So true! I’m from Europe and English is my first language but I also speak German. When I visited the US, I was asked if I had trees in England and whenever my friend and I would speak German to each other, the people would start addressing us super slowly and treating us like babies. We wouldn’t have minded if we genuinely thought they were being helpful but we just got the vibe that they didn’t understand anything outside of the US and thought they were superior to us. (Side note this wasn’t everyone, most people were super nice but there were still a lot of Americans who know nothing about other cultures or countries at all).

When I visited the US, I was asked if I had trees in England and whenever my friend and I would speak German to each other, the people would start addressing us super slowly and treating us like babies. We wouldn’t have minded if we genuinely thought they were being helpful but we just got the vibe that they didn’t understand anything outside of the US and thought they were superior to us. (Side note this wasn’t everyone, most people were super nice but there were still a lot of Americans who know nothing about other cultures or countries at all).
