Overall I enjoyed the 5th Quarter. About halfway I was getting bored … of course the vibe is different live. - SU was more solid in endurance (of course they have more numbers) and execution. I wish they would have played more songs with a faster tempo. Ready or Not / Skin I’m In / Black N Blues (SU tradition staples) should not have been played in the 5th. It seemed like the band members didn’t even want to play. I could be reaching - TXSU had better song selections, switched up tempo and vibe more. It’s also pretty cool Simmons have a staff of multiple 🖊 arrangers. #StrengthinNumbers on the pen. With that being said, some endings were a little meh … we have to finish strong (now I wasn’t there live so I could be wrong). overall cohesiveness of sound was starting to waver on certain songs especially halfway through, but they were pushing through. As the season progress their endurance will improve. Now I’m neither a Juke or Ocean, but i appreciate the culture as an HBCU band alum. Great job both bands. Both are strong in arrangements and have pretty strong sections. TXSU tubas need to listen more. SU mellos need to come out more. Other than that looking forward to more footage in the future.
Props to both bands for putting on an entertaining 5th. Both could have sounded cleaner and had their flaws, but nonetheless they both proved something that night. I give the 0 to SU, Halftime to TXSU, and the 5th a clear tie.
I believe trumpet enunciation, intonation and power make the difference in determining the clear winner in battles like these...the other instruments can give power and volume easier, but a superior band has a uniformity in the upper brass. Use this criteria and your decision should be clearer on who has the advantage.
Here is my take. Having an hour long 5th was unnecessary and kinda backfired for both bands. I do think TXSU has overall better arrangements, however they were not executed well. I can't give you the w based on your band directors writing ability when he is not playing the horns. You have to be able to execute the music if you want to play advanced pieces. Southern really needs to go back to mixing in some funky classics to break up all the rap and aggression. I'm also missing the technical pieces I love SU for. Overall I give this a tie because I expect more from SU and Txsu doesn't execute well. They need another year.
My point exactly. I don’t know why SU has been playing so many rap tunes these past two seasons. Give us the arrangements we all are accustomed to. You can play 2-3 rap tunes, but for the most part give us old school and the complicated pieces no other band can duplicate. SU is lucky it was TxSU and not a bigger and more polished band.
GREAT GREAT BATTLE I WAS THERE SU GOT THIS THAT SILK SONIC 🔥🔥 TSU SOUNDING GOOD BRIAN GOT THEM GOING N THE RIGHT DIRECTION SHOUT OUT ALL JUKES WINNING ALL AROUND💯
Su vs txsu = an all Juke battle which is better yhab any other battle that you can find!!!!! This battle will become bigger than the boom box classic!!!! #JUKE4LIFE Fall 85
I have to go back and look at more old clips of TxSU on the field and in the stands. People keep saying Simmons is giving them their own style or perfecting the Ocean Style and not copying Southern over them. Sometimes I see it, but other times I think he is trying to Talledega the Ocean

This was dope to watch and hear both bands did there thing but Txsu would definitely be a problem the only thing is that they need more band members lol imagine if they were they same size as southern and thats where we would hear the full potential not saying they don't have it now but more brass omg would be overkill but SU always bring that pain
Let’s be real here y’all saying txsu won bc they ain’t get bullied but sitting here saying the was cleaner and gave more is big cap!! And you wasn’t at the same game we was at bc the def was cracking and had lot of ppl sticking out almost every arrangement
It was extremely close for the majority of this battle. TxSU will be a problem next year. SU saved themselves once they played “Ready or Not”, and they started to pull away, but barely. TxSU became tired after that round.
Now this is an honest statement. I too saw that TXSU was running out of gas. They did well. They just got weary towards the end. Southern is just southern. Great battle from both.
@@j.tradeforexinc.2819 Yeah, I thought SU was going to bully TxSU, but they took them lightly. Mr. Taylor should’ve known Mr. Simmons was going to show off. Treat them the same way you treat JSU and Grambling.

I am proud of both bands.Brian Simmons and company are as good as we all thought he was.You see why so many people wanted/want him at Southern. He has brought the Ocean back in less than two years. Many of us praised Nathan Haymer and Simmons, but didn't mention Kedric Taylor's name enough. He and his crew have proven that they're worthy of carrying on and making their own history with the Human Jukebox. Many of us haven't/didn't give Mr.Taylor enough credit for the situation he took over and what he's doing on the Bluff.Good job to both and it speaks quite well of Southern.

