- In this video, a flutist reacts to the classic song "Along Comes Mary" by The Association. Not only does it feature a recorder, but a recorder that shreds - who knew?! I hope you enjoy this reaction to this great live performance by the band The Association from 1967.

I was fortunate enough to meet Larry Ramos in the early 70's. He was good friends with my Uncle and Aunt. Even though I had the opportunity to visit him whenever he had spent time with my Uncle and Aunt, I hadn't been to any the Association's concert until 2 years before he passed. My late beautiful wife and had the opportunity to see them in concert which was the last concert she and I had gone prior to her passing from cancer. After the concert I had asked one of their crew members if we would be able to visit Larry but I was told that we would not be able to. As we were leaving the venue I heard my name being called out and to my surprise even after all these years had passed, Larry remembered me and we ended up spending about an hour reminiscing. He was so talented. I like to think that my wife and Larry are singing together in heaven!
Ah yes, Mary! Indeed cool. "When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch"
I had never heard them live, only the studio/radio version. This sounds different, but great also! Thank you for doing this live version
Yo're very welcome, thanks for watching and commenting! Wishing you a most Flutifull day! 😄🙏
If you compare the studio version of the song to this live clip, you'll realize that Terry Kirkman actually made a goof during the live solo, but that just gave him an excuse to improvise and cover his fluff. Excellent way to recover from a mistake.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching and commenting and wishing you a most Flutifull day! 😄🙏
Thank you Claire and I hope you have a flutifull week
Never My Love a beautiful song was their biggest hit. Cherish is another very nice song. They had Goodbye Columbus also. A good short lived group from the late 60s..I dug their sound. Best of success on yr channel
Thanks so much for watching, and for your comment, I'll definitely check out those other tracks. Wishing you a most Flutifull day! 😄🙏
My two favorites from them. 2 beautiful songs.
📻🙂
One of many classic tunes from this group.
It would seem so Bill, I'll definitely be checking out more by them. Wishing you a most Flutifull day (and I'm looking forward to tonight! 😉) 😄🙏
You can see a better version of that introduction when they were on the Smothers Brothers TV show:

I think they may have just lip synced to the recording there but the intro was live, and being rehearsed for TV, the cameras show it better.
RIP Terry Kirkman, recorder/vocals w The Association. (and Brian Cole, bass/vocals, 1972 and Larry Ramos, guitar/vocals))
I enjoyed your video reaction.
The Association were extremely talented, and were known for their harmonizing .
As mentioned,
“Never My Love”, and
“Cherish “, [ my favorites], are 2 beautiful songs. “Cherish “ hit #1.
And “Windy” was another huge hit for them. [ “Never My Love “ went to #2].
📻🙂
A flutiful performance by an equally flutiful band! 👍
hehe absolutely! Wishing you a most Flutifull day Andy 😄🙏
@@ClaireHoldich Thank you - and greetings to the flutiful Yorkshire! (haven't been there for ages) 😉
😊 Kiitos Claire 👏🎶👍
Another group you’ll have to check out,
“MARSHALL TUCKER BAND “.
“Heard It In A Love Song”. and, Can’t You See”. Some good Flute in them. Pretty rare for a “a southern-rock band.
Also: the band “FOCUS “. Thijs Van Leer is the flautist/ keyboardist.
📻🙂
Thanks, I have a reaction to an Ayreon track that Thijs Van Leer plays on if you'd like to check it out th-cam.com/video/gxEIIW3TpPU/w-d-xo.html Wishing you a most Flutifull day! 😄🙏
Every time I think that I'm
The only one who's lonely someone calls on me
And every now and then I spend
My time at rhyme and verse and curse those faults in me
And then along comes Mary
Mary, Mary
Then along comes Mary
Mary, Mary
And does she wanna give me kicks
And be my steady chick and give me pick of memories?
Or maybe rather gather tales from all the
Fails and tribulations no one ever sees?
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
Sweet as the punch
When vague desire is the fire in the eyes of chicks
Whose sickness is the games they play
And when the masquerade is played and neighbor folks
Make jokes as who is most to blame today
And then along comes Mary
Mary, Mary
Then along comes Mary
Mary, Mary
And does she wanna set them free
And let them see reality from where she got her name?
And will they struggle much when told that such
A tender touch of hers will make them not the same?
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
Sweet as the punch
And when the morning of the warning's passed
The gassed and flaccid kids are flung across the stars
The psychodramas and the traumas gone
The songs are left unsung and hung upon the scars
And then along comes Mary
Mary, Mary
Then along comes Mary
Mary, Mary
And does she wanna see the stains the dead remains
Of all the pains she left the night before?
Or will their wakin' eyes reflect the lies
And make them realize their urgent cry for sight no more?
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
Sweet as the punch
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch

Well, I never liked the opening. A bit corny for me. BUT, I love the song and it is a complex tune to do live, I agree the solo was worth waiting for and I loved your reaction.
Of course, the all time flute shredder is Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. His solos almost defy belief when you hear him.
Thanks, and yes I'm a big Ian Anderson fan - you'll find a Jethro Tull reaction and some covers here on the channel. Wishing you a most Flutifull day! 😄🙏
Gentle Giant. All your recorder shredding needs in one stop. Until you eventually make it to Gryphon.
