Hi. As a pilot and aircraft mechanic for more than 30 years, I would say the Cessna 182 is on the top of my personal list without a doubt. The older Cessna182s with the Continental 470 normally aspirated engine are rock solid, easy to fly, and can carry a ton of weight long distances. Almost the perfect all around general aviation airplane. So if there is someone out there looking to purchase an airplane they want to keep their entire flying career the Cessna 182 is your plane. Love the channel, keep up all the great work. Hawk out!!
Be careful when buying a used plane with G1000. Two versions out there: with and without WAAS. There is no upgrade path (except for replacing the entire G1000). If you check the market you will see for example ten 182 planes with G1000. Nine don't have WAAS and the tenth says sale pending.
I like how the C-182 in the video was a Civil Air Patrol Cessna 182. It was the first plane I've flown and I also flew it with the Civil Air Patrol. Probably one of my favorite planes
LOL, my first flight was with CAP in a Super Cub [many, many years ago]. Also have hours in the 172B and a 140. I really should consider restarting my PPL training.
Love the CAP 182, I’m a CAP pilot, and live a few miles from where Cessna builds the 182, Independence, KS. one note, the 182 is not a complex aircraft (unless you’re in an RG), it’s a High Performance, aircraft (200+HP).
I'm 6'6'' and find the smallest airplane I fit into comfortably is a 182. What would you say are the downsides or disadvantages of learning to fly in a high-performance airplane like a Cessna 182? I am just assuming since this is a larger, faster, slightly more complex airplane (due to the constant-speed prop) it will be a "little" more complicated and take a little longer to learn in. Other than the higher cost to rent is there any reason NOT to learn in the 182 and just stick with the standard 172 or Cherokee even if I'm cramped and uncomfortable?
Great video thanks again! Love your content! Want to get flying so badly. Just can’t afford it at all right now. Working hard though so that I can get there and visit my family and friends again 😔
Only thing is, I’m 6’2 about 220. So looking for something comfortable might be kinda tough. Don’t know what single engine starters have in terms of room for my figure.
I love the looks of the Diamond Da40, but I find the cruise speed and climb rate a bit underhelming. I Expected it to get at least 250 km/h in economy-cruise.
I cannot believe the Socata Trinidad TB20 or 21 have not made your list, especially considering the mission parameters, training, cross country. Among the most affordable from under a 100k upwards, perfect for training for complex and IFR licences, arguably the best IFR equipped platform of all that made your list, (glass panels do not count) as never seen one under 250k for sale, most spacious cabin of all and the only true 4 seat full fuel cross country performer next to the 235 but far better on fuel, quicker! and flies further around 200 miles further, it also comes with autopilot as standard which was a pay for option on the 235. It is so stable and forgiving a student pilot could learn on it from the get go.
Where do you find the Cherokee and piper in this price? I am looking around and everything is over $100k or they are in pretty rough condition. I am a student, looking to reduce cost for my private and instrument training. Any help will be greatly appreciated
Dear mojogrip, Would it be possible if you could make a Cessna 207 video? The cessna 207 is the plane in between the 206 and the 208, it looks awesome :D. Im huge fan by the way
@@eckyle what do you think is a decent price for one of those Mooneys? I've only flown 172s, but I'm over them because they are too expensive. Been talking to a youtuber Pilotfun101 and his M20C is nice. I know they ate not that common, but really interested in then now.
Would the Mooney M20C with it's manual landing gear be easier to maintain and less prone to failure than typical electric motor/hydraulic-actuated landing gear?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but an aircraft must be a retractable-gear (in addition to having a constant-speed prop) in order to qualify as a complex aircraft. Most C182s are fixed-gear.
What do you think the premium price difference would between an aircraft with steam and one with glass? How much more should I expect (on average) to pay for a glass panel?
As always Mike. Good video, good info and will likely save me time looking for a starter, family commuter. Is that MoJo Sling done yet? ~ your neighbor
Hello Mike! In my modest opinion, I would add the Piper Tomahawk: it is not a fast airplane, but it was specificaly developed by Piper from USAF request for a trainer. Some CFI´s say that you must be very accurate to fly it because it´s not very forgiving. I personally flew some hours in one, and compared to the Archer (an airplane from the Cherokee platform), you must be sharper to fly it. BTW, i like very much your channell and it was one of my first subsriptions to one. With nothing more to say, i´d like to send you a big hugg from northern patagonia, Argentina. Cheers.
hey man love your content!! hey would you be able to create a video of some of the least expensive options for aircrafts there are out there? I personally dream to build an aircraft I can take off from in my backyard if possible lol i would love to see some options I figured I would ask someone with a wealth of knowledge on aviation and different aircraft reviews and such.... keep up the awesome work and if u could make a video of barebones cheapest ways to safely get up in the air i would be eternally grateful to you!! Please consider, god speed, -p3t3r
it's amazing... I learned to fly on this aircraft. the Piper Warrior is a beautiful aircraft and you can easily learn to fly with it. here in Brazil we call her "Tupi"(Tu => too, pi => pee) ... congratulations on the video always with top content... i loved seeing one of my favorite aircraft on this list
Nah...its AFFORDABLE. ...maybe not for you, but its that way with everything. You live in your house...which you apparently afford. There are homeless that don't.
piper cherokee not newer cost used more than less 30K $ today. cheap shit plane, and all have less 30K if looking today used ready top fly good condiotion plane, same have cessna 172-182 no newer cost used more than 30K $ if seller want more have thief and scammer.

172 for me aslo CAP lol
172 and 182 for me with NC Wing's Tar River Composite Squadron.