@@beaulah_califa9867 it’s still early in the year once SU blew black & blues the 5th was over they blew all the songs they learned this year
@@cpalmer3218 never!
This was over when SU played ready or not.... TSU showed up.. but you can't out Southern Southern!
I could be reaching
- TXSU had better song selections, switched up tempo and vibe more.
Tubas need to listen more? To who 😂😂😂😂
@@jacktwnboss601 there was one or two songs they were not in sync … I put a disclaimer in my message in regards to me not being there in person

Good job Ocean 🌊 👏🏾 👍🏾
This was embarrassing 😂😭😭😭😂 SU stay bringing heat to whoever 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Props to both bands for putting on an entertaining 5th. Both could have sounded cleaner and had their flaws, but nonetheless they both proved something that night. I give the 0 to SU, Halftime to TXSU, and the 5th a clear tie.
I believe trumpet enunciation, intonation and power make the difference in determining the clear winner in battles like these...the other instruments can give power and volume easier, but a superior band has a uniformity in the upper brass. Use this criteria and your decision should be clearer on who has the advantage.
Both bands were banging!
I’m glad A Juke and a Doll helped TxSU out. They are getting a lot better. A couple of years they’ll be complete beasts at this rate.
Petty lol smh
Nah that's real. TSU fell from grace after Gip left. This was the rejuvenation TSU needed...it makes any matchup SU not seem so one sided
A Tie?! That’s an SU L buddy. Learn how to process those better my guy…
I agree! That’s Just Being Fair.

SU... it's just different
SU's Tubas sounding better and stronger this year!
Facts it’s shocking actually
They was in they bag on this one. I enjoyed this!!!!
I have to go back and look at more old clips of TxSU on the field and in the stands. People keep saying Simmons is giving them their own style or perfecting the Ocean Style and not copying Southern over them. Sometimes I see it, but other times I think he is trying to Talledega the Ocean
Enjoyed both Bands amazing jukes the dolls slayed 👏
Great job both bands but Su 💯 💙💛. Y’all let’s not talk down these students they did good

This was dope to watch and hear both bands did there thing but Txsu would definitely be a problem the only thing is that they need more band members lol imagine if they were they same size as southern and thats where we would hear the full potential not saying they don't have it now but more brass omg would be overkill but SU always bring that pain
😮Jeeeez… SU saxes are loud and in tune at the end of their third selection.😅
I'm reading some of you alls comments and I'm going to say this. A lot of yall are arranger fans, not band fans. If you couldn't;t sit here and enjoy this 5th for what it was then you really just here to talk cap and just say whatever. I personally don't think this game should have been this early in the season. It would have been a more polished 5th for both bands. I think this was a pretty even battle at times southern peaked and so did tsu. the winner of this battle is the band culture.
Zero Quarter- SU
Half Time - Texas S.
Fifth Quarter- Tie
Y’all ain’t listening to this battle and I can tell.

😆 LOL I know SU page and all but I know yall HEAR that Middle to End !
I was trying to listen, but I'm having audio issues. What was Southern's second song?
I am proud of both bands.Brian Simmons and company are as good as we all thought he was.You see why so many people wanted/want
him at Southern.
Tomorrow goes crazy 🔥💨
That put on a smile was vicious
This was the best battle of the year so far but I got to say Txsu edge out with this, their song selection hit different
This was a great battle period both bands win 💪🏾

How can you shelf a classic like Skin? Old school never fails, and you OBVIOUSLY don't have an appreciation for the generations of music before this CRAP being released nowadays...Cameo made CLUB BANGERS that have been sampled by producers that make music NOW! Go listen to SU playing Living My Best Life with I'm Curious blended in to understand how the past shaped the present.
It says a lot when su has to result to black an blues. That damn simmons got a staff and repertoire he building over there. I just put in headphones and melted in this one. Amazing musicians on both sides
I said the same damn thing.
Tsu is a tier 3 band. SU doesn't waste it's repertoire on tier 3 bands. This was the game of the year for Tsu, not SU
Black an blues is a classic and a great fifth song too
That's a crazy comment bc Black and blues is a classic SU song this dude up here acting like Southern ran out of Music 🤣🤣🤣🤣
