Yaaaayyyy! So proud of you!!! It really takes so much courage to start and that is a big accomplishment! Wishing you much JOY and SUCCESS w every baby step you take!
You wouldn't believe the amount of times I've bent my knees and wondered what went wrong when I was actually leaning forward. It's easily done. Please make sure you're actually sat into it and aren't leaning forward!
Something that helps me is to think of “making my feet heavy” this helps with posture and putting my weight on my feet. Imagine you’re a long water balloon and you’re flowing the water from your core down to your feet. If you’re a balloon and you’re light on your feet and your weight is up top, you’ll fall, so if you feel like you’re going off-balance, move your weight back down to your feet and you can’t fall. But also yeah, stick your arms out, palms down, squat back down and stop wobbling and that’ll usually do the trick.
I’m an experienced skater and I learned some things from your video. Not only am I a professional instructor in several disciplines, I’ve also taken lessons in just about every sport from skydiving to scuba diving, and I have to say you are excellent in breaking down techniques into easily absorbed bite-sized prices, give great demos and explain well enough to get the point across without overpowering the learner. Keep it up!
YAS I love this comment haha. Like punk rock Wednesday Adams with the braids, yeah? It's almost faded now but it was fun while it lasted. THANK YOU! Love your comment ;) Happy you enjoyed the video!
I've been teaching myself how to skate since last December. I don't get a chance to skate everyday and sometimes go long stretches between practicing. I finally got skates that actually fit me so I've been skating a lot more. I feel like I should be learning this faster I can't do crossovers or go backwards or anything cool yet and I see people learn how to skate in like a week. How long did it take you to learn to skate? Your videos are way more helpful than any others I've seen. ❤️
I’m 6 months into skating many times a week and I can do transitions while going slowly on smooth surface but I can’t jump or do legitimate backwards skating. It isn’t fast for everyone. I’ve tried not to compare my progress
I'm so proud of you! I'm glad you were finally able to get some skates that fit you- that really does make a difference! - Feeling like you should learn faster because you see others learning fast: I know it's hard, but it's always discouraging when you compare your skate journey to anyone else. If I did that I'd just quit lol. So don't do it bby! This is YOUR skate journey and no one else's; that's theirs and it's okay if yours is at a different pace. Everyone progresses at different rates. There's also so many factors that feed into that we aren't aware of, each individual and their set of experience/circumstances/resources is different. So don't feel like you're behind- you're on your own skate journey; you will learn and progress in your own timing and way. Don't be hard on yourself either, 'cause I've done that before and it only holds you back. Any time we think we "should" be doing anything, we actually guilting ourselves about an expectation we think we're not meeting. It may be one no one else thinks but we burden ourselves with thinking we gotta reach that because we look around and see others there and we're not. Focus on you & what you're doing! And be nicer to yourself: accept that where you are at is enough. Don't let anyone make you feel like you aren't good enough because ________. Eh, screw that! You are right where you need to be and you are fully capable of getting where you want to be someday as long as you stick with it. Take the time it takes you. Enjoy it. Free yourself of any expectations of where you "should" be and enjoy where you are now. You'll get there, and one day you'll look back and see. I promise. I have done this to myself in the past, setting crazy high expectation for where I felt I needed to be; I know how cruddy it can feel when you put that pressure or expectation on yourself. Let it go! Set yourself free and give yourself permission to start enjoying skating for YOU and see what happens. Tell yourself -in fact make a list!- of all the things you've learned since starting and all things you CAN do and go celebrate those. Sometimes we have to remember how awesome we are and how much progress we've actually made -despite the challenges and obstacles we've faced along the way- and give ourselves credit for that! And please take my encouragements as all love- because these are things I had to go through, learn myself, and tell myself to find myself in a place where I could be content in my own skate journey no matter where I found myself, and regardless of what anyone else thought of my skating. You're not alone, and I'm sure many rollerskaters can relate this feeling of "being behind" or not progression fast enough", it's a common struggle especially starting off, so don't feel bad for feeling that way- but also know you don't have to. I hope you celebrate where you are and what you can do, then go after some more cool things at a pace that allows you to keep having fun while learning more! - How long did it take me to learn to skate? I'm still learning how to skate haha! I think it's an ongoing process, I never see myself as having arrived so I stay humble and keep learning. I end up surprising myself with new skills or tricks usually when I'm feeling inspired and as a result decided to try/do something new! Progress happens organically and intentionally, so make sure you both challenge yourself to keep learning more difficult skills you want to add, but also just have fun and explore things as they come to you. I would say I got a lot of the basics down within the first month thanks to a roller derby boot camp, but some skills took longer. I've been skating for a little over 3 years; I think I learned the fundamentals in about a year. I'm so happy you found my videos helpful
