I’m a senior in high school and before this year I never once even considered taking a gap year but as this school year ends I feel so mentally tired and I finally decided to take a year “off” and work and figure out who I am outside of a student. Since making that decision I feel like this huge cloud over my head has moved away! Also side note: I’m also from Maryland!!
Yes!! It’s seems like a scary choice at first but afterwards it just feels right! A year is not that long in the grand scheme of things. I want to take another one once the world opens up 😂 a do-over one could say
Same here! I know I want to go to college and what I want to do with my life but I just really need to save up money for the college I want to go to and I just want to figure out more about myself and what I really want to achieve.
I’m late but I feel the same way. I’m just burned out and done with school, even though I know what I want to major in and where I plan on going. I also think there’s a lot of value in doing it and it’s only a year. Are you still planning on taking the gap year?
@@devweiss6422 so I actually am in the middle of my gal year now and I can firmly say : best decision I ever made! Im so excited to start school in the fall and for the first time in a while Im actually looking forward to learning again. I truly think if I had just gone straight to college that I would already be tired and done with it honestly. If you are still deciding whether a gap year is right for you my best advice would be 3 things 1) you’re completely right it’s just 1 year out of the rest of your life and as long as you use the time for something good (working, traveling, volunteering etc) then it’s definitely not a waste. 2) people that take a year off usually perform measurably better when they go back so keep that in mind and 3) before you choose to take a year off make goals and stick to them and have someone in your life hold you accountable to going back to school when and if it’s right for you. If you decide to take a gap year I hope you have an amazing experience!!
I'm a senior in high school and i am honestly not excited for college like all of my other friends are, I also feel drained, but I have a lot of motivation to work and put myself out there and try new things rather going straight into college. This video really helped my understand my perspective and decision a little more so thank you :))
yesss i’m not alone 😩 i feel so drained and am just tired of school, but know i don’t wanna quit and just take a break which so many ppl around me don’t relate to so seeing ur comment makes me so happy 😭
Related wayyy too much to the emotionally draining and existencial crises parts haha. I found that I mostly just procastinated deadlines until there was no other option for me than to take a gap year oops. Currently kinda stuck with a job I don't love and nowhere to go (which I was really hoping to) but I'll figure it out! This video really put some things into perspective for me so thank you
Totally we have so much time to figure out our lives and what we want to do with it! Thanks so much for watching! 💗 I love to hear that people can relate
I've committed to taking a gap year this year, and I'm so excited but also a little nervous. I'm doing it for financial reasons, so I won't be doing much travelling and whatnot. I guess the freedom of not having big school deadlines is a little unnerving. I'm worried about getting lazy or not taking full advantage of my gap year.
Oof yeah this honestly exactly how I’ve felt 😂 I had no option to travel so I focused on saving money and personal projects. Some days were hard but now that my year is coming to an end the time I put in has really paid off. It’s not a super exciting decision but you are making but a reallyy smart one 🙌
Yeah I’m graduating high school in a couple days and I’m taking a gap year for financial reasons too. I’m having trouble finding a job because I live in such a small town but I know that when I do find one and save, save, save it will be all worth it in the long run. Trying to stay motivated but it can be a bit hard😔
reading the comments and finding that there r so many other students like me who hv the same mindset regarding gap years and why they wanna take it takes off so much stress cus now i know ppl can relate to me unlike everyone else i’ve met at school 😭 ur video helped so much!! rlly appreciate how u shared ur honest thoughts
over the past 5 days I think I've realized that I want to take a gap year for sure. I was always scared because I am old for my grade so when I graduate college I'd be really old. But honestly, who cares.
I just graduated high school and was also thinking about taking a gap year because of financial and mental health problems, and this video seriously helped me to finally make my decision. Thank you so much for this!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am definitely going to encourage my daughter to take a gap year. Here in the US we pressure kids to grow up so fast.
I feel like taking a gap year is so beneficial though to find yourself, heal physically, mentally, socially and emotionally, to focus on revision and overall, taking a gap year is amazing and so beneficial and travel/explore the world! Do the things you love! Go to places you love explore/do new things! Go/travel to New places! ❤️
Am I the only one who thinks she could make an insane Anna Kendrick impression? In a GOOD way I swear I'm not trying to insult her. She has a lot of energy and I love it.
I just watched your vid and honestly I'm ready for a gap year now. I know I want to spend the first few months volunteering and I am planning the rest but I just need to cleanse from school and teenage drama before doing any kind of studies. Plus, I don't even really know what I want outside of arts and I am going to spend my time saving up money and working to achieve my goal.
Honestly sounds like a great plan! This is eXacTLy how I felt out of high school and I found arts management as a major! I made a video about it if your curious could be something your interested in! Thanks for watching!! :)
Hi Cheryl! I thought I would reach out because I am in the same predicament right now. I'm also interested in the arts! I would love to hear what you're thinking as well :)
I relate so much to the burnout thing you mentioned. I’m currently a senior in high school and I’ve been doing remote learning for the entire school year, shit just aren’t working out for me. I used to always be on top of my shit and have my calendar full, turn in assignments on time and even early. This year I just don’t feel motivated at all. I don’t know if I would do well if I start college in the fall. I got into amazing and super competitive school so I’m just honestly scared that I won’t be able to keep up. My friends have been telling me that it’s just COVID everything will be fine by then. But I just don’t feel good about myself?
