2:51 You know, there are ways to tempt a character content with everything in their life towards the Dark Side. Take the squirrel girl, she has a adequate amount of friends and adventures, so you can't tempt her with anything. Then try to scare her into joining the dark side.
Remember why Anakin fell to the dark side? Because he saw visions of Padmes death, and Palpatine tempted Anakin with the power to cheat death. Go for a similar route, either send visions to the squirrel girl about the impending doom of her friends and have the dark side tempt her with the power to subert it, or have the dark side claim that it had visions of her friends dying a gruesome death.
Threaten the upend of her status quo that she is so satisfied with, and sell the dark side as a solution to keep the status quo.

    • @loke6664
      @loke6664 2 ปีที่แล้ว +81

Another option is to claim her adventuring days will be over and she will end up married to a slob with a minimum wage job unless of course she joins the dark side.
She have 2 motivations: her friends and her love for adventure. Threaten her friends is the easiest option but it is also the predictable one. It has been done before as you said.
Threatening her with a boring job at Burger Darth and a terrible marriage is as effective and more interesting.

Minus the 2 other paragraphs, a character being tempted by a darked power by their wildest desires was Samwise Gamgee in lord of the rings, the ring of power tried to tempt him with the idea of turning all of mordor into a garden and he was just like "How would i tend to it?" And the ring was like "Uuuuuuuuuh." I love it.

      @@BobMcBobJr I dunno, I don't like sand.
No one would be stupid enough to go for that without a lot of fore shadowing first so Ben would have had to set that up for several sessions before and the player was a temp.
In all honestly, there are few players you can trick into going evil without a good setup first unless they already start out bad. Also, those players that easily would go for it isn't very fun to tempt either, the challenge is to tempt the more morally upstanding and that always take a long and carefully arranged scheme to work.
The prequels really failed there with Anakin. While he do flip and kills the sand people you still get the impression that he goes 180 all of the blue and murders all the Jedi kids pretty much for no reason.
Lucas should have set that up during the entire second movie and maybe even hinted at it in the first.
You can't expect any players to be so easily seduced by the dark side. Maybe if you set them up with Jar-Jar and annoys them to turn evil but they might just as well quit the campaign for that.

7:34 as a hard-core Star Wars fan I feel obligated to point out that in The Empire Strikes Back Vader at one point tells some people to calculate every possible hyperspace destination along the rebel ships last know locations. So it is possible that Luke could have used a combination of that and The Force to track the players. Hilarious video too, thank you.

Just want to point out that blowing up Alderaan ended up being one of single worst things the Empire did that led to their downfall. Most of the galaxy saw it as sensless violence at best or an all out attack against their own at worst. (The planet had several Empire Loyalists on it and was seen working with the Empire for decades.) Planets began to really distrust the Empire after this event and Rebels were able to use to this as a rally cry to get more planets on their side which worked well for them in the end. Though they went though some hardships, the Rebels became much stronger after this event. I can only imagine how bad it would be for the Empire if they destroyed Corusant. That is a major planet of trade and home to several Empire Loyalists. If the Empire destroyed it, no one... NOT ONE PLANET. Would feel safe with the Empire and actively would start to work against them. One of the biggest things the Empire had going for them was the promise of prosperity to the galaxy. You just wiped out any idea of that being the case here. The Empire would crumble from within. In the end, the fall of the Empire would still happen making the timeline reconverge in a way. Just way more lives lost than in the original timeline.

(CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISM TRUST ME) For me, his humor has really fallen off, the kind of over exposure if him, and watching more nuanced and well thought of videos like emplemon and Jacob Geller where the story always wraps back around to the point wich is the subject matter of tbe storry, and not a story being the point, lacking deeper meaning, wich is most dnd session except for Fools Gold by dingo doodle, wich has far superior animation, not to dunk on puffin, he started out literally knowing nothing, wich is hilarious, but Dingos story just has such a nuanced deep under tone with continuous over arking themes of losing ones self without support groups or finding ones self once long gone by sheer time, and so on and so forth, Ben does have a story like that in the curse of strawd but its very impersonal and he plays it out almost clinically lacking alot of that over arking nuance and drama, in the end well
      SPOILERS
its very unsatisfying how they literally chose a old vampire, wich hated strawd and wanted his power and was very manipulative, WICH I COULD SEE WAS A BAD IDEA FROM A MILE AWAY. And they let it happen, wich just grinds my gears, very unsatisfying. Because i loved the storu and the characters were so awesome and i wanted a satisfying conclusion.
      SPOILERS OVER
What im saying is, is hes not eloquent in any fashion regarding his story telling or animating capability, his comedy is flat and he has poor timing, sometimes lingering of scenes for 2 or 3 moments to long, making it arduous WHEN HE JUST KEEPS DOING IT, over and over and over, im quite spoiled with all these master of their craft that i watch, but bens just been the same minus his animation wich HAS REALLY GROWN, but hes like a late night host trying to crack jokes into a camera, his style of comedy is ment for the table, and dnd groups, not online fast paced hit them in the head comedy, making him seem dry and drab, its a shame he hasnt changed in that regard or tried to, at leats from what i can see, it disappoints me that i see him as second rate, a b list youtuber, technically z list but i literally watch Rusty Cage SO I DONT CARE, my point is i dont want to see him fizzle out and die, i remeber one day when i went on youtube in 2017 or 16 and saw AntVenom, THE ANTVENOM, with 2,000 views, it was heart breaking, and a wiplash reality check, hes back on top now so i know even if ben dosnt change he'll be fine, come backs and all, but i dont wanna see him survive, I WANNA SEE HIM THRIVE, if you read this ben, or maybe im f#cking mistaken you for another youtuber who does dnd, but i dont think so though Ben, please improve your comedy writing, and pacing, its not easy its not simple, but thats my constructive criticism, i care about u ben, i subsisted on your curse of strawd campaign as it came out, i remeber when it ended already missing it, and i knew i just had one of the best times of my life, Me my best friend and family living happily as i watched you, you were the highlight of my day for what felt like half a year, and it was awesome, im a harsh critic because i love what you make, and i wanna be just as excited as when u came out with each episode of curse of stroud IDK HOW TO SPELL HIS NAME, simply dont over think it, good luck mate, may the force be with you, always.

