Thank you for the breakdown, I am currently studying for my CCNA and its good to be able to see the setup process being done by a live person rather than just reading about it.
I've had my CCNA for a year now, and I'm going for an entry level networking position now! I have had this Cisco switch for the longest time, never really knowing what to do to get started despite my certification. Your videos are what I've been needing. Very well done, and thank you. You've helped me out a TON.
Thank you my man. You are the first I've seen to literally take us step-by-step. Most folks already have us at the terminal and I'm here wondering, "how am I suppose to connect the cables and how do I access the router through PuTTY?"
I watched a lot of your videos interviewing mostly network engineers and what certs to get. This was the first time seeing you go through step by step on how to put together a device. They have the saying picture perfect. Well this video is precisely on point. You nailed it. I graduated in 2017 (Networking Technology). I've always seen the putty icon on college desktop computers but never knew exactly why it was there. Most everything in our Labs were already configured and connected. Funny thing about it, we did use switches and routers. So fortunate enough to have you on TH-cam. Thank you.
I was missing a USB converter. I am so thankful for your video. I watched other videos on how to connect the switch, but the other videos are to long with unnecessary information. Also quick side note, I am a 23yr old black man, and it feels good to see another black man in the field I am trying to get into. Again thank you.
I was looking for traineeship for a while to understand this kind of instructions that we can't get from normal CCNA courses and this video was really helpful for me to see how to connect to a Cisco's device in the real world. Thank you so much bro. You are Awesome !
I sent this video (and your whole channel) to a colleague who will be beginning their CCNA RS journey. Keep the videos coming as you are inspiring many people who don't look like the stereotypical "network admin/engineer." God Bless.
Thank you! This video actually showed me at 5:20 why I couldn't connect to my switch. Hopefully tonight I'll be able to connect! Many thanks! Great video and much appreciated!
Yo! thanks man. I love the content. I was instantly transported back to my childhood when I was being shown how to do things by my older brother.... the background music is good and your common since, very direct approach to breaking things down for practical use is refreshing. Keep up the good work bro. I did like and subscribe.
I agree. This is an excellent instructional video. I worked on 2 Cisco routers in my previous job and I wanted to refresh my memory of how its done. From what I can remember Du'An's instruction is right on the mark. Please, if at all possible, edit out the music. You don't need it and it is distracting. Thank you
Thank you. Very good instructions to follow. Will be your subscriber now. Starting CCNA certification and just bought the switch 29 and 39 series switches. Thanks again.
This was valuable, wrapping up my Network+ and preparing for an Entry Level job as a Network Associate Tech.. one thing that i didnt exactly practice was that intial physical configuration set-up process..
Thank you so much ........I have completed my CCNA course from a local academy of cisco. I am familiar with packet tracer that is a simulation software .........your tutorial is more helpful than interacting with cisco ios in packet tracer.
Man oh man. am I glad I found your channel. You are very clear and get to the point quickly. I am doing this at work, with my supervisor's blessing but I still have to keep up with my work load and on not have a lot of time for ramblings. Thank you. Keep the instructionals coming.
Mr. Lightfoot, You did an outstanding job with this tutorial. I looked at a few before yours and they didn't have the step-by-step process with all the items needed for setup so I was still confused as to how to do it. Thank you for the time you took out of your schedule to help us people who are just starting to learn about these things. Keep up the good work!
Best video out there, but please turn the music a bit lower. Sometimes it was hard to understand you because of it since I'm not a native English speaker.
Thank you so much! I just got a catalyst 1000 series switch and my unit had a mini usb type b port and I just so happened to have one of those types of cords lying around. Using usb type c and your video here I was able to set up the switch! Thank you so much 🙏🏽 God bless!
I have little curiosity to know about cisco physical switch configuration. Though i have learned the switch configuration on cisco packet tracer virtually but i didn't guess about physical configuration. So it was enough helpful to me. Thanks a lot.
Well must admit that you are one of the best when you explain how to do it. It all makes sense. Thanks Next video would be nice if it was how to make a image of an old switch and then use on a new one.
great video, swear im going to get my CCNA.. taking my CCENT on the 5th of next month, going to keep watching your videos brother, you are a inspiration to younger brothers like me.
You are a life saver.. I just got a switch that I can practice on but I could not find videos that show me how to get started from scratch. This video put my mind on ease. Thanks a lot for taking time to make these videos. Question: once I follow your directions in this video can I wipe the switch clean so I can start over and practice.
+Mudassar Rehman You are welcome. Yes you can do a erase startup-config and then reload. That will boot to the default image. From there you can configure it how you like.
I'm glad I found your videos. Very informative! Just got my hands on a Catalyst 3560 and I got a CCNA book. Keep the vids coming. Let us know how to support!
From those of us that have home labs, great hands on man! I just got mine a few weeks ago and honestly still doing routing mostly. I got to do some LAN labs soon. Please do some more hands on, and nice tshirt!
Thanks for the video. I was able to get into an old Cisco 3550 that was in the trash at work. Need to reset the password to get into it and use for CCNA prep. Thanks again.
Your video at end 6:50 after correct the port com3 My screen non stop messages it says certification expired message for all night my router Cisco 1900 s I can’t configured the router the green high light keep moving with messages please help
Thannk you for the video. very informative for fresh engineers like myself. My question is I have a Huawei Switch having some existing configurations. Now am using it for a different project. I have never configured a switch before. So please I want to know what is the general steps involved in configuring a switch because I see there a ports configurations, VLAN, IPs, etc. which one must I do first ? In short I need a concise introduction. Please help. Appreciates your video a lot. thank you.
Thanks useful info. In device manager I didn't see anything labeled ports but maybe that's because I didn't have anything plugged into the usb besides my mouse.
the part where you said "boom connected" mine started giving me random rapid text in console. ive tried every baudrate known to man. any clue what im tripping on here?
My switch has a serial console port. Will that cable you use still work? Do I just connect the Rj45 part to my computer? Or do I need a serial to serial cable? Thanks!
hi i'm no expert and never had to use these before but there is a usb to RJ45 cable available. would that not work ? as it would not require the 2 seperate cable .
Wait.. I don't understand. I have a console cable that is usb - rj45. Wouldn't this be considered a 'serial' connection? I know this sounds stupid but.... asking for my sake lol.
Yes, but you have to tell putty which com port your windows system is using. Go into Device Manage > Ports > and it will tell you which COM port to enter.
nice video bro i have just one question if we have a network which is connected through router then to switches then how can we connect the switch to putty will we connect it using the IP of router & take control of switch ?
Hi mate, I wanna build my CCNA home lab as I’m currently studying for my icnd1. I already have cisco 2960 PoE 24 port switch. I need at least two more switches and one router. Can you tell me which mode or switches and router should I buy please ?
Great vid .. I do have a question tho I'm getting a NSM degree however I'm having trouble with configuring switches and routers do you have any tips of program I can use to help me with that ? Thanks
why did you entered no for 'initial configuration'? I honestly thought that to get into the switch you have to enter yes. what does that mean? -- to do an initial configuration
i totally understand candice! i learned the hard way recently haha, of course my jerk instructor made fun of me :-/ but i guess thats why ill always remember to click N!!
I have taken CCNA theory classes but never took practical classes
Thanks to you now I know how to configure a Cisco switch practically
Thank you for the breakdown, I am currently studying for my CCNA and its good to be able to see the setup process being done by a live person rather than just reading about it.
It took ten videos before I got to yours before I actually was put at ease on how you initially get connected to the switch. Good job.
+Elliott Fulker Thank you. This made my day!