I’m sure so many people feel the exact same way!! If you do take some time for yourself away from school it might help! However with some schools moving to in person it might get better. A gap year has been so great for me it’s definitely something to consider 🙂
Thank you. I don't know about anyone else; I went homeless my gap year. Or 2. But I'm 21 and finally have the chance to go to college and I'm more motivated than I've ever been in my life since I now have a chance. I'm the wise old man of the class, and I love it
Thank you for this! I’m from the U.K. and am in my third year of university, and went straight into university from sixth form and am honestly so overwhelmed.. as a ‘gifted’ student I’ve felt so much pressure to keep going but I feel extremely burnt out at the moment, plus having everything online for the majority of my degree has made me lose my motivation.. considering that I’m in my third year of uni yet I haven’t been on campus once is surreal. I’ve been considering a gap year but the pressure to keep going kept me from doing so, but thanks to this video I will definitely consider it if things feel worse.
I'm in 3rd year of high school and I've never considered this up until now, but it's starting to seem like a really great idea tbh. I'm totally exhausted of school and I don't even know what I'd like to major in anymore. Also I'm from Europe (not UK tho) and it's probably even less normalized here and everyone expects me to go to college right after HS. This video was really helpful so thanks!
Hi, im also from europe and probably will take a gap year before going to university. School is very draining and i still need to figure out which major i will take. take your time you reset and figure your shit out❤️
@rainypetals hi, i did take half a year off. Honestly, its the best decision I made. I have enough time to work and finish some personal projects. If I didnt took that time I probably had a major burnout. If you feel drained from school and want to earn some money, i can only recommand it.
my Junior year i knew i wanted to do a gap year the burnout is NO JOKE i was soooo behind i was a junior missing Freshman and Sophomore credits i had to work day and night getting caught up when i got caught up by the middle of my junior year i started my senior classes on top of electives when i got to my senior year i only had like 4 credits to finish school which i got that done within a month. Right after i graduated early my dad died so being tired from High School and losing him i needed NEEDED a break so i worked during my gap year and working helped me figure out what i wanted to do with my career and now im getting ready for school super excited for it and the application process is 💆🏾♂️just crazy but according to my achievements im automatically going to get in *TAKE A GAP YEAR IF YOU FEEL IS NEEDED*
I actually got accepted to the colleges I wanted, but I really want to take a gap year, I'm scared If I take a gap year I will lose those opportunities. I just feel so lost 😭
First off that’s awesome!! Congratulations! 🥳I would look into your schools deferral policies first. However once you have that figured out I would say take a gap year!! School will be waiting for you next year ❤️ it doesn’t matter what age you start college, opportunities will come your way!! I get that feeling though it’s totally relatable.
I'm a senior in HS and I've been wanting to take a gap year just cause school. schools draining for me even tho I've been growing slowly these past few years i don't think i want to go keep going into something that is not really helping at this time and your video has really opend my eyes to the possibilities and the almost not so big of deal in the end yk and i really thank you for this ❤️ I'll take the risk. 😄
I didn’t treat highschool very seriously at all so once graduation came and went I felt super lost stepping into the “real world.” I have a very introverted personality but just by luck I met a few ppl who became some of my best friends and still are to this day who have extroverted personalities help me meet new people and I kinda hung out with the “popular” kids (cringe I know I know haha) They all went off to many universities, a lot through their grades (which I’m super proud of them and what they had accomplished) while I felt super lost with ambition or any idea what I was even passionate about. 6 months in my gap year, I decided to take my studies seriously, took multiple ACTs and made a decent enough score to have a full ride to a community college. That whole year I took my grades very seriously unlike highschool and made all As and a full ride to a smaller university in my area, now my friends are very proud of me and what I’ve accomplished since I’ve done a 180. School isn’t a race, does matter if youre 18 or 80 haha school will always be there and if school isn’t your thing or if you are wanting to find yourself a career (outside of college, apprentice, influencer etc) you’ll be happier in, just go for it if you’re family or income supports your dreams!!!
Girl I literally have a week of high school left and I was stressing so much throughout this school year. This video has helped me decide thank you so much
Thank you for this video! I can totally relate because I am currently attending a community college and I already previously took a semester off. But I still have no idea what I want to do so I'm deciding to take another semester off plus the summer to allow myself to figure what I truly want to do. I feel as though I am just going to school to do it and it truly has no purpose because I currently have no major. In saying that, I did get some prerequisites out of the way so that a plus but I think I truly need to figure out what I want to do! I don't want to get stuck in major because I chose to just stick with it. I have talked to many others who continue school because of that exact situation, they choose to stick with a major they eventually may not even like! I am going to save up money and attend next fall, hopefully things are more normal then! Hope all is well with you!
