Thanks, again, Amoeba, for editing this episode so as not to hear the interviewer's voice till the end. The video just flows so much better. And some good finds from the band!
I’ve been listening to their new album constantly. I’m so happy to find out they dig a lot of Brazilian music, as I am Brazilian! The New Pornographers for the win!
Always loved Carl’s dry sense of humour..since shopping at Scratch records with him behind the counter to those early gigs with Superconductor and Zumpano ❤
Thank you for this. Some of my hometown heroes. Mass Romantic came out around the time I left Vancouver… no better ‘send off’ than that. Saw them years later at Union Transfer in Philly
Nice to see Melenas make an appearance here - was not expecting that. They are great. Also cool to see Ellington at Newport, that was later considered his big comeback. For the music of Brazil, people should check out the musical movement from Minas (called corner club) led by Nascimento, Borges, and Guedes. It is otherworldly
It was Paul Gonsalves taking chorus after chorus on Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue that caused the "riot" at Newport in 1956. It was evidence that the Ellington band was still relevant after all those years.
Pointed Sticks: "Marching Song" is one of the best Power Pop songs of all time. Make sure it's from the "Perfect Youth" album. The one he held up is not their best album.
Like the Brazilian influences on my favourite band. The music down there is a whole other world. Try some Milton Nascimento, Seu Jorge, and Mamonas Assassinas.
DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE PRICE OF A RECORD. SOME OF THE BEST STUFF FOUND IS UNDER PRICED PEOPLE.... DON'T BE FOOLED. USE YOUR DIGGING SENSE ON SOME OF THIS STUFF. JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE THOUGHT IT WASN'T DOPE ENOUGH FOR A HIGH PRICE, MEANS NOTHING.
Cluster and Eno is an underrated record! Great choice, I think of it as among the best Eno records and doesn't seem to get much love. Great call on the song "Baby," I love the Os Mutantes version, I should check this one out too.
Yeah looking at them looking like they will be collecting social security sooner than not makes me feel old since I been listening to them since 2002... Man time flies
Man, that Zumpano record was awesome! I just remembered it tonight after seeing The 5th Dimension did a song called "Rosecrans Blvd." I somehow held it in my memory that Zumpano did a song called that, and it was the same song! Now, I'm gonna be revisiting the whole "Look What the Rookie Did" album...a classic!
@@AutomaticForTheCollector the songs are so firkin catchy! I dig you, Party Rages On, She's a full blooded Sicilian, Jeez-Louise. regularly get stuck in my head randomly.
Oh ha. Cuz they're old. And you're young, I take it? And young people are in a special category of people who never get old or something? Good for you!
I mean shit I was listening to them back in the early 2000s and most of them were closing in on middle age back then, it's wild to think about for myself as I hit middle age myself
Obviously without giving them a try and a decent hearing, LL, you will never know. The name is not intended to be taken literally - see Jonathan's comment above.
Thanks for the video I'm always learning about new bands and cool records just for fun check out Halsey Badlands album It's a masterpiece and the videos are awesome too records of King have a great day it keeps me inspired😄
What's In My Bag has got to be one of the best things to ever be put on TH-cam. Love The New Pornographers!

I’ve been listening to their new album constantly. I’m so happy to find out they dig a lot of Brazilian music, as I am Brazilian! The New Pornographers for the win!
It's a wonderful album. Just like the band's previous eight albums! 😎
Carl is the reason I got into Brazilian music 15 years ago. He’s always been a huge proponent of tropicalia.
I love that they left the bickering in the video, lol. Like those two probably irritate the other dude all the time
Always loved Carl’s dry sense of humour..since shopping at Scratch records with him behind the counter to those early gigs with Superconductor and Zumpano ❤
I ❤ this band. Watching from London UK.
Thank you for this. Some of my hometown heroes. Mass Romantic came out around the time I left Vancouver… no better ‘send off’ than that. Saw them years later at Union Transfer in Philly
Elite band. AC is a good a songwriter as anyone I’ve ever heard. Kathryn is such a genuinely lovely person.
Hey, A.C., thank you so, so much for turning me onto Liam Kazar! All the best!