Usually when a plot diverges to a different timeline. It ends by correcting the point of divergence, thus restoring the correct timeline.
If this happens would you consider the genocide counter set back to zero as the acts of the party would be undone?
Or would it skyrocket because correcting the timeline would in effect by destroying an entire universe.

Like, at best this would lead to widespread mismanagement that would destroy the government within a few years, I don't care how authoritarian they are. 0:55 funnily enough, there are Sith who would go around collecting Sith Spirits to empower themselves, using a power called Force Walking to either pacify or dominate the Spirits, hence they were known as Force Walkers. Short term, you get a lot of power. Long term, you literally have a bunch of Sith Ghosts arguing in your head, and either directly try and kill you or indirectly kill you because the amount of power would become too much for you to wield. Hence it's usually safe to stop after taking on 1 Spirit, otherwise a lot of hoops need to be jumped to real in the additional Spirits and not end up dying to power overload.

@@JagmasterGeneral12374 Goblins doesn't really count, unless if your character is a goblin too. Morally they are just XP and easily killed.
I am not sure how you could kill 1000 with a single fireball unless they are locked in a huge building that catch fires easily though, the blast radius of fireball isn't really large enough to hit more then a dozen but players can be pretty inventive.
My players accidentally burned down a third of Westgate (FR) when the wizard panicked and threw a fireball inside an inn. It killed about a 100 people though so mass murder but no genocide and most of those were home sleeping at night when a fireball hit "The buccaneer"s rum barrels and bar and the fire spread quickly in poorer area of town.

Coruscant is causing too much trouble and so the Empire decided to annihilate it ? Small problem, that is where Palpatine's Imperial Palace is, alongside his collection of Sith artifacts, experiments and his favorite opera house. Its kind of a symbol of Imperial society too, so its not a planet you should destroy.

My one experience with playing the star wars tabletop we were using a ruleset where everything was D6 and I said something in character that seemed a bit evil one too many times so the DM just put a giant ass pile of red dice in the middle of the table and told me "you can use as many as you want, as often as you want. You have 2 of them but grab more whenever you want." Turns out ID GAINED DARKSIDE POINTS and grabbing dice would inherently gain me more and if I grabbed too many or used them too often he was just going to take my sheet and have my character.

I have no idea how DnD/Pathfinder can be so fast paced!
I play a german version of it (TL;DR: far more rules to handle basicially everything, but also FAR more worldbuilding and character progression)
and we would need YEARS to finish what oyu just described.
We are currently on our 12th session since we got our latest quest.
And we reached the city in question at the end of it.
In the mean time we found a boy, gave the boy to the church, found out the church wanted to burn him (evil magic and stuff) saved the boy by hiring professionals, runnign away from the church and hiding while still on our way into the big city, fighting a demonic summoner, found out the church only used us to lure him out...
And that was the EXTREMELY SHORT VERSION. All the character stuff that ppl did and all the talks we had...
How long was this voyage from our guestgiver to that town?
About 200 kilometres. Maybe 300 if we take our detour into consideration.

    • @LetsPlayCrazy
      @LetsPlayCrazy ปีที่แล้ว

Update: we left said city EIGHT MONTHS LATER (2 sessions a 3-4 hours a week)
because every inch of that city has something interesting... and you need food and income and.... :D
just thought I'd let you know... that part of the quest took us 8 months (original quest: go there, find object, come back; final quest: get sidetrackt with a random npc boy, nearly start a holy war because the church wanted to burn him (dark magic), fled from the church, defeat the mastermind with the help of the church... and finally arrived at the city... and then the real rollercoaster began :D )

I too have been playing a Star Wars D&D campaign with my kids. They recently were shot down in crashland on the planet dagobah. It was hilarious because they kept saying this is Yoda song but our campaign is during the clone Wars era so it's not his home yet. After that mission my children try to convince Master Yoda of how great dagobah is and how he needs to move there when he retires from being a Jedi. Too bad this wasn't Canon in the movies.