heavily relate to that first part. just graduated hs and thinking of going to community college and i also feel like im just going to school bc i have to and bc i need to have some sort of objective. bc without school i dont really have passions
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, Except IM GOiNG INTO THE FALL SEMESTER AND IDK EHAT TO DO 😭 I already picked a major because I thought I was sure but I'm NOT, and I already picked my classes for transfer too(which I picked last minute, which was my mistake, I just wasn't sure what to do), AND, I'm scared that if I go this semester- unsure, I will end up not having motivation and what not, and I wll faik my classes and I will fall behind because I took classes I'm not sure about or mentally prepared to do. bUT, if I DO take the gap year I'm afraid that I will fall behind a whole year, and I wont end up going bCk- also that I won't end up figuring it out later. Ugh I have literally no time either, classes start in like 5 days and if I want to drop my cc classes, I have to drop it before finaical aid hits or I have to pay it back- AND before the classes are on my reco d so I can be considered a first year student next year. I FONG KNKW EHAT TO DO IK SCATED😢
i just finished my first year of college in april after graduating high school in 2020 and before i start my 3 year course i feel like if i do go i won't be able to mentally do it. taking a break, working and saving up i feel would be the best thing for me, plus im super immature and not ready to move out for college lol this video really helped, thank you so much katie
YES! I’m finishing up my first semester in college and I had a very awful and somewhat traumatizing senior year. I’ve never had so many mental breakdowns…all school related! I should’ve taken a break when I graduated but I didn’t. I plan on finishing my first year and taking time off from school. I NEED it. I’m so tired and I’m also working. I just need a break. I was a great 4.0 student in high school and then senior year came and I’ve just been an awful student since.
You make a lot of great points for people to consider whether or not they want to take a gap year especially considering the high cost of college in the America. 2020 has definitely been an emotional one for many! Thanks for sharing. Subscribed!
Wow I loved this video!! I’m planning on reducing my course load (online school is a lot mentally), and that way I can take a semester off next year! I resonated with a lot of your points, and I laughed about the whole “living chaotically” thing because I have definitely thought about that before too hahah
I graduated from high school from the moment I got out, I figured taking my time to make money, reassess what I wanted, and to develop some skills I've been working on would help me out before I started college. So I told my parents, and time and time again they obstinately refused, coming to the conclusion time and time again that if I didn't go to college immediately I would never go to college. Honestly, This hurt me. I've never really lied to my parents when I made a claim about something I would do. I promised I'd work during the summer and I did it, I promised to learn art; I filled my sketchbook, I promised to try writing; I wrote a book. However, when it came to college they would not budge, even threatening to disown me when I showed them my Google Doc of plans I had for my gap year. I reluctantly agreed to go when they peer pressured me with my siblings and extended family. I took a summer course to the college I was going to attend, only realizing after the summer course we had no real way for my tuition. So I started going towards community college, but by that point a majority of the classes are filled, and I still felt anxious going, as I feel incredibly under-prepared. What's funny is that my parents called my gap year plan a joke because I didn't follow through on it while I was busy with my summer course. They also were mad at me for missing out on an opportunity to go to a pretty good college in exchange for community college because I didn't want to be over 24 grand in debt. In the end of it all, what hurt me most was that they lost all faith, or rather I feel like they never had any faith in me to begin with. So yeah, that's where I'm a week before classes start, with no registered classes. But I still gotta go, "CuZ aLl yOUr FrIEnD's aRE GoING" To any parent reading this, don't rush your kid with big decisions like this, it really fucks with their mental health. I know from experience. And one more thing, at the end of the day remember one thing. It's their future, not yours. You don't get the final say. But who am I to say anything, I'm just an 18-year-old brat trying to avoid getting disowned. `\(-_-)/`
I'm so sorry you're parents and family are forcing you to do something you don't want, even your siblings. Don't let them pressure you into going even though it might be hard. Stay strong because you have time, and time is not going anywhere.
@@Umais_Galaxy_In_Another_World Yeah, at a certain point the same day I wrote my venting paragraph. I went up to them and said fuck you I'm going to do this my own way. They were pissed and my relationship with them changed, but ultimately I'm satisfied. They also changed their tune a bit after I told them I got my first art commission for $120-$170 today. So I'm thriving now ig '\*u*/`
Thank you for this!! ❤️ My gap semester is coming to an end and I’ve learned a lot about myself! I am also so excited to start school in the Spring! - During my gap semester I realized how important education really is in today’s world. ❤️ And you’re so right, it’s all waiting for you!! Thank you again!
