    Congratulations, my friend! Keep following the good path of Karate-Do. The Goju-Ryu style is spectacular, very solid, and with strong techniques. Keep it up! I also started recently. Great video and greetings from Chile

    Congrats! I earned my orange obi yesterday in Goju Ryu too. What a coincidence! Btw, Ryu is pronounced /riu/, not /raiu/.

    • @thesharphandpath
      @thesharphandpath  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you, I'm aware how it's supposed to be pronounced. I tend to say "ree you", very rarely say "Rai you". But if I do it's cuz of the Street Fighter character when I was a kid lol.
      Congratulations btw! And thanks for watching 🙏🙏

      Although I identify as Non-Binary, I still appreciate the sentiment 🙏 Happy to have the support of a high level Shotokan like yourself! Means a lot. It warms my heart to see different styles able to celebrate hard work within the Karate world. Domo Arigato 🫸🤛

      depends on how you train. if you spar realistically then definitely yeah

    • @thesharphandpath
      @thesharphandpath  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @-Highlander-42 Short answer is Yes. Karate (depending on the dojo and style) should teach you valuable self-defense skills you can use to protect yourself in a physical altercation.
      The caveat with this is you won't learn this right away, it will take years of training and practicing the art to be remotely efficient in it.
      The person who commented about the sparring is also correct. If you don't do proper full contact sparring on a regular basis, you're not going to get a feel for what a real fight is gonna be like. Even then, fights are more aggressive and faster than sparring. Usually happen when we are least prepared as well. So keep that in mind.
      I think Goju-Ryu Karate is a great Martial Art. Teaches technique, form, and discipline. It was one of the 3 original styles that were born in Okinawa, and was specifically meant for self-defense.

    Is Goju ryu similar to kokushi

    • @thesharphandpath
      @thesharphandpath  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Kyokushin is a branch off of Goju-Ryu from my understanding (minus head shots, and more body conditioning). So yes, I imagine there's quite a lot of Goju in Kyokushin :-) Thanks for asking! 🙏

      Goju-Ryu is one of the 3 original styles from Okinawa, known first as Nahate. Aka The Hand Of Naha.

      What a fantastically strange question! Lol. I assume you're not referring to my facial hair, but to the Snake Bites? They're piercings. Probably fairly dated style but I like em.

    Do you realize the headband goes over the eyebrow so the sweat doesn't drop and get into your eyes? Do you? Otherwise Congrats.

      @thesharphandpath  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Definitely doesn't "have to". Works just fine for me. What a silly thing to try and nitpick lol.

      @@thesharphandpath Turns out that little thing says a lot. And it allows us to make assumptions and judgments about things like tradition versus modernity, aesthetics versus practicality and those things are the essence of TMA. Of course, those assumptions may be wrong, but the way a martial artist presents himself is super mega ultra important. Lastly, I'm not judging you, I'm just giving you unsolicited advice, you can do whatever you want with it.

    • @thesharphandpath
      @thesharphandpath  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Geez lol And people tell ME I take myself too seriously. Thanks for taking the cake my friend. You're right, you don't know me, and are definitely jumping to conclusions.
      I take Martial Arts seriously. The way I wear my headband works for me, it keeps the sweat outta my eyes just fine. It also likes to slide up to the top of my head, I don't have time (or care) to micromanage it.
      I'm proud of where I've come from in the arts. I may not be as flexible as I'd like to be (due to age and injuries). But even that I feel I can slowly better myself at.
      So comment all the implied insults that you like. It ain't going to affect my journey or way I see myself. Judge not, and all that. Peace.