Good list, Mike! Thanks for featuring my Tiger!
Great presentation, we enjoy your program very much. Our best to you and yours over the Holidays.. stay safe and keep up the great work..

Could we please have an updated list for 2022/2023 prices please!!!
@MojoGrip Have you flown a DA40NG yet?
I love the 182 I’m in cap (civil air patrol) and have flown it before.
Only thing is, I’m 6’2 about 220. So looking for something comfortable might be kinda tough. Don’t know what single engine starters have in terms of room for my figure.
Your info is extremely helpful!!
The diamond da40 is exactly what I’m looking for, thanks bro 👍
What's with all the videos today having a long blank screen at the end...
I got my license sun a DA20, and the diamond is such a great flying airplane! I love it!!
Was the piper Cherokee 235 on there twice?
the picture was, during the piper warrior's spotlight he accidentally showed the Cherokee image.
I love the looks of the Diamond Da40, but I find the cruise speed and climb rate a bit underhelming. I Expected it to get at least 250 km/h in economy-cruise.

You may have some errors in there. You show the 235 numbers for the Warrior, and the DA-40 is listed as 143MPH for speed, is that correct?
Gr8 Video Mike. Thanks again!!
Grumman Tiger woot woot! FYI, the prices you listed for that are at the bottom of the range (for today's current economy at least)
Hey Mojo, what about Mooney? The M20C in particular with manual landing gear. A video on that plane would be nice.
I was literally about to write the same message!! I'm thinking about buying/training in the Mooney M20C
@@eckyle what do you think is a decent price for one of those Mooneys? I've only flown 172s, but I'm over them because they are too expensive. Been talking to a youtuber Pilotfun101 and his M20C is nice. I know they ate not that common, but really interested in then now.
I've been trying to get my hands on a Mooney to feature on the channel. Still searching 🤞🏾
Would the Mooney M20C with it's manual landing gear be easier to maintain and less prone to failure than typical electric motor/hydraulic-actuated landing gear?
The controls (esecially the rudder are so easy to fully press in) and it is fast!
My HS science teacher had a Tiger. He took me up a couple times.
Bingo , right on the money review & comparison. Thanks!!
I’m currently lusting after a Navion B. Once I finish flight training definitely going to buy one. Hopefully I can find one finished in raw aluminum.
Thank you for the information. Good video

GeneralSirDouglasMcA agreed. The 182 in fixed gear is a High Performance, but not Complex aircraft.
Anyone else have about 2 mins of black screen at the end? Just curious if it was on my end or if it was the video... Thanks for another great video!
I love when you put videos like this Great job
by the way, I loved the video you made about the Cherokee 235 ... when I saw the video at 4:40, I remembered the day I launched this video.
Man, That DA 40 is sharp!!! I like that plane. I seen that on other You-tube flying plane channel. This young lady was getting her P.P.L. in one.
That was a very good vídeo mate very clear speaking thanks
I love em all! 😍Thanks Mike!
For commercial training and to be a complex plane the 182 needs to be an RG.
Thanks for showing a Civil Air Patrol Cessna 182
What do you think the premium price difference would between an aircraft with steam and one with glass? How much more should I expect (on average) to pay for a glass panel?
$30k-$40k extra for glass
You have the Cherokee stats up when talking about the Warrior, BTW. Nice video, though.
Nice video Mike!
what the best place to find an aircraft for sell? the one I see on Trade A Plane are ay over price.
Aeroavion.com
Good info....pics..... thanks. More please.
As always Mike. Good video, good info and will likely save me time looking for a starter, family commuter. Is that MoJo Sling done yet? ~ your neighbor
if some used plane have g1000 glasspanel i take off and sell all panel and buy old better steam gauge panel back to plane, i hate glasspanel.
Great video thanks
adoro seus videos!
parabens! Mike!

cost of operating, maintenance, repairs need to be considered; not just the initial price
“Affordable” 😂
HA HA HA
Good video but at the end there is about 2 min of blank screen before the video ends
my guess is to make the video 10 minutes long so he can place ads in the middle. 10 in the minimum needed to do that.
How about smallest/cheapest airplanes that can fly over 2000 miles
used cessna 182 normal cost 4000-30 000$ not newer more.
That D40 was out of El Monte Airport I see..
Good Job !

0:18 a plane for the branch of the military for kids
perfect
Civil air patrol definately takes care of their planes.
Very debatable on affordable. And that’s just the purchase price. Let alone maintenance and fuel for those bigger engines
Nah...its AFFORDABLE.
...maybe not for you, but its that way with everything.

There are homeless that don't.
i hate new glasspanel g1000 i not like use, ols gauge panel have lot lot better use comfortable better.
Insurance is one of the killers

@@donjohnston3776 agreed Dan. Buying the plane is one of many expenses. 👍
When it comes to purchase versus ownership costs, my folks used to say... “It’s not the horse, it’s the hay!”
do a collaboration with stevo1kinevo 🙏🏾🤙🏾 !!!!!
"Steam gauges" is one of the most ridiculous terms used in aviation
Mike.. A 182 is not a complex aircraft.
The 182 RG is. It is still a high performance and has a constance speed propeller.
Well yeah, but he wasn't talking about the RG at all
@@joshcox8785 he did say it comes in multiple configurations. I believe he was using that one aircraft as an example for the 182.
"If you have to ask....", as they say.
ANYONE THAT DOES NOT ASK THE PRICE IS A FOOL

Those who vote with their wallests have overwhelmingly voted for Cessna 150s, 152s, and 172s. By a long way!
