People living on coast in Wells see property damage from flooding and strong winds

Chief Mark Dupuis with the Wells Fire Department said the damage from the storm on Jan. 9 into 10 is some of the worst he has seen as of late.

My family owned a cottage at wells on the beach since 1940 . We sold it in 2017 after my mum passed away . There is a reason no one used to live at the beach ! This is it ! If you are going to live here , you must have another place . And anyone living that close to the coast needs to know they are living in a compromised area . If a hurricane ever makes a direct hit , even a 1 or 2 , most of the buildings on Wells beach will be completely gone . The army corps of engineers built the jetty and completely screwed up the beach . Millions of cubic yards of sand are now gone , the whole bay is bowled out , the ocean has less buffer to the beach than it used to .
