- My first time venturing into Mitsubishi ownership and starting to learn about the new platform and powertrain. There may be misinformation in my video as it is unscripted and everything was shot off the cuff from my phone. I apologise in advance for the shaky video and bad audio.
Feel free to send me messages to correct my mistakes and leave your thoughts on this video. I will do my best to reply as soon as possible.
Reason I decided to document my ownership of this Airtrek is due to the lack of you tube information on this car. Before I made this purchase I did my usual (as i believe most of us do) youtube and interweb research on the Airtrek Turbo but didnt find much of what i wanted to know.
Thank you and hope you enjoyed the review.
Awesome I've had mine for 5 years now best purchase ever did
How do you find the MPG?
@@timleavy6166 same as most other turbo cars, kinda reminds me of the 180sx
I'm the Airtrek owner too..Good car and looks muscular..Hahahha. It is my daily drive.Comfort ride..running on stock boost, everything is stock except HKS Mushroom, SSQv bov and adjustable absorber hilo bodyshift. For 2003 car no big issue. All oem parts also cheap (do not mention Ralliart haha)
When I was young, my family used to have a 2004 Outlander (rebadged for markets outside Asia and has totally different front end design). That sunroof and moonroof was the first thing I noticed in yours and was amazing to me back then. 😄
The only issue for us was it was quite underpowered, our's had the 160 hp 4G69. The air-conditioning as such was very weak. But apart from that it was very reliable, great car to be in and go places.
Wish Mitsu sold this Turbo R with the 4G63T version outside Asia and in left hand drive. Easily solves the lack of power we had with it.
We have the outlander here as well. Not so sought after. Having said that many are converted to turbo r spec simply by buying a turbo r halfcut n swapping everything across.
Have been waiting for Airtrek video like this. I bought mine in 2019. Also paid 26k for it. To date have spent about 5 k fixing it up. One thing Iv learnt from dealing with second hand car dealer is that dont belive everything they said. My dealer said the car is in excellent condition, couple months later I ended buying new transfer case. The old transfer case dosent have any oil in it, probbly the seal betwen the trans and Tcase busted long ago. The rear absorber were busted, ended replacing with a used goid one. The steering tiptronic gear shifter button was shot. The rear wiper was shot. The steering fluid bottle cap broken. The dashboard got small crack on it. Thank you very much JW autoworld. But in spite of that this still a cracking car. I love driving it, the engine is pretty capable and the handling is quite good. Im gonna fix her up and enjoy driving this car.
Hi gbob, prefer Ron 95 or 97.?
@@ahmadhisham7663 I think both can use. Have tried both but ron 97 I feel more power.
@@gbob1980 Ok, thanks buddy👍
i bought one also 3 years back , for MTB carrier also !! still love to drive it in weekend
its an amazing car indeed
Hello from Kenya. Bought my airtrek 2 months ago. Still fixing her up. Gives me great service as a daily...
Hi bro, planning on getting one soon too. How's it so far?
We should get to have an airtrek Kenya club so that we can have one common goals
So far, the car is great. Amazing power and handling.
@@adrenalineautotweeks6934 yes, we should. Kindly organize.
@@anandabrian9372 working on it Sir & pass word around so that we can treasure this Gems, once one gets an Airtrek owner share the Idea
Hey good stuff.. Bought my car a couple of months back too.. Also a tonne of things to fix too.. One thing I'm happy with this car is the second hand body parts are well priced..
Kenapa ya second hand body parts for this car tak mahal?
@@syarafuddinamir2051 not sure maybe sebab airtrek tak banyak.. What is expensive is all the ramli art stuff
thanks bro.. a lot of information! actually still searching for my airtrek.. currently using Lancer GTe.. 2015. 😉
Great car bro! Im also looking for an Airtrek currently and out of a sudden your video appeared.
I'm a cyclist like you and after I saw your Santa Cruz can fit into the Airtrek without removing the wheel, it just increases my urge to get an Airtrek.
Hahhahah. I love my airtrek. I have finally ftuned the suspension and it is awsome now. High and handling to match its engines performance.. No regrets. You will enjoy its sharp handling characteristics.
@@kevinkonguwu may I know how much is the Ftuned suspension cost?
@@kevinkonguwu do you have any prefered workshop for the airtrek? Where you change the bush and etc for the maintenence.
@@eugenekeith08 If I am not mistaken a set of road touge suspension set would cost aprox rm2500... Worthwhile investment. I didn't have to buy a new set of ftuned suspension. Just engaged them to revalve and tune the current yellow speed racing coil overs I have to suit my requirement.
@@shinrei19 yes. I go to either ah wah in puchong or to retro street garage in Ara damansara.
After this vid I am now in the hunt for an airtrek
Please check out part 2 and part 3 first.
Great video. Detail video on Airtrek I've found.
Bought mine on July 20.
Wonder how much new front & rear under bushing cost you? Arm, antiroll etc
Cheers 👌
Hi tq for the compliment. The bushes were in the vacinity of Rm180 to Rm250 depending on which Bush. The airtrek uses alot of pillow ball bushes which are a little expansive but last a long time and are great for handling. This does not include the cost of installation.
Very detailed, thanks much appreciated
Keep up the update! Very informative
Thanks! Will do!
Great sharing bro, planning to get one soon!
thank you!
More videos on the airtrek please
I have 2 other videos which are continuation to this part 1 of 3

