Yes, it is pretty crazy. I have an HOA and I have my own property over 2 acres, but it's also mixed in with mobile homes and per the HOA. If I have a window unit, it has to be covered with some kind of lattice around it, or I can't have it up.

@jamesdax We have plenty of evidence of the good ol’ saying “give them an inch.”
Just look at the world we live in today.
Some years ago, some actor said something that someone didn’t like.
Instead of the actor ignoring the whining twerp, he or she apologized for hurting their feelings.
Since then, actors, etc., have had to apologize and grovel to all of the whiners or “get cancelled” (I think cancelled would be best - don’t apologize for how you feel/believe.)
What part of what I said wasn’t true!?

Best part was when the AC would croak, you'd go down to Home Depot, pick up another one, slide it in where the old one was and you're back in business for $500 instead of $5,000 for central air. Then you can use cardboard from inside to block more hot air from coming in. And help seal up any cracks in window.

Now understand this. I am NOT an expert, in any sense on this matter so take what I say as mere observation. My mother lives in a Trailer park that, recently, changed hands (ownership) and began to implement changes to their leasing policies. To clarify one little detail? My mom OWNS her trailer. The new owners, of the park, began taking over other trailers as "tenants" either moved out or agreed to the new policies. That happened as people completely moved out. (Many of the trailers there were some form of land contract or lease to own if they were not purchased) As the owners took back plots they began replacing or updating the trailers to then lease them out. The leases changed for these units and plots. One of the item in the lease did concern "Window Units" or installation of HVACs. If you were just renting the trailer you were NOT permitted to use window units without notification. The reasoning, as I gathered, was that these units are heavy and, often, improperly installed. Basically just shoved into the window without the use of any kind of hardware or support, The claim was? Doing that could place undue stress on the walls and frame of the trailer damaging it. The owners offered installation of the window units or HVACs. This incurred a fee, however, and your lease would see a rate change, namely increase in rent, to the rental units. Those who owned their trailers were free to do what they wanted without any rent increase. Perhaps this has become a common trend? One has to understand that if you rent the trailer you cannot do whatever you want to it just because you pay money. I feel for this lady. I really do, but I think the owners, of that park, are more worried about these window units damaging their property (walls and frames of these trailers) than they are about appearances. And be Honest? You know you do see an awful lot of window A/Cs just shoved into the windows in houses. Just resting on window frames with no hardware or support. I do believe the trailer park owners do have that in mind.

I'm glad everyone in the comments know how much this lady has! I'm sure she can pull $8-10k out of her pockets and pay for a central AC. I had 2 window AC in my trailer both of them struggled to keep up. The damn indoor ones you put the tube out the window sucks! I owned a few of those. I had a wall unit that only stuck out of the wall a bit never was able to keep up and froze up all the damn time.

I can EASILY pay for a $10,000 AC unit. But that's because I make good decisions.
Your nose ring indicates poor judgement, a lack of self-control, and lack of higher level thinking.

Get a doctor's note. My mom gets a doctor's note for everything. The apartments wanted her to take out the window units so, she got a doctor's note. The apartments wouldn't allow dogs over 12lbs so, my mom got a doctor's note. The apartments wanted her to pay an animal deposit, so, my mom got a doctor's note. The police said my sister couldn't have the deepest tent on her 3 cars, so, my mom got a doctor's note..

No, I don't live with my mom.
My younger brother does. He had a 70lb black lab pit mix. Then when she passed away, he got another dog. My mom has a lap dog. The apartments wanted a pet deposit far his dog, so, she got a doctor's note making it a service animal.
I bought her 2 stand up ac units to help the apartments look better. My little brother pawned them. The 3 window units, and the 2 stand up. I went to visit her last summer, and it was 110 degrees in her top floor apartment. They keep the doors closed, And fans blowing.😔
