The RK3588 with Mali G610 combo is impressive. Other devices sporting it have been able to emulate the complete PS2 catalogue with ease. You are going to see this affordable chipset dominate the industry in 2023, which is terrific as the price will drop further. I am surprised to see 8GB of LPDDR4 though. Great hardware - software not really good enough. Stay cool man. 👍
I don't think Google or Netflix will certify this chip/ram combo. If it had both of them I would consider this to replace my Shield TV 2015 as Dolphin doesn't work that well and AetherSX2 (Rip!) Is like 5 fps!
Prices can drop even further by using the RK3588S. Same CPU and GPU cores, but cut down IO. Since most TV boxes don't come with NVMe, SATA ports anyway, it won't matter. Mekotronics is an exception, as they have models with NVMe and SATA ports.
I just purchased the 8gb version of ram and I have the same problem from the first 30 minutes of trying it, it freezes and I must disconnect it from the electrical outlet, I have tried everything and I have written to the official support of H96 Max V58 and they left me in sight. The last thing I will try is to install the older version of software since I have tried AC adapters of higher amperage and the same voltage and it keeps freezing. Hopefully we can fix it.
Good review.. I moved on from H96 manufacturers long ago.. Stuck with Nvidia and Formuler and to a large extent Buzz TV as regular updates are crucial for me
I'm on the boat as to whether I should move on now my Nvidia shield has failed. I'd love an updated Nvidia offering and don't want to repeat the mistakes of the past (buying shite box after box) but I might give an RK3588 a go....until (if) Nvidia get their act together.
With nvidia sheild you are better off in the long run , I have the original unit with 500gb HD unit and has never let me down and always updated and security patches
Blame Google and streaming apps, the device is perfectly capable of playing 4k video. Also, paying these dumb licenses would increase the cost without any other benefit than satisfying these artificial limitations.

It's actually pretty good overall experience, with official 4K streaming across the board. Limitations on storage space and RAM, unless you use an adapter, but generally as a streaming device, its very good.
nice review from someone who knows his stuff, I have 2 of the KM6 Deluxe with the 4DDR ram and to be honest I have not seen anything that would make me change it, the KM6 lux plays large files on streaming APK's and I could not get this on the firestick or the chrome tv, it does freeze on really large files 80gb movies but not always, do you still think the apple TV 4K is the best out there?, I think it's about time shield done an updated unit as its 2019 model for the price I think is outdated I mean come on only 3gb of ddr4 ram? my KM6 has 4gb

Did you try connecting external HDD ? Will the external HDD be identified by the device and able to browse files and videos? If yes, will it play a 4k video smoothly from an external HDD?

Yawn... nothing new for 2023, then! Actually, this seems like a bit of a cheeky rip-off advertising itself as an ANDROID TV box. The specs are just average, too, and it looks like it has a failure issue with some apps. Not enough USB ports, no USB 3 input and STILL (amazingly in 2023) no dual monitor output... ...and it's precicely for this reason that I left all iterations of Android boxes behind a year ago and bought a mini PC for my PLEX, KODI, TH-cam and off line viewing content. Best decision I ever made... watch movies on the TV and keep up with the footy scores on the second monitor! Also you can actually DELETE stuff you don't want anymore! (I highly recomend this mouse, though, which you can buy seperately (and cheaply) on Amazon.) It's the best remote you can buy... works on everything!)
The no here comes from the Mali 610 GPU, a poor GPU considering 76,77,78 are available 78 being latest. The g61 in this box is very very old in the tooth. Come on guys let's push the manufacturer to give us better. We are now starting to finally get Andriod boxes with 64 bit abi, let's now push to get a better GPU paring.

I actually bought the homatics last year, and it's not as good as the shield. I use it for the TV in my garage now. Nvidia shield is king buddy. Homatics is okay visuals, at times I could see it drop and it doesn't support 120hz

I wish we could have a proper tv box with the RK3588 + 8 GB of ram + 32GB of storage a least! By proper tv box, i mean one fully certified(4k youtube and all stream services) + using properly ATV 12 or 13.
It does support AV1, however that doesn't mean it works at the software level. Get an SBC like the Orange Pi5 instead of this thing, to ensure you have the freedom to install any software.

Actually on this box there's a lot of wanky issues with it. Says it's rooted that you can't do anything with it It doesn't detect root. So if you're going to be playing any games and you want to change out the game touch screen to something like mantis pro gamepad you won't be able to do that at all. Which is pretty sad and unfortunate because it's got quite great gaming ability. That's a nice box overall I mean physically but it just doesn't live up to the hype what's inside of it I do not like the TV OS Build they were still with stuck with the tablet build

Been using it hardware wise it murders the shield even my pro sadly however the software is absolute crap and a lot of my plex stuff has to transcode because of it wish someone would roll an actual android tv build for this thing.

Because this was advertised as a feature by the seller, but unfortunately after my tests, it was established that its not available.

Several emulators allow widescreen codes to play games properly on your screen, although I believe it's 21:9, but there's even some codes for that.

Firmware updates are available and one was completed at initial stat-up. But don't expect regular updates like the Shield.

I got onde with 8gb of ram and replaced the heatsink. I put one bigger on the chip and two smaller on each memory chip. It does not overheat.

quad A76 cores is too much for the shield tv's A57's tp keep up with. shame really since tegra gpu is still good but the cpu is lacking these days.