lol I got mine in December too, practiced a lot in January and February and sadly stopped during quarantine but still I can't exactly glide yet I just slide lmfaooo 😭 and there's people out there learning tricks and super difficult techniques in like a month
My skates just arrived today and honestly the universe must be helping me cause I came to YT to learn properly and your video literally presented it beautiful self without me searching ha!! Love it 💗💗💗💗💗💗
This is so helpful, I wish I'd seen this when I directly started! The idea of pushing while skating for long strides is different to how everyone else I watched seemed to teach it which was giving me the stompy issue. I'm still struggling with looking up, it's really hard to find smooth surfaces where I am so I always find myself hitting little stones no matter how much I try to clear the area beforehand and I can't stop looking down to spot them as I go
If you're getting caught on everything outdoors maybe invest in some softer wheels/gummy wheels! I had that issue for so long and i got gummy wheels and they go over almost anything cant even feel sticks and stuff under my skates ^o^
It's so nice to watch a video of a lassie who is the same build as me skating. I just starting skating last week, and all the videos I watched up to this point (tik tok etc...) are really super-slim girls who look very dainty, and they're all so amazing at skating & I was starting to think to myself "Maybe I'm not the right shape for this" as I have bigger hips, wider shoulders, I'm pretty chonky in a muscular way and it kind of made me feel less confident :( But you make it look so easy and it gives me a lot of confidence to see women like me being so badass at it. This video was really helpful, thank you so much!
I’m a new skater and I’ve been working on my posture, I improved a lot on my posture but I do have a slight pain on my lower back is that normal? Maybe using muscles I never used before? Thank you! Love the video 💗
Back pain is so uncomfortable, I'm sorry you're feeling that. That used to happen to me in roller derby too. Here are some things it could be (I don't know though so this isn't like a professional or medical opinion, just possibilities I thought of based on my own experience!) and some things that may help: - Muscle fatique | If you skated a lot and your muscles are sore, you could just be adjusting where you put the weight because of that- that also happened often to me in roller derby. As a tall skater, I struggled to keep my butt low and had to develop my muscles to get stronger so I could hold my form longer and better. Doing some bodyweight squats, like 20 a day, can help improve your muscle strength and form. - Try doing a squat like you're going to sit in a chair. Remember how that feels when you're skating to keep your butt down and pay attention to how your hips are titled- that's probably where pain comes in, if you tilt your hips too far back and up it could hurt your lower back to stay in that position. I also like this trick to check my squat form: I literally will squat down (drop my booty down) to a bench/chair/flat seat focusing on my hips and stance and see how that feels. Adjust to what is comfortable to you- sometimes going lower can cause pain in your kness or back and you definately don't want that! But overall the focus for me that helps is that it's more about your hips sitting straight down :) - If you have to bend over, it's best to bend your knees and sit your butt down instead of just bending at the knees with your legs straight. If you find yourself doing that on or off skates it could contribute to back pain, just a common movement that can cause it! Hope these tips help and your back gets relief
You might not be engaging your core enough, I often find when my back hurts its because I'm letting my spine do all the work of holding me up instead of using my core muscles to hold me and take the weight off my back.
Ah thank you! I'm so happy you found my channel and we connected. It makes my day to hear feedback that you found my videos/tips helpful. Thank for taking the time to leave an encouraging comment and let me know
I’ve been skating for a month now and can only seem to do so on a tennis court. I’ve fallen so hard and often trying to skate on the sidewalk and road, so now I’m scared to go anywhere other than the tennis court :’)
I know this was months ago but invest in larger softer wheels go on google and look up 78a 62mm skate wheels and you can change them out yourself. These kind of wheels will let you glide over rough surfaces without stumbling as much!
Everything in this video is what I have trouble with. I wasn't sure what a T stop was and you explained it so well! Next clear day, I'm gonna try these!
I'm in LOVE with the color of your hair!!! Wowwww. Your first tip was the first lesson I learned. I went back and forth in my carport, almost TRIPPING over the smallest of leaves!! I couldn't skate until the surface was sweeped. I really need outdoor wheels.
