That's really cool! I always assumed it was measuring the amount of red light coming back because of the venous blood absorbing some of it, and that it somehow used that. I would have never thought it used the changing finger volume!
Nick Moore In the US the S6 only had the heart rate function, but the sensor could have done full measurement. I guess Samsung didn't want to bother getting FDA clearance (not that costly as risks are minimal and the method is well characterized)
Nick Moore they would just have to show it works similarly to lots of already cleared products. (rather than certification or approval the FDA has a classification that says "we've looked at things like this and health claims aren't being made, and harm is extremely unlikely" ) They really should have had a replaceable battery for the 7... cheaper to scrap the entire line than set up for replacement.
+AL Haidar Glad you like them. It may still be possible to measure blood oxygen with a camera but I think it would take careful callibrate that would not be possible without special equipment.
hmm ok, i think I have to look into it more. I wish if you make a video on how exactly the fingerprint scanner work on a mobile phone like an iPhone or Samsung And do you think it's possible to put the fingerprint scanner on top of the display? Me, I don't think so, but Samsung said that she was going to put it on the new Galaxy S8 but they don't have time and apple just file a pattern for this technology What do you think?
Nick Moore it uses two wavelengths and a single pixel light sensor separate from the camera. oxygenated blood has a different absorbtion spectra and a simple two wavelength measurement can determine spo2
I'm so glad AvE pointed me your way man, you deserve way more subscribers, your whole channel is so original!! Fucking genius man
Thanks, apparently there are some new phones that have an IR sensor built in so they can measure your blood oxygen as well. Glad you like my work.

+alex miller The change in absorbed light is itself an indication of the volume of the finger, so you are still right!

Wow! Thanks!
some of the Samsung Galaxy phones have a separate sensor (two narrow bandwidth leds and a light detector) that can give spO2 as well as heart rate.
+Robert Szasz Oh wow, I didn't know they were incorporating that into newer phones. Thanks.

+Robert Szasz With their note thing I'll bet it has been a lot harder for them to get certified lately in the US.

Great content as always.
Edit: Which app is this?
+Fossil98 The one I used was called "Heart rate monitor" but there are lots of others that work the same.
cool!
+Joe Ruter Thanks!
good
очень интересно
+dorgodorato Спасибо, я тоже подумал, что это интересно.
Can you also use the accelerometer?
+DukeLaCrosse20 It should be possible if you lay still and put the phone above your heart but the results would be much less accurate I think.
do you know where is link of dataset
thanks, but how my Galaxy S7 can measure oxygen saturation? I mean how can it know how much oxygen in my blood
+AL Haidar The clip-on meter uses Infrared light to measure oxygen, a phone camera can only measure heart rate.
Nick Moore I really like your videos keep up, and thanks again.
