Did You Know? Filipino Roots Run Deep in China

  • In an interesting part of history, the Philippines and China have a closer connection than many people think. In 1417, Sultan Paduka Batara, who was the ruler of the East Sulu Sultanate, went to China to show respect to the emperor.
The Sultan was welcomed warmly when he arrived. But something unexpected happened. On his way back, Sultan Paduka Batara got sick and died in Dezhou, China. The Chinese emperor, who liked the Sultan, decided to build a big and beautiful tomb for him that still exists today.
But the story doesn't end there. Following their tradition of ancestor worship, Sultan Paduka Batara's sons, Andulu and Wenhalla, stayed in China to look after their father's tomb.
They became part of Chinese society and married into the local Hui ethnic group, a Muslim community. This mix of cultures created a lasting legacy.
Today, around 3,700 descendants of Sultan Paduka Batara live in China, spanning 21 generations. Recognized as part of the Hui nationality, they still cherish their Filipino heritage. This unique presence in China reflects a Sultan's journey that united different cultures.

Yes...during the ancient times....when they still know how to respect the Filipinos...unlike now...not only they disrespect but constantly bullying and encroaching Philippine territories...

How can they respect us? We've become American's best pets. We're supposed to be a Sultanate, but we let multiple foreigners colonize us. How do you expect a long standing civilization like China to respect us?

But behind this what is the true meaning of Filipino Chinese friendship?look at this days grab our territory and still medling in politics, they make documents in our land. They are not just a trader but a conqueror.Pilipino is for Pilipino only that the way it is.Pilipino first.

I agree China is overextending what they perceive as historical maritime territory, but it's delusional to think they want to take or control Philippines in any way. It's the Americans that do so, who treat the locals as cheap escorts, emasculate the men, and control your current president. In 20 or so years PH and CN will be close again

Better not have connection with a traitor....a thief, a propagandist, and a savage...if there's a good connection that was a long long time ago, it's already a closed book..and nothing more... again it's already closed..as for me as a Filipino It's " CLOSED " pag isinuka hindi na puwedeng ibalik period...

No doubt millions of Filipinos felt the same about Americans, but now they're treated like Gods in PH and most of Asia. If you can forgive real gen0 cide Americans did to you then you can forgive maritime disputes too. New chapters can be written

PH and CN will be close again in a few decades. If you can forgive what Americans did to PH you can forgive maritime disputes. I assure you, a Chinese will see you infinitely more as a real human than a Westerner would. If you knew how they felt about us Asians you wouldn't love them so much

There are stories of pirates from the Philippines sacking coastal chines towns, the funny thing is that they were after iron and steel rather than gold or silver resulting in things like gates, cookware and everyday iron items being stolen instead of more valuable stuff.
