sad to not see them in here cause PK Brainshock has always been the highlight of psi effect reels for me. Even though PK Brainshock is the most utterly useless ability in the entire game, try and brainshock something and it'll laugh at you every time, never had a confused enemy hit one of its teammates even once through my playthrough
I don't know if you've been told this already, because it kinda feels like the example everyone gives of how you can use Brainshock, but it's helpful against Giygas in M2. I found it particularly helpful in the first phase, since it makes it much more likely that he just _won't_ try and hit you with PK Rockin'. Granted, it's not as good of a strategy as Shield Σ, but maybe it'll save you if you're pressed for PP or something.
I think I found another one! The Lingering Spirit is capable of "expounding on its past sorrows in life", which has an animation I don't think is depicted here that's essentially an indigo palette-swap of Hypnosis α. It makes the target cry, and it seems like the Lingering Spirit has a _very_ low chance of using it (but i might be unlucky)

Enemy PK Love doesn't have the same animation as Starstorm, it looks just like the player's PK Love, but the trapezoids that normally move inward to simulate movement toward the enemy now move outward to simulate movement toward the player.
So apparently this effect *is* used in the Chapter 7 Masked Man fight, but the effect I mentioned is used in the final battle. If they had the more accurate version, why did they reuse the Starstorm animation for Chapter 7?
I have never seen enemy PK Ground (2:27) before. Does this mean some Enemy/Boss was supposed to have PK Ground before it was scrapped for being too hard to fight against with ?
While the moves don't have any official names that I could find, this one triggers after the text reads something like "(enemy) created a shockwave." Hefty Head is one enemy that uses this attack, and it doesn't really work much like PK Ground. It's possible there might've been some scraped Enemy PK Ground move, but unfortunately this isn't proof of it.