I wanted to let you know that you have helped me a lot to improve my skating skills..so tanks a lot for the information you are putting on these videos. They are amazing 👍✌️
Hiiii, newbie skater here🙋♀️ Just wanted to say a huge thank you for making this!!!! New to your channel, I’ve watched so many tutorials but so far this was the best one for actually learning how to stop!!🙅♀️ 🛼✨ Can’t wait to put this in practice & feel more confident on my wheels. 😜🙏😘 xx
I just got my first pair of skates in decades and these all seem like pertinent and helpful tips. When weather gets better I'll rewatch and give these a try.
Thank you so much your tutorials but especially for doing them in FLAT SKATES! I'm learning in a pair of Chayas and almost all the content on TH-cam is girls in heeled skates. Very different centre of gravity!
@@simon_slays55 You’re welcome! I initially chose flat-boot skates because my feet are too wide for the heeled types, and my ankles felt claustrophobic! :) It takes a bit longer to learn to balance but yeah, so much more comfortable. Thanks again for the flat-boot girl content!
Omg this is the FIRST video where I actually learned and caught on! Lol. I felt the glide under my feet! I finally got it. Only thing is I skate too fast lol. I’m learning to stop too but I’m happy I staggered my feet! That had to be the BEST advice ever given! 🙃😆! Can’t wait to go to the rink tomorrow. I literally just practiced in my basement for over an hr once I caught on lol. I don’t want to forget. 😣
Great video! Skating is so fun but stopping never is. There are many ways to stop, but pretty much all of them aside from just gradually losing speed across a long distance age your wheels substantially. Wheels are expensive, so I have to get creative with my stops so as to not spend $100 every month on new wheels.
Balancing is what I struggle with. I wobble a lot while skating but I do bend my knees and I dont look down. I read somewhere that the weight should be on the front if to foot, the toes, and not as much on the heel as one would fall backwards. Is this true?
Thanks a lot for this video i did know most of it as things that i need to work on but had no idea about staggering my feet… btw what are your wheels ? Thank you
Got my skates in yesterday but I feel the need to watch these videos first before I attempt it lmao. I used to skate in roller blades growing up and then didn’t do it for a very long time until my first attempt at ice skating 10 years ago which went pretty well surprisingly. So guess I’ll see how roller skating will be like having not skated in over the 10 years 😭. Thank you for this video hopefully it goes well lmao 😆
Hey, there! Just found your channel and Ibeen binge watching it. Do you have a video where you show how to adapt regular sneakers to plates? You’ve mentioned making your own and I’d like to do it too… my feet are wide 😢
Ooh this is the perfect video for me! I just got my skates in and got them laced! Today was my first day and I worked on a one boot one shoe method that is one of the beginner exercises to help muscle imbalance and give me better balance. It's very tough and I'm very sore, my foot hurt a bunch. I think I'll need insoles as my skates do fit they're just isn't a lot of heel support or padding lol but I'm slowly getting the hang of the balance of thing :D I don't know how to stop or change direction and I'm only working on proper posture and weight/balance but this will help that for sure! My goal is to be able to skate backwards so I can do those cool flow videos and skate around my local park! I'm not interested in jumps or anything just want to be able to skate backwards, I hear its actually easier cause our bodies are kinda designed that way so that will be fun :D I look forward to incorporating these exercises during my next exercise day!
I use Radar Energy Wheels!! :)) they're gummy wheels, good for outdoor, i hardly feel things under me now i had so much trouble when i first started bc of how hard my wheels were and they'd get stuck on everythinggg
Bummer! But also thank you for letting me know & good catch! A lot of rollerskating stock has been selling out online in 2020 unfortunately. :( You may be able to find them on alternate sites (Radar Energy Wheels), but these are two similar outdoor wheels I found on amazon that would be comparable price and size! Hope this helps! Sure-Grip Gravity Roller Skate Wheels in Glitter Pink 65mm x 35mm - 78a durometer Outdoor Wheels amzn.to/35ZR3id $79 for an 8 pack Sure-Grip Boardwalk Outdoor Wheels in 5 Colors 65mm - 78A hardness amzn.to/34YTKS5 $79.99 for an 8 pack
In my 40s and need fun outdoor exercise. Waiting for my skates to be delivered from Amazon and watching videos. Glad I found your channel! Very good video!! #newsubbie
Yeeeeees the choppy walk, or as I tent to roll pusshing with inside edges on sides as it feels more stable but doesn't look right when I record my self. Can you please do more gliding tips to unlock the body??
