This is one of the reviews that I watched before deciding to get the m100 (it was this or a decent point and shoot) and it was the best decision ever. I initially wanted to "vlog" but then I realized what the m100 is capable of so now I make short silent films on my channel. Artsy and a bit cinematic. This camera is a beast for the price point. I went with the M50 kit for $590. Update: I bought the light multiplying adapter for my EF lenses. Holy crap it's amazing. I actually like using this more than my 5D Mark IV now.
idk if you're still using this - but I found SmallRig's cage offering to be pretty useful - keeps access to the battery, SD card, adds a ton of other accessory mount points, & a good side grip! + on sale rn
Thanks for the great video. I just ordered this camera bundled with the 22mm f2. It was a very reasonable price and I think it will be fine for my needs. I had the canon t3i for years but found my iPhone to be good enough and more convenient. Looking forward to using a dedicated camera again.

I just decided to get this camera right now. At less than 400 $ canadian it is not bad. The current M200 is about 670$ so the decision was pretty easy.

You’re welcome. Appreciate you watching. I’ve heard good things about the M6. Just keep in mind that the mirrorless cameras only have a few lenses. You’ll have to buy an adapter to use EF & EF-S lenses. If you don’t want to do that, I’d recommend checking out the SL2. I have a few videos on it as well.
I would use what you already have. With the XR, you can buy vlogging accessories and also plug in a mic using an adapter. The XR also has some pretty stable footage.
You're welcome! I don't have much experience with the a6000, but the M100 is great for a beginner. See if you can find some comparisons between the two and see which one fits your needs better.

I’ve never used a M6, but if you don’t need an external mic or hotshoe, then save and go with the M100. Both don’t have in body stabilization but you can enable digital stabilization. For stable video, use a tripod or gimbal.
Good enough review, the size is why I bought this camera, I got fed up carrying my 600d with my huge tokina 11- 16mm! This camera is amazingly small for apsc sized sensor, even the kit 15- 45mm lens is useful.

Great video! I already own the Canon m50 which I love. Do you think it would make sense to buy the m100 for it's portability and to be used with the kit lens and save the m50 for use with my other Canon lenses? Just got this camera as a replacement for my old pentax xg-1 wich I got back in 2014 and well for the money I had pay I'm surprised for it quality especially the video quality and the fact that it has the sd card along with all the ports in one side is verry convenient because I don't have to take down the camera from the tripod all the time plus the battery seems to last some time I had recorded since I get it was half way discharged I had recorded roughly 25minute with it then was flat . One one more thing I didn't take in consideration was that I can not use it while it charging. But for the price I'm happy for what I get .

No worries. I no longer have the M100 but I do think there is an assistive grid. In the video record mode, hit the menu button>the wrench>find shooting display info(may be on the 4th tab)>grid display. Let me know if that works and if that is what you were looking for.
How would you compare the stills to the M50? I ask because I recently sold my M50 after buying an R series camera. Now I kind of regret because the M50 would have been a great secondary. I was thinking of picking up the M100 to kind of make up for my dumb decision. I only shoot stills so what do you think? Your opinion would be super helpful. Thanks!
I no longer have the camera.The M50 may have more af points, higher frame rate and eye tracking , but I still think you can get good shots with the M100.
canon 77d with 18-135 (digital Movie IS + lens IS) is actually good for handheld stationary video shots. Acceptable for walking scenes if u choose enhanced mode. Im thinking of getting m50 for portability but it doesnt seem to be an upgrade for low light performance over sl2, isnt it? As far as inknow, sl2 has the same sensor as 77d/t7i/80d
Really great video. I love the M50 and even now 2 years later really want a M100 as a 2nd camera and for photos etc. Great video again and never stop. 😊🎬👍🏻
Good decision! The camera is stunning photo performer! I owned M (M1, first in series) for 5 years and this is a class better in everything. When I shoot RAW and put it on a screen in 1:1, details, colors, light... all is superb. With M I had to "fix" almost every image in Lightroom and with M100 I mostly keep JPG's (I shoot both RAW and JPG just in case). By the price, at least what I paid it for, this is the absolute best choice. Pay attention to buy it with 15-45 lens, that is (so far and by my opinion) best prime lens for this camera. It is plastic, very light, but stunning performer lens (I have 18-55 and 22 F/2)
Thankyou for the honest review. I've been looking at various options but this has decided me to buy a Panasonic LX10. The image quality is a little better on the M100 but the overall size of the camera is a priority. The other downsides made up my mind. Cheers!
You’re welcome. Depends on your needs. I would go with the iPhone. You could get pretty decent stabilization and you can purchase an adapter so that you can plug in a mic.

