  • Worlds 2007 was a milestone competition, being held 25 years after the first world championship, and having a record number of competitors. But it wasn't the biggest thing that would happen then...

    • @BoomerangPlays
      @BoomerangPlays 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@chriskunce3331 Yeah, I did too. I wanted to resticker my old V-Cubes and I came back to cubing to find out that Cubesmith didn't exist. Their tiles were great, and stickers were wonderful too.

    • @chriskunce3331
      @chriskunce3331 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BoomerangPlays Funny you mention vcubes. I specifically was looking for stickers for my vcube 7 from cubesmith. Even emailed the cubicle and SCS to see if they’d make them. Then I watched the video on The rise and fall of vcube and finally found out why nobody wanted anything to do with the vcube anymore. Still, my v7 is kind of sentimental and it’d be nice to replace those horrible stock stickers.

    • @BoomerangPlays
      @BoomerangPlays 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chriskunce3331 Yeah, I went online on reddit and stuff looking for any replacements. Apparantly, Oliver's stickers had some, but I never looked into it. I dont solve it enough to go through the effort of restickering it unless I know what I'm getting is gonna last the life of the puzzle. If you're still looking, though, I'd check it out.

    • @chriskunce3331
      @chriskunce3331 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      BoomerangPlays LOL great minds.... I almost ordered a set from Oliver’s. I even emailed Cameron at SCS to see if Oliver’s quality was worth it. But while I was debating if I wanted to attempt the resticker or not, I bought a stickerless MF8 and realized how much better the newer cubes are and decided to put the money toward newer cubes instead of resurrecting my old ones. The vcube7 is back in the box along with a bunch of old Mefftert’s hard to turn 4x4 and 5x5s

    I don't think I agree with your assessments that FMC and Blind are harder to judge. FMC competitors are only allowed a fairly restricted set of materials at their solving station, and this is easy to verify before the attempt begins. Also, having done FMC (not in comp yet, but I'm working on it), the notion of peeking at someone else's solution to try to gain some advantage is... kind of ludicrous. FMC just doesn't work that way. Also, blind is not difficult to judge. It can be tedious, but it's not difficult. The first thing I ever judged, as it happens, was blind (at Mental Breakdown summer 2017). At that time, I'd never judged, never competed, but had seen plenty of judging from taking my kid to comps. If you've seen ordinary judging (which pretty much everybody has) and the delegate takes fifteen seconds to explain the additional strictures for blind, it's really no big deal.
    I can't comment on what blind and FMC judging was like in '07, but at least now I don't think that judging difficulty would be factor in making any kind of cheating easier.

    Just found this; I remembered his name from the press back when he was winning events, but I did not know that he was later found cheating. Maybe I do not understand correctly what is written in the report section 5 but one thing does not add up to me. It seems to state that he intended to join the Benelux Open 2008 and prove his innocence but backed off at the point when he was informed that he will be tested before the competition. What I don't get here if he was ready to enter the competition, after the antecedents with presumably 17 volumes of Encyclopedia Britannica being held between his face and the cube and 300 phone cameras recording every move he makes 1. what was WCA's point with a preliminary test on the first place 2. why he backed off after hearing this? • @Ejohrik
      @Ejohrik 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He simply looked at the cube from time to time through the gap at the bottom of the blindfold.
      In short, it was shown in reconstructions that he had solved the cube in a way which moved a lot of pieces around which would require several inspections unless he could somehow track all those pieces (which no one can at that speed).
      This was further supported with at test at a competition where, for the first time ever, the judge of his blindsolves suddenly stuck a piece of A4 paper between Kuti's eyes and the cube as the solve started. Kuti had never failed a blindfolded attempt before, but somehow failed all three attempts at that competition, with the cube being nowhere near to being solved.