I've been trying to squat but my back hurts. I'm thinking it's because my feet aren't staggered so I'm not very balanced. I'll be trying these tips when it stops raining. Typical UK.
Raise your hand if you relate to any of these ✋ Can't wait to share part two with you!

@@TiaBarrera Oh great idea! I definitely would love to share about making that switch up, I had the same experience myself!

Plow stops are way simpler that T-stops. I don’t feel like t-stops are beginner friendly at all. Anyone else?
Yes for some reason it’s a bit difficult for me 🤔
As a beginner I feel more comfortable with plow stops
I agree I hate t stops lol
T stops are terrifying for me 😂 30 days in and all I can do is a plow stop
You'll rarely ever see a quad skater t-stopping because they're terrifying. Plow stop is my preferred or I'll toe stop or weave to slow myself down.
I can’t do the at all. 6 months into skating
You wouldn't believe the amount of times I've bent my knees and wondered what went wrong when I was actually leaning forward. It's easily done. Please make sure you're actually sat into it and aren't leaning forward!
Yass!! It's so easy to do!
Agreed! Posture is super important.
I'm definitely guilty of doing this!

Hi we're last name buddies 🙂
Back pain is so uncomfortable, I'm sorry you're feeling that. That used to happen to me in roller derby too. Here are some things it could be (I don't know though so this isn't like a professional or medical opinion, just possibilities I thought of based on my own experience!) and some things that may help:

I also like this trick to check my squat form: I literally will squat down (drop my booty down) to a bench/chair/flat seat focusing on my hips and stance and see how that feels. Adjust to what is comfortable to you- sometimes going lower can cause pain in your kness or back and you definately don't want that! But overall the focus for me that helps is that it's more about your hips sitting straight down :)
- If you have to bend over, it's best to bend your knees and sit your butt down instead of just bending at the knees with your legs straight. If you find yourself doing that on or off skates it could contribute to back pain, just a common movement that can cause it!

Hiiii, newbie skater here🙋♀️
Just wanted to say a huge thank you for making this!!!! New to your channel, I’ve watched so many tutorials but so far this was the best one for actually learning how to stop!!🙅♀️ 🛼✨ Can’t wait to put this in practice & feel more confident on my wheels. 😜🙏😘 xx
This is a unique perspective from all the tutorials I have watched and has really helped me a lot with gliding and back pain thank you
I just got my first pair of skates in decades and these all seem like pertinent and helpful tips. When weather gets better I'll rewatch and give these a try.
I also need to find an area with smoother ground.
Yess thank you for this once again 🥰 and looooove the hair! Good look on you!
This is the most helpful beginner skater video I've seen, I've learnt loads. Thank you! xxx
Omg 😱 I had to start the video over you are gorgeous!!!!
Thank you so much your tutorials but especially for doing them in FLAT SKATES! I'm learning in a pair of Chayas and almost all the content on TH-cam is girls in heeled skates. Very different centre of gravity!
Yes! You're welcome Eve! I agree, thanks for appreciating :) I've loved the switch to my Vans DIY skates, never going back to a heeled boot.
Thank you so much for this video. I am watching this in preparation for a roller skating date I'm going on this weekend.
I got my roller skates yesterday and realised I was doing it all wrong 😂 thank you so much for this video, it helped A LOT!
Really great information
Omg this is the FIRST video where I actually learned and caught on! Lol. I felt the glide under my feet! I finally got it. Only thing is I skate too fast lol. I’m learning to stop too but I’m happy I staggered my feet! That had to be the BEST advice ever given! 🙃😆! Can’t wait to go to the rink tomorrow. I literally just practiced in my basement for over an hr once I caught on lol. I don’t want to forget. 😣
Yay! I’m so happy to read your comment, thanks for sharing 💖 have fun skating!
Beautiful skate teacher.
These tips were amazing, well explained, and very helpful Thank you so much.
This is super helpful! Thank you for sharing x
I just got mine and have been doing t8ktok videos and learning as I go and so many women have been buying skates so were gonna all be skating!!!!!!
Thank you!! This is so helpful
Omg so simple must admit straight to the point hands down best skate teaching video I’ve seen so far!!!
Wonderful tips/tutorial!
