This performance is considered by many as a masterpiece cover for Jay's original. The vocal olympics she displays comes with a price, however. The strain on one's voice to perform, like she does here, can damage one's vocal chords over time. She was advised to not sing this again as she did here, as her young vocal chords could suffer permanent injury.
Thanks for the English subtitles. Angelina just took over SJHs song and put her stamp on it that will last for generations. Afterwards Angelina tones it down with IPASOY but still worth a look. Seb, by the end of this year millions and millions of people will have discovered Angelina for the first time and besides listening to her current music at the time they will be privileged to listen to her video's when she was much younger. She is reintroducing real music to people all over the world and that will be so good for the young people who listen to a lot of crazy stuff. If they like that stuff that's okay. But they won't be able to ignore what Angelina will put on the table for them.

Angelina is simply the best singer Iâve ever heard. Youâre right that she pays homage to Hawkins, but itâs all Angelina. Sheâs 9 years old here, and this is her own arrangement. When you showed Screamin' Jay in the beginning, I thought you would be one of the few reactors that would recognize the candle she had made with Screamin Jay's picture on it in order to honor him, but you were talking into the camera & missed it at 2:03 on your video. You should check it out since she often add little tid bits you have to search for. Notice her giving her last minute "wishes" to the music director, which are changes to the arrangement, all done by Angelina.
Done in Jay's original style, AJ takes out the theatrics and puts in the emotions that match the words, perhaps as Jay originally intended before the drunken(?) studio session. A masterpiece.

I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! Great reaction. You can appreciate more than most since you have watched some of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' performances of his song. What impresses me most, is that if you watch every version of this song that Screamin' Jay did, you will find some differences and it is obvious that Angelina has watched carefully each version, because it seems that she brings in elements of each performance and includes all the different variations that Screamin' Jay did. She doesn't soften the song, but she certainly makes it more musical and tonal rather than the screaming that Jay did, although he was a pretty good musician himself and not just a "shock rock" artist. I think this performance is one of the greatest jazz/blues vocal performances of all times by anyone of any age.

The strain on one's voice to perform, like she does here, can damage one's vocal chords over time. She was advised to not sing this again as she did here, as her young vocal chords could suffer permanent injury.

When you showed Screamin' Jay in the beginning, I thought you would be one of the few reactors that would recognize the candle she had made with Screamin Jay's picture on it in order to honor him, but you were talking into the camera & missed it at 2:03 on your video. You should check it out since she often add little tid bits you have to search for. Notice her giving her last minute "wishes" to the music director, which are changes to the arrangement, all done by Angelina.
Done in Jay's original style, AJ takes out the theatrics and puts in the emotions that match the words, perhaps as Jay originally intended before the drunken(?) studio session. A masterpiece.

I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point.
Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Great reaction. You can appreciate more than most since you have watched some of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' performances of his song. What impresses me most, is that if you watch every version of this song that Screamin' Jay did, you will find some differences and it is obvious that Angelina has watched carefully each version, because it seems that she brings in elements of each performance and includes all the different variations that Screamin' Jay did. She doesn't soften the song, but she certainly makes it more musical and tonal rather than the screaming that Jay did, although he was a pretty good musician himself and not just a "shock rock" artist. I think this performance is one of the greatest jazz/blues vocal performances of all times by anyone of any age.

At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money.
