my Maserati qp Is saying the same thing. engine failure. I pulled the dtc's and it gave me a 2 codes one for bank A and the other for bank B. camshaft actuator circuit open was both codes just one on passenger and other on drivers side
Hi dear i have maserati granturismo mc sportline 2015 460hp i have now problem whit system too lean at idle bank 1 and bank 2 do you know what the problem is the problem code is p2187 and p2189 can you help me
Master mechanic or not, this guy is incorrect. What he is holding is in fact a camshaft variator. The problems with these units are almost entirely confined to the post-07 wet sump Maserati automaticas. This is the model in the video. The problems with the Ferraris were primarily confined to the 360s and it involved fatique failure of the variator shaft, which was covered under a recall for those model-years. I have yet to see any F430s suffer from the same problem, which share the same F136 engine design. The dry-sump Maseratis can also have a similar problem however no re-machining of the caps is necessary as they already come equipped with the mod.
Hi, I have a strange fluttering tapping noise coming from my 2008 4.2 gt, most noticeable under 2k rpm with revs dropping? Being told it's the variable valve timing solenoids that's causing this, have you ever come across this? Any ideas would be appreciated
Yes, unfortunately that sounds like a wet-sump variator noise. Your timing variators are there to advance timing slightly during different RPMs to increase low-end torque. When you decelerate, your timing solenoids activate to accommodate the changing RPMs by moving oil into the variator and slightly changing the position of the intake camshaft. If you variator is failing, then it won't move or won't move enough either when you first start in the morning or during deceleration. You generally won't here it as often during acceleration because your oil pressure is high. On the '08, be sure you have the cam caps remachined (as described in the video) or verify that it has been done. What the man in the video is wrong about is his claim that the remachining "fixes" the issue. I have seen consecutive variator jobs performed on dealer-serviced vehicles.
Is vvt deletion possible? It is not safe for an engine to have it's torque focused on low or under 2,500 rpms. Lock it to 4,000 for takeoffs, passing and goes along with high oil pressure to support it. This may require software management. This is literally the achilles heel of the engine besides poor maintenence. These are getting more and more popular, and may not be under a warranty to worry about staying true to. Sounds like the commenters present can make this real, and profitable.
What kind of grease is used on those cam caps when re installing

Ali
Labor cost?
Correct me if I'm wrong but it's about 2k in parts plus 5k for labor at a dealership
