Video will hopefully save my ADC Sound Shaper SS-425X. The small cap that you pointed out was definitely bad on my unit, just ordered a new 100v 47uf cap. Can't wait!
In the factories they do crimp the components legs so they self locate in the PCBs and they don't come out in the flow solder bath the boards go through. It was quite a common in the manufacturing process at the time and I saw it happen in all the factories I visited when I worked in the Hi Fi Trade. Of course when we buy replacement components they come with straight legs. The manufacturing of equipment was amazing to watch. The machines that ran the components through the whole process was all so quick and automated. The only time humans were involved was minimal and focused on assembly and testing things.
From my days at Pioneer and Matsushita (late 80s/early 90s), only SMT were machine produced, anything with conventional sized components was manually produced on lines by hand including shaping the components before going through flow solder, inspection and icq testing. In the days as a hifi dealer, this was true also for the majority of other japanese brands I delt with, smaller british brands just used small smt jigs with solder paste manually rather then machines!
Thank you so much for this video. I have two of these equalisers and both displays flicker. I have a request, would it be possible for you to make a video on how to replace a rattling cooling fan on Technics SEA909 power amplifier?
From memory I think they use the same fans on other amps and receivers of this age so when one comes in with this fault I`ll cover it - in the meantime just try some contact cleaner on the fan bearings see if it helps a bit
Great video. I have this problem. Where can I get a high quality replacement? Looked on ebay but can't see a similar one. Am I just typing in 100uf35v or are there different sizes? Thanks!!
Thanks for the video! I replaced the caps and resoldered the transistors and everything that seems suspicious. The flickering and brightness issues solved. But one problem remained. Sometimes there is no display at all and I have to knock or hit the chassis near the display to work again. What do you think?
Hi Mate, I did this fix on mind and it was perfect. I've got a sony v902 graphic that the right side is alot dimmer than the left. Have you encountered this problem and found a fix.
Hello, I have a Technics SH E85, it works fine, but the equalizer display, some bars have shadows, is there any way to return the bar lights to their original state?
Hi what is ur eBay shop called? Also I have the same problem on my shge90 sound processor, what do you think if I find the right capacitor and instead of soldering just cut old one off and join the new one to old stumps as I haven’t any experience in soldering??
I have two of these technics processor's one plays just fine and the other one shows all the symptoms shown in your video where can I purchase the correct capacitors to rejuvenate my SH GE90 cheers
Hi there Sort It Out Man Great video. Thanks. I have a Technics ch950 system and whilst the displays are dim on all components, it has developed a buzz/hum I think coming from the sound processor. It makes the noise when any source is pressed ie tape cd phono. through speakers and headphone socket on amp. Sometimes the noise is quite loud most other times not so. Testing the components with a similar system and the process of elimination indicates that it is the SP. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks again. Now to have a look through your channel. Happy new year.
Hi my display is flickering and I have taken the top off but doesn’t look like that capacitor is leaking and can’t test it do you think if I change it that’s definitely the problem?
Hi, caps don`t usually have visible signs of failure unless they are really far gone, most can fail but "look" fine - you`d only know via tested it with a esr meter or changing it in this case - if you feel up to the job, its worth just swapping it out anyway.
I have the same DSP, and the display only works with a source like a cd player and not the preamp out from a receiver. Would have to crank the volume high to see some action. any ideas what am I doing wrong? thanks
it needs to be on a line level output, ideally you want an amp thats designed for these, it will have a set of 4 sockets on the rear labled something like "ext" or "processor" and have linking plugs over the terminals as not been used.
Yes, I tried a few amps with dedicated pre-amp, power-amp, outputs and also tried to connect it to Technics SA-TX50, and this one has the dsp inputs. Still wouldn’t lit until played very loud (in my headphones)
Displays dim over time from use, so if you`ve not got any actual display issues now, changing the others would not do anything other then just safeguard the unit.
have you changed the second one I mention next to it? The fault is usually the display scrolling across and dimness as it scrolls - the actual displays themselves will dim with age and heavy useage as with any fl display
Hi. I have a problem with Technics Sound Procoessor. Display section corresponding with left speaker has a kind of glitch. Last three bars show the same values (5, 12, slightly below 5) even when no sound going through the speakers. There is no any distortion, crackling on high frequencies. Checked cables - all ok. Nothing audible. When signal is loud enough in three frequencies the bars go easily above. However when it’s below, or no sound at all, them bars are stand still. Does anybody have an idea why this is happen?
Thank you. fixed it with my poor soldering. It was 100uf 35v capacitor. Display nice and bright flicker free. Once again thank you
Glad it helped!
Thanks for ur excellent tutorial, just repaired my unit, faulty cap, just as you predicted.
Glad it helped

Hello Friend! I have the same DSP Technics with exactly the same issue! Thanks a lot for this information! 👍👍
Happy to help
here too. Thanks!
I love you man the best video ever! No more issues in my eq
No probs :-)
Very good video. Nice tip for chasing power issues. I'll keep this in mind.
no worries

Done it. Works a treat. Thanks for the video.

Hi sir, my Kenwood ge 7i spectrum analyzer no display problem,. Could you please suggest me on the problem ? Thanks
Hi Mate, I did this fix on mind and it was perfect. I've got a sony v902 graphic that the right side is alot dimmer than the left. Have you encountered this problem and found a fix.
sorry no, but it could be many things causing that - I`d check the pcb behind the display for dry joints first
@@Sortitoutman cheers for the reply mate, I'll take a look.
Hola estimado tengo este ecualizador y de un momento a otro dejo de funcionar una parte de los comandos de Voice mute y key con si me pudieses ayudar
Hello, I have a Technics SH E85, it works fine, but the equalizer display, some bars have shadows, is there any way to return the bar lights to their original state?
most likely age related dimming - happens to displays if they have been powered on most of their life.

Thanks you sir.
I have Panasonic sa ch55 the upper display is fine but the lower equiliser display is very dim, please help me how to fix it

I have them on my ebay shop(the_hifi_guy) or any good electronics component retailer
Thank You, good tip !

Great vid. I have the same problem, i already change that capacitor (it was also leaking) but the display its still dull. Help

Hi. I have problem with Kenwood KE-7090. Display is dim.
if its been left on a lot (i.e a lot of use) then thats normal with age.

Sounds like a dry joint on the solder connection to the lcd panel on the PCB.
There is no image on the screen, will this method help?
most likely a bad display
How much is this likely to cost as a repair please?
any half decent repair store should only charge half an hour to an hour labour and a few quid for the parts
PLEASE THAT IS LOCATED THE SPOILED CAPACITOR ?
Hola. Yo tengo el mismo aparato ..y parpadea la pantalla. Alguien sabe cuál es la solución ???
It’s works really well!Thanks a lot!🙏👌😊
You're welcome 😊