Ugh it's my Senior Year and this has been a decision I've been thinking of making. Like, I never really liked school but I'm good at school you know? Like I'm a great student but I truly feel like that's been the only thing to define me, and on this gap year I want to experience something under my own actions, decision-making and choice. I also have no idea what I want to major in, and imo college just exists to get you at the job you want to be and not much else. The only thing stopping me is because idk how I would apply to college after high school. Do I just mention the things I did on my gap year or are the achievements I had in school still valuable?
ahaa i painfully relate to you! ive graduated this July and had no vision to my future at all. looking back, i also realized that my whole year just passed with me as a "puppet" or a "doormat" to those around me (well its also my fault i didnt get help or realize it sooner). now as an "adult" for graduating high school, people just left me thinking that ive got it all under control. and this is where i painfully knew that all my life just wasted with chances i could potentially grow. it's frustrating, honestly. but i felt less alone with you commenting about this, thank you :D
Hey Katie!, I am watching this video as you speak and thank you for the knowledge. I graduated high school last week ago and i'm going to take a year off, but that doesn't mean i'm just going to chill. College is not really for me nor school, I have always been a big dreamers when it comes to following your dreams. And that is being a content creator on youtube and just doing what I love to do and get paid for it. I have been managing my money, investing, etc that school doesn't really teach us. I am going to give it a shot and see where that leads me, my family thinks that going to the air force are the only way to be successful and I disagreed on that. My mom is the only one that is supporting me and I am hoping for the best. Also I work full time now at my job. Thank you for the advices and tip! keep doing you :)
With COVID still around making most classes being through zoom. Zoom has made classes really draining and unengaging. Calculus classes went through one ear and out the other. And I don’t want a repeat of that in college next year.
I’m 25 and I graduated high school back in 2017 then started community college straight out of high school. I spent 4.5 years in community college, which is okay, and then I transferred to a four year college in fall 2022. I’ve had many ups and downs in my four year college as a transfer student, but I wasn’t one to give up. Now fast forward to now, I’m taking a gap year until I have my finances and mental health in order. Not going to lie, taking a gap year feels so fucking weird; however, I wish I would’ve done this a long time ago. It’s just better late than never.
I've cried alot thinking about what am i gonna major, and how people won't stop telling me what i should do :) but um yeah i love ur energy and ur video so im ✨ subscribing ✨
Thank you!! 🙂 this is such a stressful time of life, i feel for you. I cried so much my senior year of high school it was funny. Whatever you decide it will work out
I am a senior high school student, and just been graduated this month...i am feeling drained, burnt out and empty...so rn i decided to take a gap year to take rest from the stress ive been thru...im an introvert since elementary school and yeah i really dont have a really close or a long term relationship with my friends since i been changing school due to environment....i hope that this decision of mine would be worth it....
I graduated this year planning on going to college in the fall, I felt nervous about it of course but it didn't change my mind about going, but now that it's right around the corner I'm not as sure about going this year. I know what I want to major in, but I feel (I'm not sure how to put it exactly) "not ready/prepared." It just feels like I might be rushing into college too fast. Im worried about my mind changing so late in the game and am worried that it's too late to change my mind.
I’m a senior in high school and was mentally drained from high school and quarantine. I didn’t apply for college bc I was depressed and felt tired. So now I have a month left of school n idk what I’m gonna do. I also don’t know anything about college bc no one in my family went😐I wanna get my ba in art but theirs no schools for it really but out of state or out of my city. So I guess I’ll take community college then go out my city for college idk
It sounds like you really have a good plan here! This year has been so tough ❤️ i can’t imagine facing the pandemic as a senior in high school it’s such a stressful time just on its own. My heart goes out to you. I’m sure there are counselors at your local community college who would be happy to talk you through the transfer process and point you in the right direction If that’s what you choose. You seem to really know what you want and if you just keep moving forward you’ll get to where you want to go 💗
I'm about to graduate high school and my parents really don't want me to take a gap year, but I really want to, because like you said it'd be crazy to blow tens of thousands of dollars on something you're not even sure that you want yet. I'm just worried that a gap year may reflect negatively on my applications next year
Hi! Yeah I totally get the fear especially if you’ve already applied to schools. However I would actually say that taking a gap year would be a huge plus on any application! I think most schools look at it as a positive attribute! Also if you are unsure taking a couple classes at community college could be a good route because it won’t cost as much and you could later apply to technically be a “ transfer”. Also if you’ve already gotten into schools you can look into deferring even a semester to start! There are so many options to just take breather
My daughter has one more year of high school it’s scary as heck I will tell her about your channel! I have been talking to her about working and saving! Happy New Year!! 🎆🎊 🙏🏽
I was forced to take a gap year because of online schooling and cough cough. But I took a lot of time reflecting I know what I want to major in. I know that if I went to college I would have no idea what my major would have been
im currently taking a foundation program in uni (which is basically like pre-uni), and im actually only 15 right now and went into foundation right after grade 10 since i got accepted to the school. many of my classmates are like kinda older than me but other than that, things have been going okay so far with the last sem, but i still had multiple experiences which have drained me or jus stressed me out a lot. although there are some things that im grateful for like going into uni earlier and ig getting that 'uni-student experience', but i still have a lot of pressure and i feel like ive been neglecting my mental health quite a lot for these past few months. i had been thinking ab having a gap year since HS but i never rlly thought ab it until now. i would only be 16-17 when i finally get into uni, so i think it'd be best if i took a gap year so i can actually prepare myself mentally and feel more reassured ab going into uni
This video was incredible!! I graduated High School in 2017 so I would have graduated college here in 2021, but I never wanted to go. I wish I had known what a Gap Year was when I graduated but I didn't find out about them until much later, so I feel this video will be very helpful to people who will be graduating grade school in the near by future hopefully looking for advice other than immediately jumping into a career path. Life is too short to not be happy because you never know where you will be the next 5 years, so anyone reading this, please be sure to NOT TAKE LIFE FOR GRANTED. YOU MATTER!! Whatever big dream or life path you choose, TRUST IT!! YOU GOT THIS
It's almost the spring semester, and I'm a senior in highschool. I haven't sent any applications to any universities, I'm just lost and don't know what major I'm going to pursue.
