Rewatching all of this trial again and there are only a few moments of breaking in the entire thing. I don't believe it was shot in one take (though I may be wrong) but that's still pretty good at staying in character. Tim breaks when he brings up The China Connection. When he turns to then say "I was sold a bill of goods" he clearly turned to hide a laugh. Gregg was clearly actually loving the Dr. San interrogation, even outside of the character being happy San is dead/being caught. The actor that plays San is a friend of Gregg's so you can tell he's loving that and the absurdity of it. Long story short, this entire thing remains a really awesome bit of comedy.
When Tim is inevitably found Innocent, I think we will see him take a new venture in his life. Music, restaurant management, and book publishing were all things Tim was excellent at, but we can now see that his true destiny lies in law. I think we will see more of Tim Heidecker, defense attorney.

I’m a criminal trial lawyer of over 20 years and I have never in my career seen a more forensic and incisive cross examination than Heidecker v Turkington. Genuine masterclass that is rightly studied in law schools across the country.
What I love about Tim's comedy is how he personifies irrationality, shows how offense and privilege are used to defend against accusations, critique and culpability. This mock trial is brilliantly conceived and glorious in its accurate depiction of the inanity and cognitive disabilities too many of us continue to operate under. One of the greatest things he characterizes is how offended guilty people get when they're held to account for their actions, how offensive they find that, how absolutely aghast they are that anyone would choose to prosecute them for crimes they've done, like mistakes are going to be made, lives are going to be lost, abuse is going to happen, but that's due to the choices people make, not b/c of anything they themselves have caused or done, so we ought to just move on and forgive them their transgressions, like lawlessness and chaos, rather than law and order, is how the world works or how it should. That mentality is so bonkers, so much fun to display and act out, so much fun to see how ridiculously selfish and irresponsible and inconsiderate and disrespectful its orientation to the world is, it makes us more human just to see how egotistical and unintelligent it is-- the whole "show the wrong way to learn the right way," the "this is how you don't treat other people" method of teaching. Absolutely glorious.

I love this kind of American humor. Especially the cheesy intro screens with gavel and scale of justice. It is at its funniest when it most closely resembles a US law court. The incorporation of interrogation room footage is ace.

I’m a criminal trial lawyer of over 20 years and I have never in my career seen a more forensic and incisive cross examination than Heidecker v Turkington. Genuine masterclass that is rightly studied in law schools across the country.
That guy on the stand who so rudely interrupted Heidecker is obviously jealous of Heidecker's superior intellect.
I'm still in shock that the majority of this trial was improvised.
What I love about Tim's comedy is how he personifies irrationality, shows how offense and privilege are used to defend against accusations, critique and culpability. This mock trial is brilliantly conceived and glorious in its accurate depiction of the inanity and cognitive disabilities too many of us continue to operate under.
One of the greatest things he characterizes is how offended guilty people get when they're held to account for their actions, how offensive they find that, how absolutely aghast they are that anyone would choose to prosecute them for crimes they've done, like mistakes are going to be made, lives are going to be lost, abuse is going to happen, but that's due to the choices people make, not b/c of anything they themselves have caused or done, so we ought to just move on and forgive them their transgressions, like lawlessness and chaos, rather than law and order, is how the world works or how it should.
That mentality is so bonkers, so much fun to display and act out, so much fun to see how ridiculously selfish and irresponsible and inconsiderate and disrespectful its orientation to the world is, it makes us more human just to see how egotistical and unintelligent it is-- the whole "show the wrong way to learn the right way," the "this is how you don't treat other people" method of teaching. Absolutely glorious.
