  • How to configure SSH on your Cisco Switch.
    In this video we connect to a Cisco 2950 switch using a console cable, USB to serial cable, and Putty. Second, we go over how to erase a switches configs and vlan.dat file. Next we configure the device for SSH access and then we test and verify the connection. This is a complete step-by-step SSH configuration on a Cisco 2950 switch. As a bonus we explain what it means when you receive the Network error: Connection refused message. If you have any questions please feel free to ask below.

    Hi D
    In Windows you can make a shortcut for putty that automatically opens a saves profile (saving some clicks). Lets say you have a profile saved called "SW1". You can then create a desktop shortcut to the putty program and then append "@SW1", so it looks something like "....putty.exe @SW1". Clicking that icon now launched the profile in putty directly. If you have 4-5 of these you use often, you can put them in you launchbar - or even add keyboard short-cuts to launch them. Just a very small timesaver....
    btw: Still windows dings ;-) Aside for that great video, and thanks for the S/O on twitter

    Hey Du'An, nice video. I didn't know you could specify the 1024 bit encryption in one command with the modulus command. Also, I passed the ccna a few weeks ago. Working on the CCNP Switch now because it is SOOOOOO easy. I mean it's like comptia A+ easy! I guess once you get a majority of the scary concepts of the cisco world, the rest just comes to you naturally.

    • @sdrtyrtyrtyuty
      @sdrtyrtyrtyuty 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Du'An! I've set a goal to pass the CCNP switch in about a month. Then take 3 months for route and 3 months for tshoot and hopefully be CCNP first thing 2018. Also, it seems like the CCNP switch is ALOT of the CCENT/CCNA review stuff like STP and etherchannel. Can you confirm? Or am I studying outdated content?

    • @sdrtyrtyrtyuty
      @sdrtyrtyrtyuty 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow 5 months! I would be more motivated to complete this but seems like MANY people are saying to not get the CCNP until you have actual real world experience in the networking field or else employers will think suspicious thoughts on how you got CCNP with no experience. (Most people say the CCNA's theyve interviewed knew just about nothing about networking in the interview).
      Maybe I just overstudied for the CCNA? LOL but this is nice. I have already been labbing switch material for my CCNA studies so I am already proficient in VTP, DTP, EC, STP, etc etc. There are a few new topics but they are so easy to grasp.
      I am using ITProtv with don pezet to study, its about 12 hours of content. Also, I think it put your post into spam mode because of the amazon link :)

    • @sdrtyrtyrtyuty
      @sdrtyrtyrtyuty 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. I am using cisco equipment to power my home internet which helps in learning this stuff so I am always watching for when things go wrong. I finally caused a spanning tree loop today which was a scary sight seeing lights blinking a million times a second haha. I put on my resume that I am CCNA certified at the top and under education I put that I am currently studying for the CCNP and have had a few employers ask me how the CCNP is going.
      Also, congrats on the interview man! GL in SF!! I just got word that I should be expecting an interview soon working for the govt. Anything I should be ready for? How will they take it when I say I have experience but only in my home lab? It is a network admin job with no sysadmin responsibilities which is great.

    If I earn this cert it would make me MCSE Windows 10. However, there are not many resources out there, I was wondering what should you think I should do.

    Hey duan excellent tutorial. But i have a question! When you entered the syntax vty...what does that mean and what does it do? I got a little confused as to why you entered that. Thanks again!

    • @LabEveryday
      @LabEveryday  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi thanks. Vty stands for Virtual teletype (VTY). You use vty lines to remotely connect and manage your device. You set your vty line password and then you can login via ssh or telnet from your pc, laptop, or another router or switch. I plan to go more into this in the future.

      Don't feel down I have worked around guys that pass many tests and have many certs but have no drive or hunger OR desire to do the job right because they have all the qualifications and expect that to work for them. You will have a totally different level of desire and motivation due to the struggle and work which will carry over into the job.