Thank you, Katie!!! I’m so much happy to hear what I wanted. I’m 16 years old, and I started school a year earlier and for this reason i’m gonna graduate school this year. But also I really need a gap year i g. Because I stuck in two majors business and computer science but don’t know which to choose. Likewise I’m really confused about leaving my country in this early age, i’m not ready mentally and emotionally, and i need to take time to learn new thing like math learning math and being good at it is my dream axax. Well thanks again for your video, taking a risk at a young age is way more better than spending 4 years of your life working at a job that u don’t like or appreciate. Hope I will do good in my gap year, as you did I see you got accepted to Charleston college, really glad for you!!!! Hope i’ll also got acceptance from my dream colleges, to my favorite major. I’ll do all again finding new purposes of my life ohh, it kinda gives me that piece of freedom which I needed for a long time. See you, after my successful gap year! Hope you will be uploading videos🥹
I didn't know you could fall in love with a person after just 2 videos... Great stuff dude! How you don't have like hundered thousands subs is beyond me! These past 2 senior yrs of my high school have been so draining (Due to Corona and some personal issue in the family), pretty sure i am heading towards Depression if i don't take a break for my mental health. Thanks a ton again, i am like 95% sure abt taking a gap year cuz of your well-thought-out videos. Wish i had your positive energy!
@@katieblake It really has been. My school was always the worst n careless when it comes to education, if you can believe that! And that was before the pandemic, so online education was just fulfulling a formality to them. I have my eye on a greatuniversity in Turkey, applying with SATs scores. Which i sort of screwed up cuz of some personal reasons, so I finally decided to take a Gap year to just focus on my mental health amd maybe try to improve the score ( i am currently at 1300 in SAT). Your videos have helped me soo much in realizing just how much messed up my mental health is n how i am rushing into things for NO REASON AT ALL!! You should be proud of yourself for helping ppl through this tough time. PS. Sorry for writing an entire essay in the comments
i'm on a gap year right now and i'm still kind of adjusting because i don't really know what to do with myself. also, it still baffles me how much university costs in the US. I'm here worrying about having to pay for 2000€ in tuition and maybe 5000-6000€ in rent, whereas you're the ones that really have to pay insane amounts. I have such respect for everyone that is coping with that stress.
I am thinking to take gap year but my family is saying that i am wasting time and I have no reason to take gap year but I am mentally exhausted and I want to be financially independent
this is a really good video, I might being going into my 2nd year of college. I study biomedical science, I don't know why I'm doing it. It's not a good feeling, plus knowing it's a very restricted field. I might defer this year, I don't think college is for me. And yes I know people who have moved to Poland together, they study mecidine, I'm from Ireland so I could say yes it does happen.....haha
Hey thank you!! 🙂 it’s a tough decision when you’re right in the middle of things but taking a break can be an awesome moment to slow down the noise and think about your choices. That’s so funny about the Poland thing 😂 best of luck with your year ❤️🙌 thanks for watching!! :)
I want to take a gap year, but am afraid that my uni of choice won’t except me. I want to study abroad and already have a school picked out. I’m also not sure if I should still apply to my uni of choice right after my senior year or I should wait after the year. I’m so confused.
it’s so hard to make these choices. I have been so confused about literally every decision I have ever made. I think that’s just my permanent condition 😂 just focus on making the best of whatever path you end up on and it will work out 👍 just eliminate the timeline you think you should be on and focus on what you really want for your life ❤️
So I’ve been struggling a lot with depression lately and I still am. I am really burnt out because I live in a toxic household with my 5 siblings as the eldest and it’s really hard for me since I am basically their parent. My father left us and my mom seems to have a burn out as well and now I’m their mom. I am a fresh man in Highschool in Austria and school here is really tough much harder than in most countries. So I study hard and work all the time. I don’t have time for myself abd I’m struggling with an ED. And recently we’ve talked about gap years in school and I have to say that I wasn’t planning to have one when I first heard about those gap years. But now I feel like I need to find myself again anyway and I’m not fine and I don’t know who I am besides the fact that I’m a fresh man in high school. I’m lost and sad all the time so I think It would be good for me to take a break from education as soon as I graduate. To live away and out of my household as far as I can and not having to deal with their toxicity anymore
idk what to say but before I listen to this video I thought it's only me who think like this way but it's clearly now that it's not just me so I can improve to my family that lol I actually so confused in my country I'll be the only one who will do anything like that, maybe I'll be like different but idc I'll just do it Because it's the right thing for me to do Thank you so much for the amazing video
I want to take a year off I think but I really just don’t know what I would do with all that time. Of course I’m gonna work and save up for school but beyond that I don’t know what I’m gonna do, my friends won’t be pausing their lives just because I am. I have no idea if my friends that are staying local would even have the time in their schedule to hang out with me. Would I just be working and staying home with all my time?
