- In this video I show a sample lower body workout for quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves using the Ironmaster 2000 / IM 2000, the Super Bench Pro, the Leg Ext / Leg Curl attachment, the Leg Press Plate, the Calf Block, the Hyper Core attachment, and the xii : xi wedges.
This is the final video in a 3 Part Series. In Part 1, I showed a sample upper body pull workout. In Part 2, I showed a sample upper body push workout. I hope this series is helpful to anyone who is thinking about getting the IM 2000 or for anyone who has it and is looking for some exercise ideas.
My system of training is low volume, high intensity, and high frequency which is largely inspired by Dante Trudel’s DC Training Program.

All of the IM hacks are pretty cool. Machine really is versatile
@@mphillips2110 definitely agree.
Nice workout! Love all the single leg options that you cover. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching!
Starting off hot with lunges. Bro, you’re an absolute WARRIOR!!!!
lol! Appreciate you, Luke!
always good to see another video from HGHR..Good workout..I have legs today as well..Gotta spin on the bike still as well..slow start to my Monday..BUT im gonna get R done!! Thanks for the video!
Thanks BBD! Have a great workout!
LOVE TO SEE IT
Thanks so much!
That looks like a great version of lunges! And that leg curl looks good. Some plate-loading leg curl machines suck because the weight just falls into the contracted position.
This lunge variation is one of my favorite leg exercises now. I really like the leg ext / leg curl attachment. To me, it feels just as effective as much more expensive machines.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews Yes, the leg extention looks good too. Well designed. Years ago (1980s), my friend had a multi-station bench (brand was Golden Eagle, as in Tom Platz) that was great and way ahead of anything else back then, except the leg extension/curl used flat bench and the arms were @ a right angle. Almost no resistance at start of extentions and none at the end of leg curls.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews Body Solid has a well-designed combo plate-loading version, but it cost about a grand, so shows the value of the Ironmaster equipment.
@@briand5047 I’ve seen that one. It looks decent, but like you said, this just seems more cost effective.
Really wish you would demonstrate how to set up the peck deck accessorie or explain it step by step!
I have a full review for the Pec Deck.
that just seems to glide so smoothly, how often do you spray it with the silicone? One tip for legs, try a superset of leg extention to squat, your thighs will be pre fatigued from the isolation movement, then hammer them with a compound movement. Works for all body parts really, like lateral raises to shoulder press. Great growth stimulus.
It really is super smooth. At first, about once a month (IM’s recommendation). Now, about once every 6 months and it seems to maintain its smoothness with fewer applications.
Watching your exercise videos on the Im2000 now makes me question my initial thought that PT levergym is the better choice for me if i already have rack and barbells. I like that this can be overloaded way more due to 1:1 ratio vs levergym 2:1.
Although set up might be more cumbersome with IM the IM does have much better lower body exercise functionality whereas the levergym i think i would mainly do upper body stuff.
I am interested to know how well the leg press attachment works vs an actual leg press machine vs the PT leg press attachment
I am also wondering about IM hypercore attachment. Have you found this can replace your PT hyper backextension ab ghd machine from a hypertension perspective? That powertec piece is also something I’ve been eyeing
Also, do you know if. IM and PT do significant Black Friday sales? Promised my wife i won’t buy any gym equipment until then!
Thank you for taking the time to answer. Your engagement with your viewers has generated so much useful information and discussion!
Thank you! I am not the best person to ask about the IM Leg Press attachment. I can’t do the vertical leg press exercise, so I only use the plate for calf raises.
I think both are great for training legs. However, I use squat wedges no matter which machine I am using.
I have put 6 45s+ a little extra on the Levergym’s pulley system and that’s all I will ever need.
I have a review for the Hyper Core. For me, it does not replace the Powertec Hyper Crunch…but for the 45 degree hyper extension, it’s not bad at all; I am just used to a platform for my feet.
IM and Powertec just got done with 10% off site wide. That’s usually as good as it gets for Black Friday.
How are hip thrusts, in terms of ROM?
And how about step up exercise? Are you able to do that going up on a standard bench?
@@lorenzosmerilli7276 from what I remember, pretty good. I think I show those exercises in greater detail in my video for the Ab Mat Hip Thrust Pad and my IM 2000 Hacks video. A standard bench should work fine.
If I downsized my setup I would consider the whole IM setup. The footprint and options seem endless.
I love it! I just sold more than 1/2 of my equipment, and I kept most of the Ironmaster stuff.
Is the wedge not wiggling around when you use it?
No. They’re very secure. My back foot is sliding bc I probably have silicone spray on my shoes and on the frame of the machine.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews thank you for fast reply. Will buy one in Amazon.
@@oliverramos5808 glad to help.
In terms of ease of use, comfort, muscle activation etc, do you feel that leg extensions / ham curls on the Titan seated leg extension / curl machine is a big step up from the IM bench with attachment?
