I have this camera and I use it for photography. It’s my first real-deal canon camera and if I’m being honest it’s a great beginner camera. It’s so simple to use and the size makes it even better. Also there’s an app you can use to download your photos to your phone because it’s a WiFi camera. From the app you can also control the camera and take photos from your phone. Say you’re taking a family photo, you can flip up the touch screen and connect your phone and see everything happening right on your phone and take the photo right there! I love this camera and being a beginner I haven’t had any issues with it at all.

I think the 10 minutes limit of video recording is just a minor drawback if you use it mostly for recording b-roll or if you get used to it. Anyway, an interesting competitor to the a5100. And I'm sure the photo quality is really good as well. Most modern cameras nowadays are quite good at that, even entry-level ones.
I've got an awesome camera, the GX9, with no mic input, so I don't use if for vlogging. Of course this one has dual pixel and flip up, but, if I got one it would probably be the M50 which has all the goodies, and has come down in price.
Just recently bought the GX9 as a cheaper photography alternative to my GH5 that I use for film gigs and so far have been loving it! It has a few compromises but takes beautiful images and surprisingly great video. Can't hold a candle to the GH5 but may make for a nice little b-cam!

Supports panasonics Cinelike D, which is a semi flat profile for grading and up to 60fps 1080p and 30fps 4k with a .4x crop sorry defs more of a 1080p machine. L

As well as taking videos well, I think that being able to shoot in raw also makes it great for photography. Canon seem to be the only brand where the cheap cameras can shoot in raw too.
2 questions: 1. Do you think the m100 will be better than the upcoming iphone for video? 2. If they take away the charging port, do you know of any good mics that connect via bluetooth like airpods do? Preferably something that has a mic jack you can hook other mics too
You do have a grip for the M100. The (face jacket) it comes in different colors, and in leather or plastic if it came with the camera it would only be black with no style options.

Yeah that would be awesome! But I’d be skeptical that the heat management system could last very long. If it has problems recording 1080p 60 for more then 10 minutes I’m not sure how long it could do 4K 🤷♂️

The price puts it in range of a G7 (which obviously the auto focus on this is better) and the Go Pro Hero 7. If the image quality on the Go Pro is as good as I think it is, I think it *may* actually be a better choice ironically.
Its about $50 cheaper then the G7 right now, but you'd have to balance the fact that the G7 has an audio in port. And I don't know if they gopro would be better, those tiny sensors dont really work as well indoors.

Honest question: Does anyone use the HDMI out on a camera with a flip screen? I understand them on action cameras for FPV drone flying but I highly doubt anyone would hook a mirrorless to their drone and fly with it, and as a "front facing monitor" is also pointless as the screen is already forward facing. I feel that port would be best suited to be changed for a 3.5mm mic jack that would be a great benefit to the camera, granted the audio from the camera is not bad but could be improved with the audio in. If a camera needs an external monitor then it should have a flip screen (either up or out) rather than needing to lug a screen, cable, battery pack, extra mounts, external audio device, and mic in order to get decent video and audio.

Dad, that's weird, me calling you Dad. Just a few minutes ago I ordered the Canon M100, why? I already have a good number of lenses for my Canon T6s, with an adapter I can use them on the M100. Having used the T6s for more than a year I am use to Canon's menu system, which I like. I shoot in M all the time, the M100 works the way I am use to working. I wanted a small camera that I can keep in my work truck all the time for taking video and photos. I wanted the flip up screen rather than the flip out screen. Touch screen was essential. I too sync audio in post, no big deal. 4K is foolishness. I do tend to shoot longer videos but I can set a timer, have a smoke, then restart the video. I wish it would shoot 20 minutes, well one has to make compromises. Thanks Dad. By the way, I paid $399.99 at Amazon.

The M100, as the M3 has a much less advanced and very slow auto focus. The only downside of the M100 is that there isn't a hotshoe. The is also the M10 (£295 new in the UK) which sits between the M100 and M3, or the M5 is now available cheaply secondhand on ebay. The M100 can also be found for £599 in the UK, and that is as a kit with the EF-M 15-45mm and the EF-F M 55-200 .... a real bargain. I have the M10, and use EF-M, EFs, EF and vintage lenses with it ..... I love it, but would buy an M50 or M5 if I had some spare money.

I think it depends if you prefer a dslr body or a dslm one. The SL2 is the lightest dslr I'm aware of, the body weights just about the same as an Sony a6300. That's not common for dslrs.

Could you give advice on what the best audio solution would be to record let's say decent speech outdoors while using this camera? Cause I saw a Zoom H4 recorder, but I take it that it records alot of background noise too since it's actually made for that, right? Or am I missing out on some info? I'm just looking for an "as handheld as possible" audio solution to just generate much better vocal audio, but having the background blended in gently would of course be even more perfect. Is this achievable with the zoom or? Also what other lenses would you recommend for this camera to have enough variety between wide, close fields of view and still have that depth of field in it?
I have the Previous model, the Canon M10. It doesn’t have a flip out screen but was going to get an external monitor. Anybody have that set up with a Ninja V?