@@saralola456 I ended up going straight into university, I’m from Canada so the expenses for school are cheap compared to American schools and there is good government support so I didn’t really need to take a year off for making money. As far as friends go, I was right that they didn’t have a lot of time to hang out, the times I was back in town all of them were busy so idk what I would have done on the year off except work. I made some really good friends that I wouldn’t have even met if I took the year off, but also I’m sure I could have made good friends in my year off or simply by starting a year later and meeting people the same way I did. At the end of the day, you just have to do what feels right, you’ll never know what could have been if you made different choices so it’s best not to think about it
@joshbrown9926 thank you so much for ur answer I appreciate it I'm just thinking about it cause my my scores are getting lower ( since I have no energy to study or to continue till bachelor ) ( ps this year if I graduation I'll have my associate degree) so the only thing that was scaring me is age
@@katieblake haha videos like this you have to. Also to answer your question about the UK I have heard it not be strange for people to meet up and live or travel with strangers. Another thing...if you’re serious about moving to Canada I am sooo down haha
@@ArrayRay_physio that’s truly wild I want to live in that world 😝 I would take you up on that Canada thing 👀But Americans are banned right now ☹️ I almost moved to Serbia in the fall but then two weeks later they banned Americans from traveling there 😂

Hey Katie, i am a senior in high school in this current year 2022. I also want to take a gap year but i don’t know WHEN to take it. Is it necessary to inform the college or university about my future gap year before completion of my 12th grade? If i didn’t informed them, can i still apply to universities? Will it affect my admission decision? Can i still inform them after completion of my 12th?😂 i am really sorry for these many doubts. I am sorry if you answered any of these and if i did not noticed any of these. Actually i am concerned about my future education.
i’m a uk student but i want to go to uni in america. i also want to take a gap year and i was wondering for the whole college application process, do you apply for college in the last year of school like usual then defer for your gap year or do you apply for college IN your gap year??
please help i want to take a gap year but im a senior and idk if i should apply to community college rn or after my gap year because i see many applying and im lost i am not sure of my plans yet
Hey guys if you enjoyed this video check out my latest on Gap Years. Its a bit of an update two years later!
th-cam.com/video/Vov727C1p0M/w-d-xo.html
I’m a senior in high school and before this year I never once even considered taking a gap year but as this school year ends I feel so mentally tired and I finally decided to take a year “off” and work and figure out who I am outside of a student. Since making that decision I feel like this huge cloud over my head has moved away! Also side note: I’m also from Maryland!!
Yes!! It’s seems like a scary choice at first but afterwards it just feels right! A year is not that long in the grand scheme of things. I want to take another one once the world opens up 😂 a do-over one could say
Omgg this is literally me
'life is emotionally draining' PREACH
😂
I'm a senior in high school and i am honestly not excited for college like all of my other friends are, I also feel drained, but I have a lot of motivation to work and put myself out there and try new things rather going straight into college. This video really helped my understand my perspective and decision a little more so thank you :))
Thanks for the kind words!! 💗 it was such a great decision for me. I’m wishing you just the best year ever next year! 😆
@@katieblake thank youuuu, you as well

i felt the exact same (except that my friends are also taking a gap year)! Does this mean you're also on a gap year like right now??
Related wayyy too much to the emotionally draining and existencial crises parts haha. I found that I mostly just procastinated deadlines until there was no other option for me than to take a gap year oops. Currently kinda stuck with a job I don't love and nowhere to go (which I was really hoping to) but I'll figure it out! This video really put some things into perspective for me so thank you

Ah oh my gosh!! That’s so fun!! :))))
Hi! I’m planning on taking a gap year and I’m looking to also move out of my home and I’m curious as to how you found your roommate?
can you explain that? like how did that happen LOL
Nana core
I feel the same way

over the past 5 days I think I've realized that I want to take a gap year for sure. I was always scared because I am old for my grade so when I graduate college I'd be really old. But honestly, who cares.
So true! I swear when you show up to college not a single person will care what age you are! It’s such a common worry though. Go for it!! 😁✨
I just graduated high school and was also thinking about taking a gap year because of financial and mental health problems, and this video seriously helped me to finally make my decision. Thank you so much for this!
you should do it, i took this decision recently and im so excited
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am definitely going to encourage my daughter to take a gap year. Here in the US we pressure kids to grow up so fast.
I feel like taking a gap year is so beneficial though to find yourself, heal physically, mentally, socially and emotionally, to focus on revision and overall, taking a gap year is amazing and so beneficial and travel/explore the world! Do the things you love! Go to places you love explore/do new things! Go/travel to New places! ❤️
I had to take a gap year too during COVID and I relate so much to this I even find myself debating whether I am meant to go to college.
