I still have never seen this movie. Only clips of it on TH-cam. I had never even heard about it until I came across a clip of it on TH-cam. Then I had an itch to watch another clip, and another, and another. At one point I stumbled upon this clip above, and wholly cow. So powerful. It literally gets me to tears every time. There's so many little subtle things to pick up on in this 3 min scene, it's beautiful. One of my favorite parts is the subtle and underlying appreciation Karl's Co workers and boss have for him. You see them smile when he accepts the flowers, you see the boss make the other employee go get food so that Karl and the woman can have some alone time, when the boss urges Karl to get up and come see who is waiting for him the beginning, as if the boss himself is excited for Karl. It's just little stuff like that that's so beautiful. Easily one of my favorite scenes in all movie history. I will one day watch this movie from front to back.

What an excellent Detail in this movie , and so deeply Sad... Shows how Karl could have had a fairly Normal life, maybe even had a girlfriend, and been a friend and Mentor to Frank , if that monumental A Hole Doyle would have not pushed him over the edge , threatening Little Frank and his mom... What a total waste.

The love scene with Carl is very tastefully done, if you have the Unrated Version. When Melinda is almost falling asleep, she realizes Carl has been standing in the corner eating potted meat with his pants around his ankles...just watching her for a good 45 minutes. We then hear several long "mmm hmm" as the camera slowly fades to black. Very hot love scene.

The progression: release from hospital, familiarizes himself with the town, finds food, makes a friend, gets a job, becomes successful at the job, joins a family, meets a girl, along the way gains respect from people, closure with father, ultimately PROTECTS his new family.

This movie is like 3 hours long and it’s one of the best. Literally impossible to watch in the US unless you catch it on cable TV. I had no idea it was basically obsolete due to legal issues during filming.

*Sling Blade 2019 (aka The Forced Millennial Reboot)*
Bill: Karl, this here is a phone.
Karl: Don't look like no phone I ever seen. Looks like a little glass rectangle with little gizmos I reckon. But, if ye say it's a phone I ain't got no reason to doubt ye.
Bill: Now Karl this here is an app. I'll explain apps later. But, this one here is called Tinder. Just take a look at all the fine ladies. If you see one you wanna take to the Frosty Cream, swipe right.
Karl: I recon I understand. ...Bill? What if I don't want to take the fine lady to Frosty Cream? What if I just want to take'er right to the back room here?
Bill: Well, Karl you'd still swipe right.
Karl: So, ye said all the nice things about Frosty Cream. But, what ye meant was just carnal pleasures. Since I got out the hospital people seem to say one thing. But, they always mean another.
Scooter: That's because we're all shallow and superficial now!
Bill: Scooter! Why you gotta go and say things like that!
Karl: At least Scooter's being straight with me. Bill, ye and just about everybody outside the hospital are startin' to sound like no-'count's.