That mostly depends on the lens. The lower the minimum F-stop, the larger you can set the aperture and the shallower your depth of field will be. Basically, shallow depth of field translates to a blurry background. The 15-55 kit lens that comes with the M100 goes down to F3.5, which isn't too bad. Depending on just how blurry you want the background to be, you could also look at lenses like the 22mm EF-M pancake lens, which goes all the way down to F2.0. A lower number means a larger aperture.

I kinda like my M100 and the camera audio is semi-decent. I find the autofocus is a little finicky; either it won't focus on what I tap on or it will focus on something completely different. And but touchscreen is so sensitive at times, it takes pictures from the touch of my shirt hitting the screen. I've done a couple videos with my M100, j'm still relatively satisfied with it considering g the cost.
I wish Canon would make more pancake lenses for their APSC mirrorless line. The one available is too wide for portraits, I think it's 22mm. I wish the Canon 40mm f2.8 pancake lens was compatible with it, but I'd have to get an adapter for it and it would make it too bulky for a pocket.
Hey i wld say go with the m100 just because you get more room to grow and and experment with different focal lenses when you have to with with make up tutorials sometimes you have got to go close on the on the product shots or faces so ts a learning and growing experience so eos m100 alll the way👌
The lack of the audio-in jack is a deal breaker for me. I don't want to spend time syncing audio in post. (I wish you had used the camera's built-in audio inside so I could hear the quality) I do like the other features, but for what I'm looking for, an audio-in jack is one of my top features. This comes really close (and it is impressive) but no cigar.
Here in Germany the M100 Kit was available for 250 Dollars (with Cashback), which was a steal really... I bought two, but I might not keep them even for this price. The camera body doesn‘t feel good in the hand, the stabilisation sucks and the native lens selection is poor. I think the A5100 is still a better choice.
I completely agree with this. For the price the SL2 is a much better value, with much more potential. I've had the SL2 for nine months, I'm 100% sure I picked the best value for the money with it.

Is this newer than the m50? It doesn’t seem better, but it’s the m100 and the newer models usually have higher numbers

thanks for info , you can record 1080p 60fps for just 10mins , but m100 can record 1080p 30fps in sd card capacity ?

I use the HDMI out on my GH5 all the time. I prefer using a monitor over the flip screen mainly when I'm farther away.

Remember the inside audio was recorded with a recorder 👍 but both are awesome cameras.

I'm just looking for an "as handheld as possible" audio solution to just generate much better vocal audio, but having the background blended in gently would of course be even more perfect. Is this achievable with the zoom or?
Also what other lenses would you recommend for this camera to have enough variety between wide, close fields of view and still have that depth of field in it?

That mostly depends on the lens. The lower the minimum F-stop, the larger you can set the aperture and the shallower your depth of field will be. Basically, shallow depth of field translates to a blurry background. The 15-55 kit lens that comes with the M100 goes down to F3.5, which isn't too bad. Depending on just how blurry you want the background to be, you could also look at lenses like the 22mm EF-M pancake lens, which goes all the way down to F2.0. A lower number means a larger aperture.

I kinda like my M100 and the camera audio is semi-decent. I find the autofocus is a little finicky; either it won't focus on what I tap on or it will focus on something completely different. And but touchscreen is so sensitive at times, it takes pictures from the touch of my shirt hitting the screen. I've done a couple videos with my M100, j'm still relatively satisfied with it considering g the cost.
How do you set up your external mic with it?
The Canon EOS M6 can be found used for under $500. At least in my case it was. Far superior to the M100 in my opinion. It's got the mic input too.

I wish Canon would make more pancake lenses for their APSC mirrorless line. The one available is too wide for portraits, I think it's 22mm. I wish the Canon 40mm f2.8 pancake lens was compatible with it, but I'd have to get an adapter for it and it would make it too bulky for a pocket.

Hey i wld say go with the m100 just because you get more room to grow and and experment with different focal lenses when you have to with with make up tutorials sometimes you have got to go close on the on the product shots or faces so ts a learning and growing experience so eos m100 alll the way👌
The lack of the audio-in jack is a deal breaker for me. I don't want to spend time syncing audio in post. (I wish you had used the camera's built-in audio inside so I could hear the quality) I do like the other features, but for what I'm looking for, an audio-in jack is one of my top features. This comes really close (and it is impressive) but no cigar.
No video stabilization my iPhone 7plus even had it. Unfortunately that’s a deal breaker for me... too shaky and makes me nauseous

Here in Germany the M100 Kit was available for 250 Dollars (with Cashback), which was a steal really... I bought two, but I might not keep them even for this price. The camera body doesn‘t feel good in the hand, the stabilisation sucks and the native lens selection is poor. I think the A5100 is still a better choice.

I think SL2 has a better value proposition. Refurb/used costs around $450, basically a stripped out 80d
I completely agree with this. For the price the SL2 is a much better value, with much more potential. I've had the SL2 for nine months, I'm 100% sure I picked the best value for the money with it.