It really makes you think! Thanks for watching! :)
Am I the only one who thinks she could make an insane Anna Kendrick impression? In a GOOD way I swear I'm not trying to insult her. She has a lot of energy and I love it.
This is the highest compliment I can’t 😂🙌
I'm the wise old man of the class, and I love it
Wow that’s incredible thanks for sharing! Thanks for watching :) it’s never too late to go to school 🙂
I’ve been considering a gap year but the pressure to keep going kept me from doing so, but thanks to this video I will definitely consider it if things feel worse.
i’m 18 and i’m gonna finish high school in a few months i’m planning to take a gap year and this was very helpful. thank you :)
Thank you!! :) it was such a great decision for me but definitely a tough one to make
Hi, im also from europe and probably will take a gap year before going to university.

So glad! Thanks for watching! :)
I have a day left🤣
I FONG KNKW EHAT TO DO IK SCATED😢
i just finished my first year of college in april after graduating high school in 2020 and before i start my 3 year course i feel like if i do go i won't be able to mentally do it. taking a break, working and saving up i feel would be the best thing for me, plus im super immature and not ready to move out for college lol
this video really helped, thank you so much katie
Thanks for watching ❤️😊!! It’s so hard to know what’s right when it doesn’t follow an exact plan.
Haha yes! I’m just really trying to live chaotically once this pandemic eases up 😂 and thank you! A break is really nice! Thanks for watching !! :)
But I still gotta go, "CuZ aLl yOUr FrIEnD's aRE GoING"
To any parent reading this, don't rush your kid with big decisions like this, it really fucks with their mental health.
So cool!! Thanks for sharing! 😁
With COVID still around making most classes being through zoom. Zoom has made classes really draining and unengaging. Calculus classes went through one ear and out the other. And I don’t want a repeat of that in college next year.

I’m taking a gap year on my 62nd birthday and catch up on 40 years of vacation time that I didn’t take.

I know that if I went to college I would have no idea what my major would have been
That’s awesome 👏 thanks for watching!!
I love your honesty ! Thank you for the green light❤
Thanks for watching!! :) go for it! 🙌
im currently taking a foundation program in uni (which is basically like pre-uni), and im actually only 15 right now and went into foundation right after grade 10 since i got accepted to the school. many of my classmates are like kinda older than me but other than that, things have been going okay so far with the last sem, but i still had multiple experiences which have drained me or jus stressed me out a lot. although there are some things that im grateful for like going into uni earlier and ig getting that 'uni-student experience', but i still have a lot of pressure and i feel like ive been neglecting my mental health quite a lot for these past few months. i had been thinking ab having a gap year since HS but i never rlly thought ab it until now. i would only be 16-17 when i finally get into uni, so i think it'd be best if i took a gap year so i can actually prepare myself mentally and feel more reassured ab going into uni
i just graduated high school about a month ago and i’m supposedly taking a gap year but idk what i’m doing man i’m so lost
i’m here with you, i lost in what i want to do that’s why i’m taking a gap year but i get so anxious when i think about the gap year being over
Yeah i was so lost too 😬 I think I still am ..but just own your choice and you’ll get a lot from it 🧡
What did you end up doing? Did you go back to college?
You get a prize if you find the typo 😂
Do we "probobly" get a prize? :P
@@BarbarianGod 😂
@Jeremiah Lorenzo Why are you literally in all of this dude’s answers in all videos? We know it’s a scam LOL.
Hey could we connect on IG ?
I haven't sent any applications to any universities, I'm just lost and don't know what major I'm going to pursue.
how is everything now?
You're awesome, thanks you so damn much for your thoughts! It really helped me now🤍
Thanks for watching!!! :)
Thank you so much!! 🥲 I’m wishing you the best 💗 i can’t imagine how hard online high school has been for you guys.
@@hassaanzafar4660 wow that amazing I’m so happy for you!! Thank you for all the kind words it really makes making these videos so worthwhile to me ❤️
Hahaha I totally get that “rush for no reason” 😂 I’m still rushing and I’m on a gap year! Sounds like your making awesome decision for your life ✨💗🙂
i'm on a gap year right now and i'm still kind of adjusting because i don't really know what to do with myself.
also, it still baffles me how much university costs in the US. I'm here worrying about having to pay for 2000€ in tuition and maybe 5000-6000€ in rent, whereas you're the ones that really have to pay insane amounts. I have such respect for everyone that is coping with that stress.
great vid I just started my gap year first year outa school and this was still hella insightful.
Thank you! Means a lot 🙏
This video really made me feel better, thank you for posting
So glad 🥲 thank you!! :))
The way she hyped me up! 🙌👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
😂
I am thinking to take gap year but my family is saying that i am wasting time and I have no reason to take gap year but I am mentally exhausted and I want to be financially independent
this genuinely helped me so much so thank you!!