This is how to learn networking. Good music and an educated teacher.
Now I got an idea how they physically put wires on it. Tnx for video man. God bless you.
Thank you! This video actually showed me at 5:20 why I couldn't connect to my switch. Hopefully tonight I'll be able to connect! Many thanks! Great video and much appreciated!

+oureboxr Thank you. If you have video suggestions let me know.
Easy to follow instructions, just followed along and was able to login into my switch without any problems. Thanks for the vid!

Thanks and I will keep that in mind for future videos.

@@LabEveryday Music was great, maybe you should add subtitles to this video to fix the low volume mic problem.
I agree, otherwise it’s a quality video

Best video when you try to while listening to the beat.
Do you have a video on how to identify the ip address of the connected devices, what vlan, etc?
Bro so helpful this video. Shortly the best !! Thanks a lot
Great video! I'm just getting into this and this video was very helpful!
why did you entered no for 'initial configuration'? I honestly thought that to get into the switch you have to enter yes. what does that mean? -- to do an initial configuration
Initial configuration walks you through an automated installation. It’s recommended to configure the switch manually with your own configuration.
i totally understand candice! i learned the hard way recently haha, of course my jerk instructor made fun of me :-/ but i guess thats why ill always remember to click N!!
dope thanks !! and I don't mind the music
Great information & channel, subscribed!
