    Wow! 52k with only 180 something hours on a factory reman engine! 😳 That’s freakin amazing! Good for you. That’s the deal of the century. Sweet!

      The most economical way to fly is to join a flying club. Airplane rental may seem expensive to the tune of $100-$150/hour, but you don't have to pay through the nose for annual inspection, repairs, and other maintenance. All of these will be on top of paying the monthly loans on your airplane purchase. Also, aircraft insurance is getting very expensive if you have less than 250hours. So if you are new, join the flight club.

    • @AragornTrueKing
      @AragornTrueKing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@2Phast4Rocket the only issue is, the clubs around my area don't allow you to have a plane checked out for more than a day or two so you can't go on some trips.

    • @Vejitasei
      @Vejitasei 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AragornTrueKing Exactly, my flight club is a member own cooperative (we all buy in). There are a ton of planes compared to most places and they are still nearly all booked, you can not just show up on a sunny day and go, you might get the plane for a few hours but someone else has it right in the middle of the day so long XC are out, taking more than 2 nights is out, etc. etc.
      I had been working on my instrument on and off for several years. Finally just went to a 10d intensive in AZ. I flew for 20+ hrs and got about 20hrs in the sim. That's more flying then I do for the whole year some time. And it was beyond fun. Then back home and back to trying to rent. If money is a limitation this is not the hobby for you :) I can afford to own, yeah it makes no financial sense. BUT I want the ability to go flying whenever I want, for as long as I want, to where ever I want. Having a partner could be cool to keep the plane flying and decrease costs, but this is suppose to be about freedom!

    • @AragornTrueKing
      @AragornTrueKing 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Vejitasei 100% haha luckily I have the GI bill helping me out with my commercial training! Once I get stuff paid off I will definitely get my own plane just to have that freedom!

    Just had the exact same experience as you. Had zero hours of flight time when I bought a Cherokee 140 for my son and I to begin our PPL training. Flew the plane back 4 hours from Missouri and logged my first 4 hours of flight time. Fast-forward a little over a year and both my son and I have our PPL's and he is now at the Air Force Academy. Meanwhile I am a loving life and flying all over the place! 👍🙂
    Good luck to you and hope to hear status updates in the future.

    Great video! Something to think about…. I purchased my airplane (Debonair) about 20 hours after getting my PPL. Now doing IFR in it. You often hear “save money and buy before you train.” But they leave it there. Seeing that you are an audit professional, you are the perfect guy to do a follow up video after you receive your PPL and explain “these are the real numbers on what the cost differences are.” Good luck in your PPL and future ratings!

    • @azcharlie2009

      I bought an airplane right after I got my license. I didn't want to rent, or join a club. I started keeping track of my costs and soon found out it was way to expensive to justify. But, I loved the fact that I could go to the airport when I wanted and fly when I wanted. You can't place a value on that.

    I think one of the hardest things is finding the right CFI. My experience with my discovery flight was that the school grabbed the youngest least experienced green instructor for me. As an older person, it just didn’t click. I really don’t want to go back because they treated me as a second thought.

    • @michaelb.8953
      @michaelb.8953 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get exactly what you're saying. Last year I went to a flight school that I've never been to after being out of flying for 13 years and was a low time private pilot to begin with at 100 hours. I'm in my early 50's and they paired me up with a young kid flight instructor because he didn't have many students and he couldn't have been much older than 22 years old. I only flew with him for two flight hours and we just didn't click. Some of it could have been me as I just couldn't take him seriously as he was around the same age as my own kids and some it was him as I think he was a really good pilot, but he had really bad teaching skills. After I finished the second hour with him I was so disgusted with him I never went back to that school. I could have asked for another flight instructor, but they were all booked up.

    Anthony: You're approaching this in the most economical way possible. And, you're building a bond with the airplane - YOUR airplane that will be taking you through your certificates and ratings. BTW, it looks well taken care of - inside and out. Analog instruments are proven, although capable repair technicians are few. If you do keep your 180, you may want to look into "drop-in" replacements that fit in existing 3-inch mounting holes. Nice presentation - thanks for sharing. Well wishes for your pilot endeavors going forward.

    On finding a good instructor: You should know what you are going to learn every hour before you go up. An hour at the table for every hour behind the yoke. Table time is cheaper than fuel burn. Don't waste your instructor money with someone who just wants to bore holes through the sky to build their own log book. BTW, the PA28-180 is a great choice. ATP737 ret. 5,000hr CFI 20,000hr TT

    WELL DONE! You have done your homework and found a GREAT PLANE! Best of luck in your journey. Yes, success depends on a good flight instructor and a good, honest shop and AP mechanic to keep your plane safe and airworthy. Hope you start a channel so we can follow your progress. You will absolutely love owning and flying your plane! I've been fourtunate to have done that for 40+ years. Mike N2917D
