    Thank you so much for such a nice and informative video! I have to say the Internet is rather fantastic. I have been making papier maché bowls and animal sculptures ( dragons, badgers and foxes mostly) for years and have felt rather alone as I knew about no one who did the same, and now I go out on YT and find fantastic videos like yours and realise I am part of a creative tribe, that is great! Those acorn houses are utterly adorable. I am so glad to have found your channel and now I will have such a nice time watching your other videos!

    I think I may be turning my cardboard house into a fairy house and I'm kicking around ideas for making "organic" shaped walls. this is on my top 2 list. Thank you for sharing.

    I tweaked your recipe a little for the egg carton clay. Instead of tearing up the dry carton (which my hands and head recoil from) I first placed the whole carton in the sink with hot water then poured boiling water over it. Let it sit 15 minutes. Then tore them up....may hands thanked me and my soul returned. Then I chopchopped in the Ninja. Sadly, the unit must be shot. It was after a friend who passed and I think it has to be very dull....it doesn't do anything well. Anyway........I did 1/4 your recipe and was happy with the results. I also added dried decomposed wood (it's like coffee grounds but finer, wet brown in the tree, medium brown when dried. It added some nice texture and absorbed the bit of extra moisture. I plan to use this for paths leading up through the forest understory surrounding the fairy treehouse, then paint with white glue then press in the finely grained composted wood. It comes from the interior of a downed tree that's been on the ground for many years. I made a similar clay with just the composted wood a couple weeks ago and liked that too, but talk about texture! Thanks for all your vids, I always learn SO MUCH!!

      I use your 3-layer mash up for most of my builds. I loved making the woodstove (barrel stove) complete with fire and led light. I've also made your outhouse but it's now a garden shed. For stone walls I'll place the egg carton in hot water to soak thoroughly before ripping into stone shapes. My hands can't handle the tough, dry stuff. I'll be making organic walls like yours inside my forest fairy tree house (hollowed out log) diorama. Been working on that for a month now, about to assemble the outer unit. So far all I've made is the furniture and accessories. Plus mushrooms and smaller, organic fairy houses to scatter around the diorama scene. Thank you for all this incredible inspiration!!

    When you mentioned being careful of the mold in the Olympics I know what you mean. My daughter worked at Kalaloch Lodge for three years and her car would have mold all over if she wasn't vigilant in washing it.

    In the Netherlands it is common wallpaper glue (cellulose/starch based) for paper mache..
    I just hate how long it takes to dry. So I prefer your alluminium foil, masking tape and paper towel.. or use newspaper instead.

    I use the liquid cornstarch as the 'glue' when I make spun cotton characters. It will hold the cotton layers together but it doesn't stick to everything like glue and water. So much easier to work with.

    Hi Sharon, I've soaked my cardboard overnight and only then worked with it. I don't know if that really makes a difference. I think it's just a harder product to work with. Either way it's nice and solid afterwards. Yobanka art has a brilliant recipe for cold clay. Lovely for finer details as well.

    • @WhereTheGnomesLive
      @WhereTheGnomesLive  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Barbara! Can you clarify what your first sentence means? You soaked it overnight but I don’t know what you mean after that, lol sorry it might just be me having a brain glitch

    • @barbaragrace1992
      @barbaragrace1992 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WhereTheGnomesLive haha. Old habit of mine. I think people can read my mind. I soak the cardboard overnight and then put it through the blender and the rest is similar to yours. I break it up first of course. I only mixed it with glue and a bit of dishwasher soap, maybe a tablespoon, I think it does the same as salt but I suspect salt is better.

    • @WhereTheGnomesLive
      @WhereTheGnomesLive  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@barbaragrace1992 ohhh lol no worries, I sometimes do the same. Today I’m working with the clay I made from egg cartons/paper cup trays and it’s definitely a smoother clay than the clay made from cardboard. They both work great but for smoother surfaces I’ll be using martial similar to egg cartons.

    • @WhereTheGnomesLive

      4 cartons. Be sure to remove any labels if your cartons have those

    • @Feeoryne
      @Feeoryne หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WhereTheGnomesLive so, I should put one bottom egg carton in the blender at a time, right?

    • @WhereTheGnomesLive
      @WhereTheGnomesLive  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Feeoryne put in as much as your particular blender can handle. My ninja blasts through a half a carton at a time but that could be different for yours. Try one half, see what’s left after you hit the button.. if there’s larger pieces after a minute or so just take those out and put them in the next batch you put in.