Club de Esquina
DUDE. I LOVE these guys. I'm so glad to hear their suggestions. Thank you thank you
Easily one of my favourite episodes, but they are one of my favourite bands so I might just be biased!
6:34 - can't you just hear "If u want my body and u think I'm sexy, come on baby let me know" - - Rod's tune was 2 years later!
Mars Audiac Quintet is low-key one of the very best albums ever made. Peak Stereolab in my opinion.
fantastic album even though the last track is the only one that's a bit disappointing
I'd never encountered Liam Kazar before, but just pre-ordered the LP. This is amazing; thanks folks!
Yo, I scored that Grace Slick album at a thrift store years ago, great one!
It was Paul Gonsalves taking chorus after chorus on Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue that caused the "riot" at Newport in 1956. It was evidence that the Ellington band was still relevant after all those years.
Class band. Class choices.
Nice Stereolab ! The Groop 😎
NO WAY, I was thinking this morning how NP was never on WIMB, and lo and behold...so happy now.
Their Reggae and Brazilian game is strong! Love the Duke as well.
If a record is low priced, it doesn't mean it's not good. It's because it's something that alot people don't know about. So it's harder to sell.
To be fair I think Carl was just being funny
These people are hilarious. I love this awkward interaction 4:20
Very nice Brazilian stuff chosen. Stereolab is so good. Would love to sit and have coffee with those three people.
Wow, what fantastic taste.
I never thought I'd see Carl Newman with a Melenas record ini his hands. They're amazing
Oh, and N=/=Ñ
Couldn't find a better Dub LP than the. King Tubby Meets........ Expodoocious Yeah!!!!!!
That Cate Le Bon record is so good
John Collins is a very interesting music purveyor and musician
Yeah he’s extremely skilled at what he does, I wish he’d start producing rap albums. Perhaps Flocka’s comeback record.
You can tell Liam that beck already done all that
such a great band
I've never heard of these people before, but I enjoyed this interview.
Great band. Interesting choices.
this is nice, although I was curious if Neko Case was going to show up as well.
I LOVE VINYL.
Santa Claus enjoys great music during his off-season 😁 Great selection in general by each one!
Pointed Sticks: "Marching Song" is one of the best Power Pop songs of all time. Make sure it's from the "Perfect Youth" album. The one he held up is not their best album.
There are practically a million bands in existence.
I'm forever on a mission.
love the spiritualized purchase
These are great various picks too can see how all these have influenced their music 🎶
Really like John's hoodie. Anyone know where it's from?
Yeah, Jorge Ben Tropical is a great classic, and he pronounced quite name his name.
King Tubby & Augustus Pablo is an all-time great. Seek-out more Augustus Pablo, you cannot go wrong: East of the River Nile, Valley of Josaphat... Ire
Do the artist have to pay for the merchandise that they've picked? If so is there a price limit?
Great picks!
I’m not sure why but the mic is throwing me off a little.
some nice digs frfr
Like the Brazilian influences on my favourite band. The music down there is a whole other world. Try some Milton Nascimento, Seu Jorge, and Mamonas Assassinas.
John Collins is really cool
Great stuff..
As made famous by Hunter’s “That one night”. At least he’s an artist.
The Pointed Sticks!!

Damn that woman has a kick-ass skincare regimen.
Cluster and Eno is an underrated record! Great choice, I think of it as among the best Eno records and doesn't seem to get much love. Great call on the song "Baby," I love the Os Mutantes version, I should check this one out too.
Same with the Harmonia & Eno LP
Dan Bejar should be next!
So we are gtting bit olderer. All good.
Yeah looking at them looking like they will be collecting social security sooner than not makes me feel old since I been listening to them since 2002... Man time flies
Dig the Meow Wolf cap AC is sporting there
probably one of my top favourite bands. Well I liked Zumpano way way better. I think I still listen to Look What The Rookie Did once or twice a month.
Man, that Zumpano record was awesome! I just remembered it tonight after seeing The 5th Dimension did a song called "Rosecrans Blvd." I somehow held it in my memory that Zumpano did a song called that, and it was the same song! I’m not at all surprised that Katherine likes Kate Bush.
I like that Grace Slick album I met her way back in the day I got her autograph and a kiss she's a good kisser🙃
King tubby 🤟🤟🤟
Hooray, Gen Xers talking!
Yeah, as if they don’t talk enough
Okay xoomer
I didn't realize Dan Bejar is that old.
Thank goodness Bejar didn't shoot them in a driveby on their way out.
Your comment reminded me of something: Bejar was never in a WIMB as well. Time to fix that Amoeba!
@@Adrianovaz2007 it'd be cool if beige didn;t choose eno et al. but tina turner and other random pop divas
@@matureyoungman Dan would pick some obscure singer songwriters and very popular yacht rock/sophisti-pop from the late 80s I bet
Laser Guided Melodies is many times better than Let It Come Down.
ada indonesia coy
Seems to be some real tension between a couple of these people.
why they have this name?
does anybody knows?
It's based on a quote from the televangelist Jimmy Swaggart who said, "Rock and roll is the new pornography."
It's also catchy.
I would dearly love to hear the New Pornographers cover Real Thing by the Pointed Sticks. Why has this not happened yet?
Sort of. Stoked. Really beautiful. King tubby (catnip for hipsters). NPR. Soft spoken.
>.< i wanna hear Kathryn speak! c'mon A.C.
I like the old pornographers better new stuff is too extreme
I feel like females in rock groups always have the best picks in these videos
feeeeemales
Third, nice
She hates him
More accurate band name: The Old Beachcombers
Oh ha. Cuz they're old. And you're young, I take it? And young people are in a special category of people who never get old or something? Good for you!
@@JeffD.Anope. Old dude here. Saw these guys 20 years ago. Just enjoying the one guy’s Bruno Gerussi vibe.
I never understood why anyone likes Spiritualized
You haven't listened to them on the right drugs.
In at 35 seconds after publish. Got 2:41 into the video before realizing my opportunity to 1st comment was lost. This a a sad day indeed. Mourn this.
I'm sorry for your loss
😅 "Japanese gamelan" music ?? Bro… Indonesia and Japan are as far as Swiss yodeling and Italian Bel Canto can be…

That’s wonderful, you’re given such a great opportunity to discover new things!
First, nice.
We all got better things to do..
Damn they are senior citizens
Serously
The Well-travelled Pornographers, these days... 💚
I mean shit I was listening to them back in the early 2000s and most of them were closing in on middle age back then, it's wild to think about for myself as I hit middle age myself
They should rename their band The Whitest People You Know
Would you rather they pretend to be something they’re not?
I love white rock.
Masks?
Theyre so Old... surprised theyre still around
Well based on these picks I can see why this band doesn't rock any more. Shame, but at least we have several great (early) albums.
Still wearing the masks. Indie rockers are like NPR personified
Well, this explains why I dislike this band so much.
Why?
Really not a fan of their band name and more than likely will not like their music either.
Obviously without giving them a try and a decent hearing, LL, you will never know. The name is not intended to be taken literally - see Jonathan's comment above.
Haven’t heard about this band until now The guy on right seems slightly unpleasant
trying to out-nerd each other
