Thank you for giving us season 2! I was always so curious about what happened to these students! I'm so glad her dreams came true!!!
I think what makes a truly great dancer, particularly, is charisma - that elusive quality that is hard to define and impossible to acquire through just training - it takes courage besides the almost insane level of dedication to the art. First you have to learn all the rules - the technique, to perfection. Then you have to learn to break said rules in a way that brings and audience to its feet mid-performance. That is great dance!

I don’t know how but when I’m dancing I feel so free. It’s like I’m glued to the ground and flying at the same time. I’m not balanced in day to day life but when I’m doing pirouettes I feel like I could turn forever and never stop. It’s almost like the world goes blank and Its only me. It’s almost a religion to dance, for me atleast.

I'm so thankful you're making a season 2! I'm 15 and starting ballet this Friday at a teen ballet class - I'm doing it for recreational purposes, of course (I'm not crazy haha although some amazing dancers eg misty copeland started as teens so it's possible with hard-work and skill) and blogging it on my blog (thewisdomtoothblog.wordpress.com), and I just wanna say thanks for letting me remember why I love dance, even if it's not 24/7 professional like on this! Eeek so excited! haha
Good luck with your ballet class! I'm 16 and restarted ballet (recreationally) last year so same age as you! If you're anything like me it'll literally take like one class to become addicted to ballet, I literally love dancing so much now. You're gunna have so much fun, good luck! xx
I've started it and love it! The thing is, at first I thought i'd regret dropping it when I was younger (and a tomboy who hated ballet) but doing it recreationally is so relieving and more freeing than the people doing it in strictly ballet, plus I'm a different person now who has different tastes - we're blessed that we're able to pursue those things in our free time, so many can't or give up! anyway, I'm glad to hear we both love ballet, good luck to you too!

I'm 14 going to be 15 in august and i always wanted to do ballet. Im over weight and 5'5 but I've been trying to get into shape for years (since i was in 2nd grade). Ballet is something i always wanted to do, i have little experience from damce in school that i was in only for the 1 semester. I really wanted to do ballet but people said it's too late. I really want this. I really do, not as a professional thing, but as a serious hobby. It's a beautiful art form and i really need advice right now from someone who has been taking ballet or has knowledge about it. Please and thank you.
Savannah Torres I've been taking ballet a few years and I love it so much and wish I had been doing it longer! Anyway, make sure you stay focused in class, but don't compare your progress to anyone else's. Focus on making yourself better, and give it time. Also, eat lots of healthy carbs and proteins, because this will fuel your body properly while dancing!
Savannah Torres I am now 15 n i've been taking ballet lessons since I was 12, summers excluded. Until then, I was a tall and flabby, and i used to feel uncomfortable seeing my friends being skinny, all of the same height. But i loved ballet so i decided to start those lessons. My "mirthless" body trasfered in a year, i lost 8 kilos and i became thin but stronger than I had ever been. Ballet makes the most of my body structure and some people do not recognise me.. I a saying this to u mostly to point out the fact that I had the will to go on. Upon enrolling, i worked with girls at first younger , little but more skillful than me, but it did not dicourage me. I began a healthy lifestyle , did what i had to do in class and the 2nd year two other girls who also had started the one at12 and the other 10 moved to the most difficult class, but my teacher still dwas not that pleased with me. However, i worked and in the middle of the year I wore pointe shoes with the oldest class,too.I realy considered quitting.Now, those 2 girls are participating in a ballet competition despite their few years of dancing and i have evolved into a good dancer , in shape. I am shy and i do not make requests but , lowly and patiently i do my job!!! I love it! Also a friend of mine, now 14-15 who had never dancd in her life enrolled in my class, the eldest and most difficult, and she worked hard and now she's made so good a progress! I suggest that you do start lesson. Right now.
Let me just say - I'm 18 and I've only been dling ballet a year and a bit so it's NEVER too late tovstart! :-) I've already done *and passed* one exam so now I'm 3 weeks away from taking my grade 5 exam which is the exam we do before pointe work or character :-) so I'd say give it a go anyway :3
If you have a passion age doesn’t matter
I know people who started ballet at 30 so aim for the stars and do what you love🌠🌠🌠

It's never too late to start. It may take you longer to build up flexibility and strength, but most dance schools offer financial aid and/or scholarships.

I used o be a ballerina but i already stopped 3 years ago. But i miss dancing because thats im born with. My grandma wants to be a ballerina when she was young but her parents can't afford it because she has 16 siblings. So i want to make her dreams and my dreams come true.

Ballet is what made me who I am and most of the girls in school always say how I need to do this and be that to be a dancer but really I have bigger dreams than them and if I have a talent I should be proud of it (btw I am) .
Sooooo.......the lesson here is that if you aim for the stars you may one day be one.

Is it too late for me to become a professional? I'm almost 13 and I do as many ballet classes a week that I can because it's all my studio offers for my level. I do 4 1/2 hours a week but I want to do more. I am on pointe and I really do excel at it for just starting. My grand jetes are flat, I can do a double pirouette on both legs and I have great feet and turnout. The thing is I'm not super flexible even though I stretch and home everyday and I am not fat but I am bigger than the average kid. And I started ballet when I was 9. Is it too late to think about a professional career?
No one can tell you that. Most professionals including myself starts at age 3/4. Theres a chance, but its gonna take a lot of time and energy. If your grand jetes are flat, you can’t be THAT unflexible, so you might have a shot. Your weight doesn’t define your dancing, but since the ballet world is very stricy I would loose a couple of pounds (Not more than a couple tho, please dont go overboard!!) it gives you a better chance to be accepted into a dance company since ballet teachers often look at bodies after dance skills. Even if you don’t make it, you’ll always be a good ballerina so theres nothing to loose haha!

Too bad Balanchine training is so insular, resulting in restrictions for these dancers as they seek wider careers. Strange how these young dancers become fixated on NYCB and SAB. Do their parents not have the wider knowledge? Do they know that NYCB is not among the top ballet companies in the world? Do they know that the training might be an impediment for those who don't make to to NYCB?

I always wondered why they acted like the kids on dance moms was anything compared to these people and I thought it was so unfair when they would give one of the girls on dance moms a scholarship to one of the prestigious dance schools in new York KNOWING those girls had no plans to follow through..and there was girls who tried for that same scholarship who would have used it and went to the school..but they didn't get it because they weren't on a reality show.....none of those girls did anything with dance once the show was over.