If you connect the Titan Seated Leg Curl / Leg Ext to a cable machine, yes. Simply plate loaded, it’s close. The Titan lacks tension in the beginning of both exercises if used as it comes from the manufacturer. If I could only have one for only leg ext and leg curl, I’d take the Titan, but of course, the Ironmaster is incredibly versatile beyond Leg Ext and Leg Curl.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews interesting - many thanks! A channel called “Warzone Fitness” has a review of the Titan seated with an interesting solution to achieving load at the start of the ROM - would be interested in your take on that! th-cam.com/video/Lg5nf5d4xLU/w-d-xo.html (relevant section starts at about 4 mins in)
@@robcoombes4549 I’ve seen that. It looks like a good option…my only concern would be breaking the pull pin. Another option is to put plates on the stopper post (I took mine off) to change the starting position of the ankle pad.
Did you remove the flat cross bar that is at the bottom of the IM2000, which would be on the floor directly underneath the bar. If so, why? I don't like it personally, as my feet do not grip it well. Does removing it effect the stability of the machine?
I did. Mainly so I can roll the bench in and out of the IM 2000 more easily. Also, the crossbar got in the way of some foot positions. At this point, it does not appear to effect the machine’s stability.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews Thank you for your reply. I have been having issues with obtaining good traction on the leg press plate when I do leg presses. It is too smooth and my feet constantly slide off and I'm constantly having to reposition them every few reps. Has this been an issue for you? Any suggestions on how to remedy this? I am thinking of finding some material that has a grip to it and adhering it to the leg press plate with an adhesive.
@@mattthomas2573 could be your shoes. I have not had that issue. Grip tape would be an easy and inexpensive option. I have some on my 2x4 calf block that has lasted over 3 years.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews Thank you!
@@mattthomas2573 glad to help. I was also thinking if you have used silicone spray and maybe gotten some of that on the footplate it would make the surface very slippery.
I noticed your IM2000 doesn't have that thin bottom cross member that sits on the floor. It attaches on the inside where you band pegs attach. I didn't see any of your unboxing reviews on the unit, since I already had one. Did you leave that piece off? If so do you notice any side wobble at all? I'd be inclined to get rid of mine, my heel are on it when doing squats and my Titan short utility bench doesn't sit evenly on the floor when I use it for any seated pressing movements. I was thinking about ordering some wedges but I'm afraid they'd slip if they had to come in contact with that cross piece. Also one of my favorite let exercises is cable/Brignole squats. I bought the Spud, Inc. Deluxe Machine Cable Attachment Handles (Single D Handles) and attach them to the lower pulley and really like the movement. No spinal loading and I really feel it in my quads.
Initially, I attached the cross bar, but like you’re saying, I didn’t like standing on it and it’s a speed bump when rolling the bench into the IM 2000. I have not noticed a decrease in the stability of the machine. If you’re doing 800 pound leg presses on the IM 2000, it may be more important to leave it on.
I’ve tried the leg exercise you’re talking about and it bothers my knees. I may give it another try at some point. Thanks.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews Thanks for the feedback. It's good to know removing that bar doesn't seem to cause any stability issues. I may try removing it and go ahead and order the XII XI wedges. LOL, I do the cable squats because the don't bother my knees, but everyone is built differently. I concentrate on keeping my chest out and leaning back a little more. Aside from bad knees my issue is I tore my left bicep several years ago and holding heavier weights at full arm extension still scare me. I use wraps to try to disengage my grip as much as possible but it's always there in the back of my mind.
@@jimcummins975 Have you tried Hatfield Squats? You would need a Safety Squat Bar.
The xii:xi wedges are fantastic. The helped me really enjoy squatting again.
Hey HGHR, is/was this setup on the 2nd floor of your house? Was wondering if it was safe to do so cause IM2000 alone weighs 275lbs.
It’s on the main floor with a crawl space below. It is a decent amount of weight on the floor, but I tried to position it close to the walls. This machine is no longer in that room, but there isn’t any indication I caused any damage.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews Gotcha thanks. How much weight did you have on the weight horns during that time?
@@RonMexico527 I think during the entire time the machine was in that room, exactly what is on the storage posts in this video.
I've thought about buying the IM leg ext/curl attachment for my Superbench Pro, but I'm very tall and concerned it might not fit me. Any thoughts?
Also, nicely made video :)
Thank you! In order to attach the leg extension, The Super Bench Pro must be adjusted to an incline which puts 2 feet between the floor and the end of the bench. As a result, the leg extension sits higher off the floor than most leg extension attachments from other brands. I can’t guarantee it will fit you, but it’s likely it will.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviewsThat sounds promising. Thanks for the reply!

Came here for the calves! So hard to hit calves in home gym!
Hopefully this video will give you a couple ideas. I can’t say enough good things about the Ironmaster Calf Block.
If no other option, single-legged db calf raise on bottom step on a stairway is great.