I just had this conversation with my bestfriend today and i said the exact same thing..."so u telling me my future is in my own hands"😭😂
HA it’s really a funny joke 😂🥲
I love your sweater! It’s so cute! Big fan of your content :)
Thank you so much that’s so nice!! :)
I came across to your video randomly, I enjoyed and I love it make more of it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Your voice is beautiful❤️Thanks for sharing :)
Ah 😆 haha thank you! Thanks for watching :)
I want a gap year to get my sh*t together. Train, pray, eat sleep repeat. Maybe get some part time here and there
Thank you so much!! This has very much motivated me so thank youuuu
Thanks for the confirmation.. Good luck to you as well :)
Such an informative video, thanks for posting it!
Needed this. Thank you Katie. 😊
Very well made video. I wish I had this before I took my gap years!
Thank you!! 😊 thanks for watching :))
wow! Thank you! this helped me so much. you are amazing !!
Thanks for watching!! :)
"who cares? Cause apparently I don't" ICONIC. hahah
This was so helpful, thank you!!!
Hi, I'm Brazilian and your video inspired so much. Wish we could go to switzerland together, lol. Thanks for this
Thank you!! 💗😂
this is a really good video, I might being going into my 2nd year of college.
Love your content Katie
I'm not quite at my past school life yet but I'm from the UK and yeah I'd totally be down to move somewhere random with someone I have no friends :)
I’m telling ya join this fb group and you’ll find someone 😆💗 thanks for watching!!
I think that’s just my permanent condition 😂 just focus on making the best of whatever path you end up on and it will work out 👍 just eliminate the timeline you think you should be on and focus on what you really want for your life ❤️
I needed this ❤
So I’ve been struggling a lot with depression lately and I still am. To live away and out of my household as far as I can and not having to deal with their toxicity anymore
you mean Erectile Dysfunction? what age are you?
idk what to say but before I listen to this video I thought it's only me who think like this way but it's clearly now that it's not just me so I can improve to my family that lol
I actually so confused in my country I'll be the only one who will do anything like that, maybe I'll be like different but idc I'll just do it
Because it's the right thing for me to do
Thank you so much for the amazing video
I'm from the UK and I literally moved abroad for my gap year so yes we are all deranged slightly 🤣
What did you end up doing ?:3
@@saralola456 I ended up going straight into university, I’m from Canada so the expenses for school are cheap compared to American schools and there is good government support so I didn’t really need to take a year off for making money. As far as friends go, I was right that they didn’t have a lot of time to hang out, the times I was back in town all of them were busy so idk what I would have done on the year off except work. I made some really good friends that I wouldn’t have even met if I took the year off, but also I’m sure I could have made good friends in my year off or simply by starting a year later and meeting people the same way I did.
At the end of the day, you just have to do what feels right, you’ll never know what could have been if you made different choices so it’s best not to think about it
@@joshbrown9926 im sorry but did it take the year off or no?😭😭😭😭
@joshbrown9926 thank you so much for ur answer I appreciate it
I'm just thinking about it cause my my scores are getting lower ( since I have no energy to study or to continue till bachelor ) ( ps this year if I graduation I'll have my associate degree) so the only thing that was scaring me is age
Love this you’ve made some real points haha
Haha this is the first time I have made one of these gap year videos and took notes before hand 😂
@@katieblake haha videos like this you have to. Also to answer your question about the UK I have heard it not be strange for people to meet up and live or travel with strangers. Another thing...if you’re serious about moving to Canada I am sooo down haha
@@ArrayRay_physio that’s truly wild I want to live in that world 😝 I would take you up on that Canada thing 👀But Americans are banned right now ☹️ I almost moved to Serbia in the fall but then two weeks later they banned Americans from traveling there 😂
@@katieblake I am obsessed with Canada for some reason haha. I was meant to go last summer with my boyfriend but Rona is disrespectful. 💡oo I just came up with a random vid idea cheers haha. Do you think you get to do any travelling when things ease up? I really hope I can because I might not have much time over the next year or so.
@@ArrayRay_physio oh my gosh I’m obsessed with Canada too. I’ve been to Quebec and Montreal and they were both so amazing. And to your question about travel honestly I have no idea. I’m just trying to not get corona Until I can get the vaccine. Next year hopefully I’ll be in Scotland and I plan on traveling maybe that next summer? It’s all so up in the air. And omg give us that story time 😂
Love as always❤️💓💓💓💯💓
Good advice.
I am too in a gap year due to covid
U really were the green light for me tho
Haha it’s truly was a good decision 🙂✨
i’m a uk student but i want to go to uni in america. i also want to take a gap year and i was wondering for the whole college application process, do you apply for college in the last year of school like usual then defer for your gap year or do you apply for college IN your gap year??
You can definitely apply while your in your gap year! Just check application deadlines. Thanks for watching :)
How to compress a large PDF file for free or cheaply?
please help i want to take a gap year but im a senior and idk if i should apply to community college rn or after my gap year because i see many applying and im lost i am not sure of my plans yet
This is such a tough time! Don’t beat yourself up over not knowing! You’ll get to where you need to be ❤️ try out your options and see what fits
same same. i think discussing ur options w friends n family would greatly help you out. Think of your goals and how you’re feeling about school.
ah i just realized ur comment is from almost a year ago. what did u end up doing bc im in the same position 😅
Thank you alot
Is 4-5 months gap also considered as gap year?
What?