Does the airtrek turbo read 4g63t on the block or does it only read 4g63? I'm trying to find out if Mitsubishi made the turbo blocks without the T on the airtreks models. I bought an airtrek turbo and it has oil squirters but the block reads 4g63 not 4g63t. Thanks for any help.
@@silkmusiq the airtrek turbo has a block that says 4g63. No "t". Standard airtrek turbo engines came without oil squirters. If your block has oil squirters then it was either added onto an airtrek block or your have yourself an airtrek with an Evo block.
Hey Kevin. Great video I must say. AS a new Airtrek owner I have learnt quite a bit from it. I need your help in getting a blower motor, mine is gone. Watching from Jamaica.
Hi TROjon. Thank you for the kind words. We are in Malaysia and it is easy for us to get aircon blower motors. The problem is how do I ship it to you in Jamaica?
Magnificent review
Very informative
Glad you think so!
Do you know if the Evo 7 bonnet fits with modification for headlight clearance?
I know for a fact that the Evo 7 bonnet does not fit at all.
Wife got a Airtrek turbo last year imported to Scotland it’s Black like yours only 38000km so far but completely stock, so really interested to see how your car turns out. Want to improve its performance both in handling and power. There quite rare in the UK so not much info on upgrading them. Have subscribed to watch your car develop..
Hi K Shaw. I have completed this build series and have been dailying the airtrek this is pt1 of 3 videos I have uploaded for the airtrek. Please do let me know if you have trouble finding pt 2 and 3.
engine parts and performance part will be the same for evo 4-8 plug n play as we in Malaysia say it
This car can use evo parts. U can even use lancer parts. Its a cracking car.
@@gbob1980 yes indeed, yes indeed
Have you ever had any transfercase or transmission wave spring issues with your airtreks?
None of the above so far. 4yrs into it as my daily driver.
@@kevinkonguwu good hope I am so lucky

Very strange how the turbo R doesnt have stock oil cooler but the eurospec (outlander) turbo got one
Yeah. They only come with a tranny oil cooler. Mitsu cheaped out on the turbo R.
nice. how many gears does the auto come with? 4 gears?
5 forward gears.
If I may ask what type of oil do you put in the transfer case. Iv heard that the best oil to use is mitsubishi diaqueen lsd sae90 oil, can we put other brand of oil in it.?
Yes I m using mitsu Diaqueen oil as prescribed. I have hear one other brand of oil that works but I cannot remember which.
Thank for the reply
Do you hear any noticable whine from the drivetrain when going to 80km hour. After that the whine not audible.
Does the the drive train felt like binding when flooring the throttle suddenly. Hope to hear from you.
@@gbob1980 no whine not bind from the drive train at all. Very smooth and seamless
Any recommendation for sunroof repairs?
I guess any workshop with a competent mechanic qouls he able to fix the sunroof as they are fairly straight forward.
Hi Kong, are you formerly live near Jalan Raja Laut, KL?
No. It wasn't me
Im thinking of selling evo buy airtrek and keep the extra cash for house deposit (10%)
Hey, have you remapped yours yet?
Still deciding between this or a 2010 Subaru forester. hmmmm
You will have to test drive both to know what u want. If space is primary importance airtrek.
@@kevinkonguwu alright thanks Kevin!!
Get a Forester xt
same with me but with an 2000 Forester Turbo 2.0
Is the evo 7 head and airtrek the same?
Yes. They are the same. Plug and play
Albeit with different cams.
And I take manifold and injectors
Great car!
@@meowtrox1234 yes indeed. I love it. Super practical and fun to drive.
bro im also an owner of 5 years Should manual it :D its waaaaayyy more aggressive
I know it's the way for more direct power but that's not what I bought the car for. This is going to stay auto and my daily.
Which part need to weld to convert to manual. Is it the transfer case only. Do you weld the gear inside the gearbox also or only the spider gear in the transfer case? Do you take out the drive shaft to rear, how to prevent oil from leaking? I am planing to convert my airtrek. At the moment already got Evo 4 manual gwarbox, transfer case and manual pedal clutch.
Can I reuse the auto driveshaft to the Evo 4 manual gearbox? Hope you can help me bro really need the info.
@@gbob1980 I honestly do not know because I have never thought of going manual. I never did my research on it.
Bro, wat do u tink bout fuel csmption? Efficient or not?
Hi mizi. It is not the most economical vehicle to drive in this time and age. There are far more fuel efficient cars to buy in its price range. This is a reliable fun and ulilatarian daily but if you want a car to return you good fuel range. This isn't quite the car for you.
I am currently getting easily 350km per 50 liters of fuel. Also depends on what brand petrol you pump. I usually pump bhp or caltex. Second options will be Petronas and petron. These 4 fuels net similar results. I only pump Ron 95. If this helps.
Can i get your number bro? Need to ask u the contact number for reflash, coz im changing the fuel pump, and the consumption is off by way from it should be
Where can I get a stock actuator for the turbo?
Hi shawn are you located in Malaysia. If yes then you can try Tomei in usj1 and ah wah in puchong.
as a airtrk owner to increase mileage before your turbo kick in is your limit if u keep your turbo spinning your wallet will hate u
Cruise control ?
None
Hi bro,can get ur tuner contact and how much for that?

Sure. Come. Lemme settle all yiur problems
10mpg!!???
standard is around 360 - 400km per tank.
@@87sprintqf do you know what that is in miles per gallon?
@@thedrvn about 20-23 mpg.
@@87sprintqf thanks for reply. Jesus that's bad considering the power.
@@thedrvn it's not really if you compare similar cars of the period, with the same power. For example in Australia you had a Ford or Holden 6 cylinder sedan with the same power (or less) with same or worse fuel economy. They were rwd but weighed similar. Airtrek is also Auto, AWD and over 1500kg... So it was never going to be great on fuel.
