In addition to these epic tomes, I really like the way that Kevin Crawford games speak to the readers, especially the GMs in his amazing world building sections of his ___ without Number books.
Thanks for sharing this. It's exactly what a newer GM needs. I'd suggest getting a more stable camera though! ICRPG is one of my favorites. Love Runehammer stuff. I think nothing quite exemplifies the Runehammer way as well as Viking Death Squad.
Great advice. Completely agree about shorter is better than longer. I would encourage new GMs to do a 4-5 room dungeon and have the players start at the entrance of the dungeon (good advice from PDM.) they already know each other and are agreeing to explore. This lets everyone into the action and once players complete the objectives have them hit level 2. Everyone will be happy to complete the quest and thinking about how to level up!
Excellent advice throughout this video. Many useful acronyms and quick guidance. If a fresh GM even takes away one of those acronyms (LOG, DEW, et al), they'll surely benefit!
Great video, thanks a lot! Appreciate the organized way to present the ideas, as always. As a brand new GM to be myselft (under development), that's always very helpful. Index Card has been on my list of acquisitions for a couple of months, but with a recent wave of really cool kickstarters, I postponed it a little. I was severely bitten by the RPG bug, and discovering kickstater has been both a bless and a curse 😅. I'm really loving this all, and look forward to playing with my son. He's just 10 months now, but that will give me some time to improve and play "slay the dragon", just obtained through kickstarter, to start, when he's 5(?) 😂.
Thanks! I appreciate that. It is really easy to get caught up in the Kickstarter game, I've done it for a while myself now. What's important is finding the games you are excited to run and your players are excited to play. Game on.
awesome vid my friend. Even though i had some experience from the late 80s and early nineties, i was still overwhelmed when i came back tot he hobby in 2020. Dumbed it down with my own very simple version so i could run a game without my brain exploding :)... keep em rollin
The first game I read and ran as a GM was ICRPG 2E and all the great advice I read there remains with me! The Master Edition refines on this! My favorite GM advice is Electric Bastionland because Chris McDowall managed to capture the gist of it in a lot less words than Hankerin but ICRPG did make me a better GM!
One-shots can and often do grow into something bigger, but it's hard and sad to cut and scale down grand campaign new enthusiast GM overcommitted to make the most beautiful thing in the world. Though consistent groups can have it all by opening table weekly, monthly, bi-monthly. Experiencing dozens of worlds of possibilities and meeting more people sounds more enticing to me than watching kids growing up and elders grow old without ever putting down a single book chosen by version of them that doesn't exist anymore and trying new thing in a hobby that can do anything. -izois
feels good seeing all that work endure :)
It's great evergreen advice. Thanks for writing it down!
Crown and Skull is cool, but ICRPG will always be my go to.
you are the man!!!!!
This guy knows what's up! I love Elder Goblin Games' material!
👑 Just trying to be a small tributary to my people. 💚
ICRPG definitely changed everything for me. Great overview dude!
Same. It really rewired my brain for prep.

I have Worlds Without Number and I want to do a whole video on that book. It's really good.
@ I use it to help world build mostly, but it’s one of my desert island books surely.

Good Sir - You’re videos and messages are getting better and better. Truly love listening to you. ❤
Thank you! 🙏

Absolutely. The 5 Room Dungeon is an excellent starting model as well.

Thanks! I hope more GMs read this book, it's full of so much great knowledge!

Life is busy and it's easy to get overwhelmed. That's what I love so much about the advice here, it's all about stripping away what you don't need!
@@ElderGoblinGames yepper, i used ICRPG as some inspiration for my own game guide.
Great stuff. Love it. Emphasizing danger/stakes is very important. I don't do treats often enough!
Treats are really fun! I like to think of them like Zelda bosses / fights.
Thank you very much for talking about this book. Very inspiring!
Glad it was helpful!
Fantastic video EG! Lot of really good advice
Thanks! Hope it helps.
Very nice.
Your videos have gotten seriously good recently!
Thank you. It's good to know I'm still making progress and honing my craft.
Ah, such good GM thinky-think! Looking forward to bringing the thunder to my game this weekend!
Go forth and bring the thunder!
Reshi sighting at 11:06 😳😂🐈⬛ Also nice oversized die, pretty cool!!
cats are just furry goblins
@ So true. Must be why we both get along so well with cats 😂
Commenting before I watch the video. I love that shirt man. 🤘

I need to pick that one up! It's definitely on my list.
Steve. My NPCs are named, “Steve.”
There are always a lot of Dougs in my games.
Great run down, if you need to pickup the energy try standing up while DMing, move your arns and
A goodly tip!
what? 😂
@@danacoleman4007 I think they're just saying sometimes it's good to just get up and move around to stimulate your energy levels
I find myself standing up unconsciously when things get tense. Definitely projects more energy into the table.
Good Advice!
Thanks Dire Den!
I have never ran an evil monk npc. I must make amends.
Do it! 😈
