Like the cosmic bond between Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva is the blessed friendship between the maestros Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma and Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia. This raga composed by Hari-ji ('Shivaanjali', i.e tribute to 'Shiva') as a tribute to Shiv-ji is testament to this enduring affinity between Shiv-Hari, two of the greatest maestros of classical music to walk in the mortal world. Hari Om! Om Namah Shivay!
Words can't describe this music. The sound is so organic. After listening to such masterpieces one realizes compared to music after all language has it limitations..
I am crying so much and I don't know why? Never felt so sappy and helpless after listening to a musical Masterpiece. I am currently feeling closer to my maker and nothing else compares to this feeling. Nothing else.
Wonderful music! It takes me to a time and place in which I can meditate on the beauty of life. It reminds me of my travels to Nepal and the beauty of the people and mountains.
You repeat what you've been taught by man. Your soul knows you're in a false religion filled with idols & images that are man-made. Your statues have no power or concern. Your prayers are wasted on mounds of clay. God said he will not allow idol worshipers into heaven, so, repent, for God loves you with an everlasting love & doesn't want to lose one soul.
Loved Hariprasad Chaurasia ever since I asked to "buy a cassette of the classical Indian music you are playign" from a shopkeeper in the little Rajasthani pilgramge town of Pushka back in 1991. Do so wish I could get that very same 'album' or recording on CD but not sure what it is called. Very mellow and laid back (night time raags?), I used to drift off to sleep to its sweet sounds and the smel of hand-rolled sandlewood incense in my little room on the roof of the temple by the holy lake.
Oh! It's amazing. It's extraordinary gift from god. Like as hearing classical music I charmed. I lost my soul in the nature. Then I found real world. Thanks god, thanks Hariprasad chaurishia.
Shivanjali is a very serene melody with the touch of coolness of a moon lit night. Shivanjali is a combination of two raags- Malkaunsh and Jog Kaunsh. It will be more appropriate to call it a late night melody ( ratri ka aakhari prahar ) and i think it will be fitness of things if the the back drop is changed from a golden glow of a dawn on a mountain peak to a silver shine of a full moon on lake water. Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia ji has brought out the inner beauty of this raag in all its splendor and i therefore suggest this raag Shivanjali needs to be heard by all music lovers again and again.
BHANU JOSHI I read the detail in your comment... I would like to ask you if theres any source to read about Raags more.. like how many are there and how what they represent and can a person read and know them just for knowledge or need an instrument to practise.. is there any way i can learn or any book u can recommend.?...thanks.
Instead of dawn on a mountain peak, I see it as the last rays of the a late afternoon sun touching the mountain tops as it hides behind further away mountain peaks, ready to make its round, and come back in full force the next day.
@Iamalready Healed No, it is not bad. You can listen to it any time it will be calming & soothing even though it's night raga according to the time theory of music.
hariprasad chaurasia ---raag shivanjali ---relax ---listen ---enjoy ---a golden ---classical ---wonderful ----devotional ---song ---i like so much ---i enjoy ---thanks fpr posting ---taking care classical music lovers
yes, there is hate... pain... suffering... ego... violence... and a lot of bad things in the world, but there is also peace, love, wisdom, control, compassion, forgiveness and a lot of good things in this world, I feel how bansuri music kills al the bad things in me and in a certain way it also kills the bad things out there... Bansuri makes the good things come to life, if you feel bad, then listen this music because the sound of this flute tells "i know, it hurts but look, here is God".
Just awesome.. Great respect to Mr. Chaurasia for his this composition Artist like them connect world.. Indian govt. Must give him Bharat Ratna... True son maa Bharati
A peaceful, calming, relaxing music. But also somewhat melancholic... - (I have this same music as Metro-style app on Win8.1) - One feels transferred into the nocturnal silence, serenity and tranquility of the North Indian Himalayas. The high contrasty, saturated image is from the shapely Mount Shivling (which was cropped out from its natural sky-background) at the Gangotri Glacier, one of the main sources of Ganges, in Garhwal Himalaya.
No wonder that Indian music have influenced George Harrison, John Coltrane and many others, but on the other hand is the land of the World's biggest computer hacking community !
Hi! someone can tell me the aroha and aboroha of this raga please? I find nothing about this raga. Is it the same that shivranjani? Thank you for your answers
it is @ w_w_w + artistdirect + com , just search 'shivanjali' in the website ... I had to give website address in this way , because looks we can not mention any web address in comment ... :(
@Andrea Ferigo scale E as main flute scale. But scale A flute is also used to produce tone for E base scale. Such way instead of two he can produce three octave sounds with the help of two flute (E,A).

I came across 'Glory of Dusk' a few years ago and I love the sound of the bansuri and raags like this. Beautiful, peaceful, serene, spirit filled.
If we are good listeners and feel with heart then this bansuri becomes way to salvation!
