If you are using UE5 EA2 do not activate the Geometry Cache from Alembic File(Experimental) plugin. It breaks the import and only a static mesh comes in. If the plugin is on and you turn it off UE complains that alembic need it but turn it off any way. only the Groom and Alembic Groom Importer should be on. For some reason 4.27 will not let you have groom on with the Geometry Cache off.
There is a simple change in the process when converting a multi-part DAZ hair in Blender, as follows: When selecting the hair parts before conversion you should first select the Cap then select CTRL+I to invert the selection. Once inverted then select the Cap again using the Shift+LMB. Now use the Convert Hair add-on tool as usual. The goal is to select all of the hair components first then select the Cap last. By selecting the Cap first and then inverting the selection it causes all the other hair components to be selected. The final Shift+LMB on the Cap adds the Cap back as the last selected item.
Great tutorial! I'm looking forward to Part 4 because I seem to have a lot of issues with the hair going wild like it's in a tornado when I turn the physics on.
Heya, great series but it seems like it doesn't work for african/very curly hair? I'm trying to convert the Daiosa Hair Genesis 8, but it just turns it straight?
My hair has bones attached to it and multiple options under materials e.g bangs, there is not just 1 hair material. How would I got about the set up for the hair conversion plugin?
Hi David, I purchased the Janey hair from DAZ and was able to get it to work very nicely. @@insumostudios3413 Thank you for getting back so quickly, you have defo earned a sub :). For some reason once I press convert, the cap ends up at a different angle compared to the hair, they overlap in a strange way and can't be separated. Have you encountered this issue?
@@davida4641 I did not have that issue. I would verify the export from Daz. Make sure the Hair is part of the character, not a separate object, it should display as a child item under the character. Then make sure the character is selected before exporting.

@@insumostudios3413 That's it, I figured it out, thanks. The problem was with an outdated plugin, I updated it. By the way, don’t know how to fix a hair ponytail? Hi, did you figure out how to deal with hair like this as I am experiencing the same thing and I am not getting the Groom import in Unreal either but I suspect the latter issue might due to the hair strands without cap difference?

Hi Josha, there are a few Daz hair styles that are created using a different process, so the groom conversion steps shared here will not work.
I'll be posting the next video later tonight.
