@@midinerd my addiction to Autechre begin before I even knew them. One day as a kid I was travelling near the sea, on a road through the forest, I heard in the distance some earth drilling rig, with all those screeching metal noises reverberating. The more I come closer, the more I was hooked, repetative banging, ugly sounds, yet so captivating, it was life changing experience. Years after that the only music that sounded like that was coming from the experimental electronic genres, so it was just natural continuation from that experience.
autechre is kinda like the bebop jazz movement of electronica, if your not an enthusiast of experimental music then some may find this pretty hard to stomach, i' m infatuated by this band, ive been listening to em for over 10 years, try starting off with albums like Lp5 or Confield, songs like Vose In, Rae, and Arch Carrier are good ones to get ya hooked on. I design websites all day, and Autchre is perfect for getting in the zone for me
How can all of you stand to listen to this? And I don't mean because of the melodic dissonance, I mean because it's like an overload of thought, it's like having a thousand potential realities shoved into your brain... It's frankly amazing, some of the most intelligent, interesting and advanced music I've heard, but jesus, it almost hurts my mind. And before you ask, yes, I'm pretty new to Autechre.
The relief from the onslaught of complexity lies in the monolithic simplicity of form over the course of the song. Autechre like to make very long songs where the instrumentation doesn't actually change too much (though what the instruments are actually DOING is very complex). For example in this track the "snare" is nearly constant and the bass melody hangs around the same notes. This is in contrast to someone like Aphex Twin who brings in a new instrument, melody or groove whenever he feels like it. But with Autechre there's more of the sense that you're listening to the same scene as it morphs and shifts, rather than visiting totally different sonic universes.
Could you point out WHICH presets? I don't discern any, also somebody who is as capable of recognizing presets probably uses them a lot, a case of the pot calling the kettle...? Had I recognized any presets, it wouldn't have subdued the effect this exercise in constrained funk has on me. I am not too puritan when it comes to presets/recognizable synths/fx within tracks by great electronic musicians, as long as the shiz rocks!
Man, this goes hard. Feels like you're in a fuckin' lab with lots of human & animal modifications, the doctor are banging this track while doing his work..
I find it impossible to 'rate' Autechre's music in the typical manner. What are we rating it for, exactly? Melody, coherence, rhythms? Autechre's music is just there to be absorbed and gathered in. Their whole approach to making music is not to produce something that can be given an arbitrary score out of 10 or allotment of gold stars, it's to produce a different sonic world that is its own temporary universe.
Yes. If you listen, though, it has got a beat - just not a monotonous one. Perhaps if you want a monotonous beat, you should look elsewhere. After all, when it comes to monotonous beats, the supply is endless.
they are 1 and 2 for me. this is so gangster i gotta put it above bladelores. bladelores is kinda 'heavy' or 'depressing' compared with this one. just my opinion
No Ben, I don't think that mentioning Cubase is showing off at all. It's just simply what it sounds like to me. I just don't think that this is a good example of Autechre's best work at all.
Certainly not the best Autechre have done IMO. Some nice textures on this track, but it basically sounds like they are flicking through presets on Cubase.
one of the tracks of all time
i think it is rearranging the molecules of my brain..
very cool laid back swagger. very street. and I like the way they've pimped the suspension on this too
Heard screeching brakes outside my work today that sounded like this. One of Ae's best.
Steven Davies lol. started off sounding like an insult but i see. one mans trash is another mans treasure when it comrs to idm
the intercontinental trains coming in for a stop in large train halls has the reverb, hiss, and distance really similar to this track yea

This tune bends my body in three
One of the finest tracks from Exai! Glad to see they are far from going stale.
This groove is as deep as it gets. It will go as far as you take it.
Well said.
+Nathan Clark I dont know if i finally get used to hear this music or at 2:20 this really has a less irregular beat style.
It will go as far as i take it? What does that even mean?
It can't be explained, only felt
it's one of the most relaxed grooves on the record.
the whole album is a difficult listen, yet worth the patience, i think this and recks on are stand out tracks
+Ian Glass i noticed that after a while it's easier and more enjoyable to listen to
This, recks on and bladelores are the best of the whole album
Irlite is the best in the album and top 5 songs they've ever done imo
On that delightful edge of chaotic yet enough beat to delight in brain pattern finding.
5:51 Is such a victory!!!
+Ashecliffe in 06:49 i almost fell off my chair, ha ha...
5:53 where the high reverbed synth joins the main melody - so sick
This is what the ayys listen to when they're surfing through Earths upper atmosphere

cool story bro
i can stand listening to it because it sounds cool

I reckon Exai is a return to Confield, against the move of 10.

Just got the CD from the local record store - ma gawd, this is great beyond belief.
this is what the sky on jupiter must look like it sounds like
woah
1:08 is just godlike.
my favourite track on the LP
I was joking about the money, but this is one of the better tracks on the album IMO.
aw tekker
This is like the best thing ever
i love the melody from 5:30 to 6:30

I think it's more of a display of peak sound technology with a cinematic flare, than it is music.
@@TheoriesOfTheoriesOfEverything i think you just have a rather narrow conception of music
tbh i just rate music on how much my brain likes it. exai is like a 8.5/10 for me

this would be perfect for a scarey suspence moment in some really weird fucked up movie
Where is the cloudline if you are in paralel universe baby?
2:14
anyone else prefer this to bladelores?
sure. cloudline is IMO the best track on the album, whereas bladelores is hardly a top 10 off exai on my list.
