  • Relentless Enemies comes from the Joubert's home base in Duba Plains (Botswana.) This relatively small island in the Okavango has the most extraordinary set of conditions where the buffalo herd of over 1,200 are confined by the floodwaters and rivers. This forces them to move around and through 3 lion territories. The film shows the buffalos’ strategies as they develop and how the lions adapt to each scenario.
    Narrated by Jeremy Irons

    You can watch the full length wildlife film on the national Geographic channel found online at Disney+

      @Jacob JK Best ever lion documentary. I watch it every winter a few times. They're will probably never be 6 lions more brutal in life. They even killed they're own offspring. Each one must've had atleast 20 kills

    I watched the 'Forgotten River' documentary by Beverly and Dereck Joubert many many years ago about the lions of Savuti and their battle for survival in the Savuti channel and I've been captivated ever since. I even bought two copies of the book 'Hunting with the moon' just in case I lost one ! The photography in that book is breath-taking.
    Beverley and Dereck have to be the worlds best cinematographers and authors/photographers on these magnificent animals.
    Just ordered Relentless Enemies and African Diary so really looking forward to those arriving.

  • @mamatembo24
    @mamatembo24 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I am very eager to see this. Although I found the Duba Plains lions quite disturbing (when I was there) - much more cub killing by females, not males (as is common) , and the dreaded (if strong and mythical) Silver Eye. I read somewhere that it was thought the females in this pride might have higher testosterone levels, perhaps form in-breeding (thus their more male-like behavior) . Dunno if it is true. I WILL WATCH EAGERLY!

    • @GreatPlains
      @GreatPlains  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Nancy, there was once a spate of cub killing, but that seems to have subsided over the past decade. I personally believe it was because one female (Silver Eye) lost her own cubs and then struggled with this emotionally. Yes lions have emotions. There is no indication at all of higher testosterone, nor would I ever consider it. Most females bred well and today all females breed well. And Silver eye has moved on to the 'great plains in the sky.' Male lions only kill cubs when they are not their own, and it is a function of 'cleansing' bloodlines from other, prior males, and stimulating breeding so they can spend their own energy looking after their own bloodline - Dereck Joubert, CEO Great Plains