The EOS-M line doesn’t have many native lenses. However, if you have the adapter, you can check out some EF & EF-S zoom lenses. I don’t own any zoom lenses except for the kit lens. Do a search on TH-cam and find out what will work best for you.
Hello, How is the HDMI output on this camera? Is it a "clean" FullHD output (with no UI)? I wonder is it's possible to capture the HDMI output with something like an Avermedia USB device. Thank you for your honest feedback.

You can record for 30 minutes at a time if you are not shooting in 60fps. I’d recommend shooting in the 30fps. I think this is a great starter camera for you but if you have more room in your budget .....go for the Canon SL2. It has a mic input so you won’t have to sync your audio in post. I just purchased this camera. It came with the canon face jacket. I realised like u said it only records for 10mins at 60fps. Does it record longer on less than 60fps? This is my first "proper" camera I use it mainly for recording videos but it's annoying having to get up every 10mins to continue recording. Did u do any of the hacks for other cameras to record longer on this model or na?
It records in 24fps and 30fps for 30 minutes. I’ve never used any hacks since I usually record in 24fps or 30fps and I’m fine with the 30 minute timeframe.

Already own an XR. Yes only vlogging.

Use the lens or zoom in your editing software.

This camera doesn't have a mic jack. Whatever mic you use you would have to sync the audio in your editing software.

Besides the kit lens, I have only used the 22mm so far, and I love it.
m100 has the limitation recording time in 1080p 60fps ,
how about 1080p 30fps is this setting has a limitation recording time too ?
In 30fps ...you get the usual 30 minutes.

I think the M50 and the SL2 are pretty close in low light performance.

I haven’t used the 3000D. The canon M100 is a great beginner camera for both video and pics. If you need a microphone jack, I’d go with the Canon M50.

Good decision! The camera is stunning photo performer! I owned M (M1, first in series) for 5 years and this is a class better in everything. When I shoot RAW and put it on a screen in 1:1, details, colors, light... all is superb. With M I had to "fix" almost every image in Lightroom and with M100 I mostly keep JPG's (I shoot both RAW and JPG just in case).
By the price, at least what I paid it for, this is the absolute best choice. Pay attention to buy it with 15-45 lens, that is (so far and by my opinion) best prime lens for this camera. It is plastic, very light, but stunning performer lens (I have 18-55 and 22 F/2)
Thankyou for the honest review. I've been looking at various options but this has decided me to buy a Panasonic LX10. The image quality is a little better on the M100 but the overall size of the camera is a priority. The other downsides made up my mind. Cheers!

You’re welcome. Depends on your needs. I would go with the iPhone. You could get pretty decent stabilization and you can purchase an adapter so that you can plug in a mic.

The EOS-M line doesn’t have many native lenses. However, if you have the adapter, you can check out some EF & EF-S zoom lenses. I don’t own any zoom lenses except for the kit lens. Do a search on TH-cam and find out what will work best for you.

It's perfect for a beginner just make sure that you get the adapter so that you can have more lens options.

You can record for 30 minutes at a time if you are not shooting in 60fps. I’d recommend shooting in the 30fps. I think this is a great starter camera for you but if you have more room in your budget .....go for the Canon SL2. It has a mic input so you won’t have to sync your audio in post. I just purchased this camera. It came with the canon face jacket. I realised like u said it only records for 10mins at 60fps. Does it record longer on less than 60fps? This is my first "proper" camera I use it mainly for recording videos but it's annoying having to get up every 10mins to continue recording. Did u do any of the hacks for other cameras to record longer on this model or na?
It records in 24fps and 30fps for 30 minutes. I’ve never used any hacks since I usually record in 24fps or 30fps and I’m fine with the 30 minute timeframe.

You're welcome. The M6 has a mic and isn't much more than the M100. The M50 is also a good choice if you have the budget for it.

You can record the audio separately and sync it in post. There are videos on TH-cam that teach you how to do this.
