Good for you Kevin and congrats for you second Airtrek. I feel your frustration. I gone down the same path, endless hicup and and gremlins need to sort out. I think it's just that these cars started to get cheap and the previous owners felt that the value of the car was not worth the maintenance effort and cost so they eventually get ran down to the ground. We enthusiasts are picking them up at the bottom of the barrel. It is only normal that we will have to put in extra effort to right the wrongs of the past owners.
I find these cars are actually awsome utility cars and alot more people are starting to realize that. Making these cars more sort after as they are very attainable. I felt that I need to save the car I just bought and return it to its former glory.
@@kevinkonguwu I'm going to do likewise here in my country make a collection of them am sure later people will start looking for them..... they are Legendary Cars
I've been through lots of things including a full engine rebuild, gearbox rebuild, currently got a second transfer case I'm working on. Upgrade the rocker cover vents to an10 if possible. I deleted the PCV system and run it into a catch can that recirculates before the turbo. The only way to fix your gearbox issues properly is to laser weld the planetary gears in place which I believe is documented for the evo 7 gta gearbox which is the same. Well worth it and capable of a lot more power afterwards
Hi Bradley. Thank you so much for all your advice. You are spot on everything. I did increase oil catch can hoses on both valve covers to AN10 and installed a larger twin entry 1 outlet oil catch can. Laser welding the plentitary gears in the gearbox. Is not something I m familiar with.

I bought an Airtrek about a month ago after commenting on your previous vid. Facelifted the car to 05 model, replaced leaked coilover suspension with original KYB suspension, replaced exhaust with ralliart exhaust system and currently in the process of painting the car. Next I am planning to do top engine overhaul, replace all oil rings (gearbox and transfer case) and replace old wirings to bring it back to it's glory (and I want it to be reliable as it will be my daily drive). @@mienie0221 I think the lag is approx 600 to 700rpm difference. Maybe even only 500rpm difference. Not much difference in responsiveness between the Td04 vs the gta td05. The big power gains felt at higher rpms makes the gta tdo5 more satisfying to drive. The Td04 runs out of puff at about 5500rpm wherelse the td05 pulls to 6800rpm. Hope this helps. Off dan On switch beberapa kali baru ok balik. Ada pernah jadi tak issue mcm ni? Thanks 😊
Yes they are tough cars. Buy one that has been well maintained. Very reliable and quite robust. Very up to daily driver duty. All the best on your purchase.
If you have checked the obvious radiator and fan culprits, the next thing to look into is if you have had a blow head gasket. Check to see if your engine oil has water mixed into it. It will look like muddy oily stuff in your engine.
Hey My fellow Airtrek owners please when you take your Airtrek to a garage for service the transfer case Oil should always be checked and it's very tricky for mechanics whereby they may assume that the transfer case uses Atf fluid of which not it uses gear oil type SAE EP 85-90 gear oil same as the differential Oil
@@khalidwallace1198 I m a it sure. But from what I have read. Alot of people are welding something within the gearbox. I m not sure what it is or how it's done.