Great video 👍 Really great teacher. Love the body gestures. Makes it very clear. I only had one lesson. And this video really helps. Thanks 😊.
So helpful and encouraging!
I’m pretty sure I just sprained my wrist 🤣 needed this video.
Thanks so much for sharing these tips!
Of course! I love doing this. Thanks for watching videos on my channel! I make them for you 💜🛼 Happy skating!
Just want to thank u for this TH-cam video. I've learned so much for being at a beginner stage. Thanks a bunch ❤
That was awesome 😎....I had experienced as a youth. That was over 20 years ago 😂. Bringing them back out of the closet. THANKS🎉
I like the bended knee stop or plow stop
Great video! Skating is so fun but stopping never is. There are many ways to stop, but pretty much all of them aside from just gradually losing speed across a long distance age your wheels substantially. Wheels are expensive, so I have to get creative with my stops so as to not spend $100 every month on new wheels.
that toe stop stop was so sick!!!
will def try this tomorrow
Choppy walk was me all the way when I first tried to skate
Trop cool superbe pédagogie ! J'ai aimé !
This was again so helpful! Moving onto the next video. Thank you 🤍🙏
Balancing is what I struggle with. I wobble a lot while skating but I do bend my knees and I dont look down. I read somewhere that the weight should be on the front if to foot, the toes, and not as much on the heel as one would fall backwards. Is this true?
Thank you for such a clear description of things!!
Thank you for your videos!!
Great video! Great instructor! Thank you!
Thanks to your videos my skating has improved so much!! Just need to practice stopping and turning, but I don’t fall anymore 😅
Hey, there! Just found your channel and Ibeen binge watching it. Do you have a video where you show how to adapt regular sneakers to plates? You’ve mentioned making your own and I’d like to do it too… my feet are wide 😢
Yes I have filmed TWO videos on it, I just need to edit. I had to take a step away from TH-cam but I’m back at it. I’m excited to post those!
Thank you so much for this! I can honestly say that for me as a beginner skater, these two videos by you have helped me the most
Awesome video !!
9.46 coolest shit ive ever seen.. This was sooo helpful. I've learned soo much from just this video than i have with soo many I've seen combined
Thank you! I'm so stoked you found it helpful!
Very helpful:)
I'm not interested in jumps or anything just want to be able to skate backwards, I hear its actually easier cause our bodies are kinda designed that way so that will be fun :D I look forward to incorporating these exercises during my next exercise day!
this was so helpful! thank you
Thank you!!
Thanks for the tips, and also...girl, you're so pretty and aesthetic 💜
The wheels you recommended in the description box are unavailable :( can you recommend some other outdoor wheels?
Out of stock my friend~
Btw I am in huuuge fan of pompompurin 💕 my favorite Sanrio character ☺️
@@Hello_Chibi hehe thank you for your support & yes i know they're out of stock :( but are there other outdoor wheels you would recommend ? :)
@SarahBeth Skating! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
You may be able to find them on alternate sites (Radar Energy Wheels), but these are two similar outdoor wheels I found on amazon that would be comparable price and size! Hope this helps!
Sure-Grip Gravity Roller Skate Wheels in Glitter Pink 65mm x 35mm - 78a durometer Outdoor Wheels amzn.to/35ZR3id $79 for an 8 pack
Sure-Grip Boardwalk Outdoor Wheels in 5 Colors 65mm - 78A hardness amzn.to/34YTKS5 $79.99 for an 8 pack

Amazing video!! What roller skates do you have?

love the edits ♡
So helpful thank you!!
Fantastic video, thanks so much!
What a great video, love the fact you show the problem , then how to correct it. And yes prob guilty of each one of these, haha. 👍
What wheels do you use for the outdoors on roads and stuff love your videos btw!
Loved this so much! ❤️
thank you for your skate tutorial new subscriber to you
Relearning how to skate here! First off love, love your hair. Second, thanks for the tips.
I LOVE THESEE IT ALL MADE SENSEEEE (AND NICR HAIRRRRR)
Great tips
Yeeeeees the choppy walk, or as I tent to roll pusshing with inside edges on sides as it feels more stable but doesn't look right when I record my self.
Can you please do more gliding tips to unlock the body??
I've been trying to squat but my back hurts. I'm thinking it's because my feet aren't staggered so I'm not very balanced. I'll be trying these tips when it stops raining. Typical UK.
New to your channel... looove the hair!!!
