      It feels like being trapped by a monster that has rules that make no sense but punish us for breathing eating or wanting to exist. A platform filled with hate and negativity where only numbers matter. But I cant leave because If I want to survive I need to post. Anything, doesnt matter if I care about it or not. If the images are moving its good. I need to do things over and over and over again with alot of quantity and no time for quality. That is how I feel about instagram deep down. Otherwise its a okay platform. I try to post more. I am afraid of reels tho. Humans can be really evil and scary on reels.

  • @NalaShore
    @NalaShore ปีที่แล้ว +212

    For the first time, one of my reels reached 1 million views… it’s a quick ASMR unboxing of watercolors. The reels I spend hourS making where I am painting don’t get more than a few hundreds of views… A clear example of how it’s no longer about the quality of the content 😅

    • @untitledmisou
      @untitledmisou 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      @@Phianett essentially its more about just strictly entertainment and relatability. great for general entertainment of an "average" user who just shares memes. tragic for ppl who create content, especially types that don't fit in that humor/entertainment field

    • @karenl8837
      @karenl8837 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      But do those big numbers really matter if they’re randoms? Or is it the quality of the people who engage with your art content that’s more important? Quality over quantity😊

    • @untitledmisou
      @untitledmisou 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@karenl8837 more exposure is likely to being you good followers. Getting 1 million views positively affects your account and increases the algorithms likelihood to promote your content to people who want to see you, so it's a win regardless.

    I’m rarely active on Instagram, but the few times I do post, I’m always surprised by who interacts with it. Most of them have followed me for years, and it sort of feels nice knowing a few stick around regardless of how often I share work. Definitely helps me go at my own healthy pace.

    This is such an important thing to remember, especially as a starting artist. Thanks so much for your perspective on this! It's so nice to hear it from others, even though deep down I know the algorithm isn't a measure of worth. I find using Instagram as more of a public scrapbook of sorts helps; a way to connect and commemorate my journey. What happens with analytics is irrelevant 😊 thanks, Mimi!!

    I got art block and stopped posting to Instagram for over a year, I find it very stressful. I wish there was a way to post the things I love without the stress of figuring out an algorithm. I probably won't be the illustrator I thought I'd be because of it :(

      I've heard a lot of people resort to pinterest so maybe you could try that! I heard it about 3 times this week so I finally decided to try it for myself today lol. One thing I was hesitant abt was art theft but yeah I'd recommend watching more in depth videos from other people with more long term experience.
      ALSO YOU WILL BECOME THE ILLUSTRATOR YOU WANT TO BE!! Don't place your value on numbers and followers I'm sure ur work is amazing so please don't give up!

    Being an artist and being a content-creator are different things. I only came to understand this now. An artist draws from their heart, but a content creator does not necessarily always do that. Sure, some content creators are lucky to have their true art match the algorithm. But some have to modify their style in order to please people and get more likes. That's why you should think what you want to do with your art: is it a job for you, or just a way of expressing yourself? If you want to make art for your soul, you probably better stop caring about likes and comparing yourself to other artists. But if it's a job to you, you might consider modifying your art to get more engagement.

    The clip of the art pieces being just coloured rectangles with likes and comment numbers illustrated that it's just about engagement so well!
    Really great video about separating the art from the metrics, which can be so difficult but shows so well that the social media numbers game is just a game you feed. The numbers don't say anything about one's art journey, work's worth or the various meaningful interactions people get just from looking at it.

I only get big engagement when I make fanart (which isn't often cause I like character design so I don't want to attract an audience who only wants fanart yk) while other pages grow really quick or have high engagement despite very small following (with comments like "omg you're so underrated!") when they draw realism or anime

    These are great points. This is why I try to at least like most if not all the posts I see on my Insta feed.
    Also in many ways these apply to other platforms such as TH-cam as well. TH-cam doesn’t really care if you make good videos, as long as they gain engagement (and dislikes are counted as engagement) and, especially, views.

    Can I just say that it’s always nice to come to your channel because it feels like you’re one of very few who doesn’t use an iPad with procreate. I want to get into digital art and seeing you work reminds me that I don’t need a iPad in order to do so. It’s not that I dislike iPads it’s just that they are crazy expensive where I live and costs as much as a computer that can handle video editing, digital art etc. And I soon need one of those as well.
    If anyone have other artists to recommend that doesn’t use an iPad for their digital work, I would really appreciate the inspiration and motivation😊

      @@MimimooIllustration Yes, I have n9ticed that. Because the default feed color for insta is white and you add a white background, the art itself pops. And it is bold, imo being able to use pastles in a way they pop and appear vibrant is boldly using colors. Especially since some art pieces have many harmonious and/or contrasting colors.

      Making bold art doesn't always have to mean using darker and/or saturated colors to make edgy stuff. If you can use pastles/muted tones and make it pop, that is a bold way of using those colors. Its all about making the art itself stand out, and that is being achieved here imo.
